  • Thank you! Nice video - and I liked the use of alpha channel to select the sky.

  • Nice, almost the same tools used as in PhotoShop...also are you a boy or a girl??? I can't decide from hearing your voice :D:D:D:D

  • @BurpAtTheMoon Yes, GIMP and Photoshop are very alike.

I'm a woman. But thanks for thinking I'm so young. ;-)

  • @GIMPtricks tehehehehe :D

  • it looks like a video game on the after image

  • @MissSteph213 2.6 with a theme. See my FAQ on my channel. :)

  • Nice videos. Could you please tell me where you got the nice BLACK theme for Gimp? I loaded a few GTK I found on the net and it's ugly. Awaiting your replies. Thanks

  • @dreamchaserJ The theme is clearlooks human dark. But it's on windows (see the FAQ on my channel.) It's originally a linux theme I think.

  • @GIMPtricks Yes, I got it! Thanks a lot..

  • u could just use a gradient for the sky...

  • Your vids are truly impressively 'form following function'... To the point, not to fast and results are spot on. Great job and very informative ~ thanks!

  • you are the bob ross of gimp!

  • How do you get the Layer Box to the Left?

  • @620emilymartin FAQ on my channel has a link to a video that tells you.

  • I just started using Gimp because I had an image in mind I wanted to add to and change a bit. Then I realized that it would take years to accomplish. Thanks so much for your tutorials. Now I think I might get done by Christmas ;-)

  • @viviblue1201 You're welcome. :)

  • I like your Accent! Cute! er..I mean Good tutorial Thanks!!! :D

  • "Fantastic!" I just did it. But I made some adjustments to make it my own. I also added my name at the bottom with a Friday the 13th font. With the font I put on a cool bronze outer glow with Script-Fu. "Thanks!". =D

  • @MattsMagic808 Cool.

  • I really like your dutch accent, some things sound very funny that way, anyway good tutorials.... i subbed, Thanks!

  • How did u get the thumb nail images so big

  • @eli0145

Next to the word layers, to the right is a little icon with an arrowhead. It says configure this tab when you hover over it, click on it and you can chose the preview size from there.

To make it look even bigger temporarily click and hold on a layer.

  • Nice job! Your tutorials are very helpful. I'm learning more and more about Gimp everyday because of them.

  • @turtle787 Thanks.

  • why not just open as layers on a new picture instead of opening new and copying it?

  • @fallout010

The video wouldn't be streamlined and clear to watch.

I want to show the steps. I want people to see what is happing in the layer dialog while I build up the image. Means I have to open as layer every time I add a new image as layer to avoid confusion. This means having to go through my files and look for the file every time I need to add a new image as layer. Viewers would have to wait while I search through my folders. The video would be a mess.

  • why are my pasted images coming out small? When i have them they are bigger

  • @spanky7829 Probably because the image you are pasting them in is much much larger.

  • Why do my pasted pic always come out really small?

  • @spanky7829 search one with a high resolution

  • wow... great tut.. drastic effects in just a few mouse clicks.

  • I really like that you showed your finished project early in the tutorial, I wish more authors would do this.

  • @garyjames48 Don't get why they don't? Most written tutorials show the end result at the start too.

  • heb je een mac of een pc

  • AWESOME TUTORIAL NICE GOOD JOB!

  • what schould i press to delete the background.

sorry my english is not very well : D

  • @MaariusTV the delete button on your keyboard.

    Or go to edit- clear.

  • @GIMPtricks thx

  • Nice tut :p are you dutch?

  • @TheMcCola yep

  • @GIMPtricks Cool XD ik ook :p jou tuts zijn wel leerrijk...

  • That was awesome!! What is your accent by the way? Is it netherlands? idk. I'm horrible with accent's lolz.

  • hi :) cool tutorial, can you make a tutorial on how to do an vintage effect using gimp! thank you :)

  • @blacknwhite27

I've got an old portrait effect tutorial. And in the filetrs menu is a filter for an old photo effect. It's under filters - decor - old photo.

  • I like this tutorial verymuch

  • or press ctrl+i

  • @123451520

I prefer Ctrl i too . On a mac the shortcuts are either not working or different so I tend to use menu mostly in my videos. Also because then it's visible what I'm doing.

  • Thank you for this video, it's because of you I learned how to work in GIMP. Even though i'm still a beginner.

  • which version is this???

  • @HSMFan4Eva123

    2.6.8

    See my FAQ video. :)

  • @GIMPtricks thanks. :)

  • MMmm Pretty cool =P

I've actually done this before on some other pics i had.

But it was different... No clouds or anything. I did it with a building but i added shadows through the windows... Kinda like a haunted mansion =P

    Anyways good tut. Keep going.

  • Very helpful- thank you.

  • great tutorial nice and easy to follow

  • Very interesting tutorial, thanks! However, I'm confused with the layer modes. You choose "grain merge", then "hue", but I have no idea what they mean. Could you make a tutorial on them? I think they are a mystery for beginners.

  • @jabuci

Just play with them. If you choose one you can quickly go through them with your arrow keys. With different picture you get different effects. I mostly just try them until I get the effect I'm after. And the more you use them the more you get a feel for what layer mode might get you the right effect.

  • You're videos are so detailed and awesome, I subbed right away

  • @Bjarminatorinn Thanks.

  • @GIMPtricks Welcome :)

  • Another fantastic tutorial! The effect is really cool and dramatic; it really adds style to the image. I think I might be able to re-create this in Pixelmator... Well done!

  • @PixelCreativity

Thanks. It's just curves and layer modes so this should definitely be possible in Pixelmator. :)
