@swedishhighball A safety is when a player on the team on offense gets tackled in their own endzone. Lets say an offensive team starts at their own 4-yard line, tries to run it but ends up getting tackled in their own endzone. Thats a safety and means the team on defense who tackled you down gets 2 points (and that team now gets the ball back too)

So, if you make 10 yards, you get another 4 plays? If that's the case, does that mean you will probably end up with yet another 4 plays during the next 4 plays? If that's the case, then surely the defense will never get to possess the ball?

@250Trojan If the teams are evenly matched its actually pretty difficult to gain 10 yards. If one team does march all the way down the field and score a touchdown. The team that surrendered the touchdown(the defensive team) gets to play offense and try to score on the next set of plays.

So 4 plays to make 10 yards, if you make 10 yards you get another 4 plays! You score a touchdown you get 6 points, if you kick the ball through the posts you get another point. If you havn't made 10 yards in 3 plays kicks the ball so when the opposition start their plays they're way back in their half of the field. GOT IT! Now i'm ready for some FOOTBALL!

I am European, I am a futbol fan, and completely understand that game. All I understood from American Football was what a touchdown was. My husband is american, and I really did not get into American Football, because I simply did not understand the game. My husband is a Vikings fan, so I went with them as my hometeam, since SD will be my homestate eventually (and they go with the Vikings/Twins). This really helped me understand the basics for now. Rugby is a free flowing sport, where you toss the ball around. But football is much harder hitting because there are individual plays. I myself have played football, and it is very physical. So i would suggest you play some actual contact football before you make yourself look like a fucking fool.
