I would imagine they set up pages on a table or worktop, set the camera on a tripod on the same table and aim it directly down at the page. Thats the way I'd do it.
You would think it'd be that easy but it isn't. I looked back at my old painting vids and even they were at an angle. Short of someone holding the camera I can't figure it out.
Ive set up the video camera in the past with a gorillapod hooked onto the shelf thats about five feet above my desk., the camera is looking directly down at the page (zoomed-in to fit) and because its upside down, your head isnt getting in the way. Just flip the upside-down recorded image in post production. et voila. but it just depends on the equipent and situation you have for yourself though.
Yeah I have to draw at an angle on my table so the flip thing didn't work well. I have a rig set up in my head but I'm thinking cheap clip on web cam is the way to go.
What kind of pencil are you using in this video?
I myself am writing and illustrating my own graphic novel and was just curious as to what kind of tools you use.
