Great doc, just checked it out on Netflix last week. What I don't understand is that the people that make these fillers and additives that go into our foods have to eat the same stuff, but I guess they have the money to afford the medical bills??
Hell, what pisses me off is that subsidized farms that manufacter corn is providing Mexico with most of it's corn supply, simply because it's cost 6 pesos to grow it there but only 4 do buy it from the United States! Now that includes shipping! WTF? Your hard earned tax dollars at work GIVING corn to Mexico instead of creating a much needed alternate fuel such as Ethanol
@jeangrey65 You understand that Ethanol is a bunch of horse shit right?
First off 1 gallon of normal gas is worth 1.25 gallons of ethanol, second of all most cars can't run it. Most importantly I'd much rather it be eaten then burned in an engine when we have so much better solutions to our energy problems in the United States.
Nuclear, Hydrogen. Hell even biodiesel is a more viable option.
@Roushfan5 So what your saying is that you'd rather our government give out product while also giving out tax dollars for farmers NOT to plant? We need jobs, and if it comes from corn fine, but both biodiesel and Eethanol are great alternative to petrolium products and have their own benefits. It's going to take money/power to make car dealers create these cars the oil comps don't want. Hydrogen being the later of the three all because of our dependence on oil. We need to be weened so to speak.
Solar: Solar panels are VERY toxic to produce. You might as well burn coal.
Wind: Wind isn't bad, but turbines/farms need a lot of acreage that could be used for farming, buildings, or a natural area like a forest.
Water: You mean hydroelectric? I live in the PNW where hydro where, even with one of the worlds largest rivers can only provide 60% of power to the states of Wa&Or. Damming up the rivers destroys the natural beauty of the river and the local salmon population. Not good.
we can use the oceans for hydroelectrics.we can also use the coastlines for wind power."we might as well burn coal" we're gonna burn coal anyway!so lets make solar panels now instead of waiting for coal to vanish completely.jesus man look at how much oil went into the gulf last year,do ya think makin a few solar panels outweighs that? look at how much shit is pumped into the atmosphere globaly for our own pleasures, regardless of the earths well being.
@Roushfan5 yea so lets do that now then before there is no more oil.... theres no such thing as a safe nuclear plant. we dont even know how to dispose of the waste. we just stick it in barrells and dump it in the fuckin sea. when those barrells rust you wont have your salmon or beautiful rivers anymore. cause they will all be fuckin dead and polluted.
Yeah in 3rd world countries thats what they do. Here the United States the government *was, I think so eco nutjob group stopped it* building a large multi billion dollar facility in the Nevada desert. Miles from anyone as safe as can be for all the nuclear waste.
The fact is people got scared over three mile island WHERE NOTHING FUCKING HAPPENED. And lost their shit. Nuclear is just as safe as any other power generation.
Before we throw the baby out with the bath water, commodity corn is not the same thing as the corn you can eat right off the cobb. So there's no need to stop buying fresh corn from farmers markets or growing it yourself. It's all the food additives that come from commodity corn that we should be avoiding. Don't eat anything you don't recognize in nature or that needs to be extracted and created in a lab.
While organic corn may be delicious. It is most difficult food to digest thus making it not a very healthy food for our bodies. It's SO cheap and only animals are fed corn in Europe.
@alrightypewriter "Don't eat anything you don't recognize in nature or that needs to be extracted and created in a lab." And starve to death. Organic farming is no safer then modern 21st century farming and organic farming can't feed the world population.
CHEMRISK - a research company hired by the Corn Refiners has recently taken down it's YouTube page.
The removal was in response to negative public perception resulting from the high-fructose corn syrup ad campaign. Apparently it has become a liability to defend the sweetener.

Wow, I liked the documentary, well done, but, but I feel that one is misled about the evils of corn in our food. Corn syrup is simply sugar, period. They simply found a cheaper sugar. There is no conspiracy It is simply our competitive market providing products that the consumers want. If people would start buying more healthy foods the industry would respond. Again there is NO CONSPIRACY, ANYONE CAN EAT WHATEVER THEY WANT TO!
Generally, I agree with you, but since the food industry gets huge subsidies from the government, their direction is also guided by that, and not just by the consumer.
Great movie! Actually if America used what is suppose to use to prepare it's food we would support other "people's" economy; therefore, helping them to put food in their own mouths. Hopefully, not the kind made of corn. Duganinja do your homework.
WHo gives a crap, if the excess food isn't redistributed to hungry people? Do we really have the balls to act angry at what's IN the huge amounts of food we eat daily when so many people have NOTHIIIING?
Except the excess corn often is shipped off to disadvantaged countries (as you can see Bush talking about in the trailer), where it pushes farmers out of business (leaving them with "NOTHIIIING") under the guise of charity. So yes, subsidized corn sucks, even by your standards.

@jeangrey65 Eethanol is a shit fuel sir.
-Engines don't like it unless they are made ESPICALLY for it
-It gives terrible power
-Reduces Gas milage.
-most people can't even get their hands on it.
-and consumes more energy then normal gas.

@cozzy1000 Or we could build a few highly safe nuclear power plants at a fraction of the land, price, and environmental impact.
I never compared solar panels to oil, but since you brought it up.
Solar panels need oil through their manufacturing process. So converting to solar we'd STILL need oil.
