  • great video. im looking into building my first AR and this is a huge help.

  • @StetsonXD Thanks! These things are easy to build. I love the AK rifles too but these are so customizable it omly logical for me to build them.

  • nice job

  • 6 people were too dumb to tell the thumbs up button was upside down...

  • Great video. Takes some of the scariness out of doing this myself. Thanks, for posting.

  • good video. im checking out your many others. nice system.

  • What complete receivers would you recommend for a build?

  • Thanks for the great vid.I learned alot.

  • Nice video very informative and helpful. I do have a question what is the type of tactical light you have in the video. I was looking for one to put on my M15A2 and I like the wa it looks...

  • @pcdcole It's a Fenix TK30..it's a bad ass light.

  • @ammosmith I bet it is I'm pretty sure that is the light I will be getting for my M15A4

  • @pcdcole I'll be doing a review on it soon along with some of the other accessories.

  • @ammosmith That would be nice. Not many people do that on here with the specs and what not. They get on here and are like here is my gun its mine and you cant have it.....

  • Nicely done video!!....Thank You!

  • So how much total was this build? Just counting the Lower and Upper kit. I believe I may build my first AR and if so, you can count on your video leading the way. lol

  • @LesPaul902 With optics about $1400

  • great video and very thorough...

    thanks !

  • Great video men, what was the total on the upper? was that the cheapest way to make it?

  • @LaloJulian total on the upper was about $425 with everything but the trimmings from Magpul.

  • Not sure if u mention it but did the proprietary tool come with the rail?

  • @nzafist25 Sorry..no it did not. It was like $60 but you can't do without it.

  • so you didn't use a torque wrench...did u just do it by feel?

  • @KillaGorilla13 The torque specs is a very wide range. Something like 24-60 pounds. I do it by sight and feel. I like the barrel nut tight. I have seen a lot of AR15's with lose barrel nuts at the range.

  • @ammosmith right right I'm with you 100%. I've seen other do that as well. Nice looking build man

  • @KillaGorilla13 Thanks! My next one I want to make a precision rifle. I'll get a Krieger barrel for it.

  • Just feels comfy watching videos like this..

  • wonderful video, thanks for taking the time to make it....just one question, how does it shoot?

  • @dumfart21 GREAT! Check out my Timney Trigger Test video. I will be doing more videos with this rifle but I'm sooo busy with work right now it's not funny.

  • Great video! Thank you.

  • What kind of action vise block are you using? great vid!

  • @TheRogueJackass I got these from Bushmaster.

  • Good video, I'm waiting on my new NEA flat top AR upper to start a build on my Armalite AR15A2 carbine. thanks for the video.

  • Is that a 10" rail?

  • @jorickgabmat Yes. it's the specter length so it covers the gas block on the carbine length barrel.

  • Wish you would list the makes of all the parts and tools you use. Great video

  • I have installed the Vortex on a few rifles...I like the Phantom because brush won't get jammed into the vents. I also like the SureFire one too.

  • are all barrel nuts the same?

  • @trooperx666 No. When you get a free float handguard like this one it's proprietary. If you're installing a milspec barrel and delta ring then yes they are the same.

  • @ammosmith, im planning on building an AR15 this summer so ive got an item list all written out, thanks for clearing that up for me haha

  • @trooperx666 Sure thing! The AR15 is the easiest rifle to build. It's all about having the right tools.

  • Whats the actual length of the YH handgaurd?

  • Do you have to put that end cap on?

  • @semiautoriflelover No...it's to keep dirt and other garbage from getting in thee. it gives a clean look to me...it's personal preference.

  • 19:40 "hello operator" ..

    :D

    nice build

  • Thumbs up if this video makes it easier for you to build your own AR15!

  • that is one killer looking rifle. i love the end cap for the rail system i dont know why but it just looks bitchin.

    ,jon

  • @lynette1953 The rifle weighs 7 pounds even without the light on it. It's a nice build and easy to do as well. Thanks for the kind words!

  • @ammosmith seemed easy enough, it just requires the right set of tool and there ya go :)

hey i cant wait to see some more of you goofin around with that ak!

    ,jon

  • @lynette1953 Oh we will be taking the AK and the AR on our trip. That won't be for a few more months yet though.

  • @ammosmith ah, well ya know ill be waitin' holdin ; my breath :)

  • Thanks for the video!

  • I love your channel but will ask that you read over a Military Manual or Technical Orders.

Just a few pointers--- need to apply Moly grease the barrel socket and threads then Torque the barrel nut to 30 Ft Lbs 3 times. If needed index to the next hole for gas tube. Lastly Headspace using a Field gauge at minimum for safety sake.

Just because you have done it the wrong way in the past & has yet to bite you doe's not make it right.

  • @killersp1974 I have the USMC TM on the M16A2. The rifle is fine.

  • Very good video, very well done.

  • I m using gas system, Im surprised you arent pushing for the piston system, it is the latest rage.

  • @marvintheboon Until our military standardizes it I'm staying away from them. Too many variants out there and if the company decides to go under I need to get spare parts. I like the idea but the DI system works fine for me. I'm not running a full auto weapon so this should do fine. I'd like to see a piston system that costs less than $300. I think once the DOD adopts one then I'll go that direction. I think they will replace the whole platform when that happens though.

  • You use a torque wrench the max being 85 pounds the least being i believe 65 The OEM does this process and alot if any good books will tell you the same. Ehh I think your a bit worried about the gas tube. Headspace on an ar-15 is predetermined to all the other people with headspace gauges unless chambering yourself. Also a decent wrench will allow you to put your torque wrench right into it. You do not need the yhm wrench. Have been building ar's for 10 years now.

  • @BENLINUZ For the barrel nut I can use the standard armorers wrench. The YHM lock nut needs the YHM wrench since it is propriatary to them. Otherwise I'd have just used the tolls I have. The rifle shoots great. This is about the 20th AR I have built. I build a lot of uppers for friends of mine who want a upper they have parts for but no armory tools. The neatest one was a 6.8mm and I am still tossing around this 6.8 as a possibility.

  • Last, you can apply a thin layer of Loctite under your gas block to prevent any "dancing" while firing which maintains consistent pressure curves and barrel harmonics. Since you used a clamp on style block that's probably not necessary. That's more of a trick for set screw type blocks. Also I like to apply a little grease to my receiver threads before I install the barrel nut. All these little tricks usually add up to a small improvement in accuracy. Once again, great and very informative video.

  • Great video. I'd like to share 3 tricks with you to slightly improve accuracy if you don't mind. First, if the barrel fits even slightly loose in the receiver, apply a thin layer of blue Loctite to the extension. This locks the barrel in place but it's not a permanent bond, easily removed. Second, when you have the proper location for your barrel nut, loosen it and re-torque it two more times to set the threads and eliminate "thread stretch". cont....

  • i thought you have to use a torque wrench on the barrel nut to 30 foot pounds

  • @MrLongbranch303 No. That might not line up the barrel nut.

  • @ammosmith i think you can give or take 5 pounds from 30

  • @MrLongbranch303 yes you do but the spec is not just 30 foot pounds it is 30-80 ft lbs. At 30 ft lbs tighten to

the next hole you can insert the gas to into. Kind of a old rule of is to tighten the barrel nut and break it loose. Usually on

third torque down stop the process. This helps seat the barrel and it should not loosen during fire. I have had

    several shake loose.

  • What about headspace? That is the only reason why I havent built an AR from scratch like that and no one is explaining how to measure headspace.

  • @deepwater1974 You need a set of head space gauges, you can get them from Brownells for about $50.00 for go/no go gauge set.

After the barrel is installed; remove the ejector and extractor from the bolt install the bolt into the carrier. Now insert the GO gauge into the chamber and run the bolt forward by hand it should close normally, remove the GO gauge and insert the NO GO gauge run the bolt forward; it SHOULD NOT close all the way it should start to rotate but not lock or close fully.

  • @TescoVee Barrel is already headspaced. You only need them if you are chambering the barrel yourself.

  • @TescoVee Sounds simple enough.

  • One point to make that you missed, need to lube the threads of the upper when installing the barrel nut, especially when using a steel barrel nut.

Otherwise you risk galling the hell out of the upper's threads. All said great video!
