Doubletracking's good but CoolEdit/Audition has a 'chorus' function which lets you fake it pretty well. Some vocals will also need de-essing before compression, and it's usually a good idea to take out the lowest 50-200Hz (depending on the voice). Also, try recording vocals in mono, centering in mix and applying stereo effects.

The result *might* sound bad on its own, but sounds good with other instruments, especially when the voice isn't fighting with the bassline.

All ya'll have it all wrong . Clear vocals don't come from just noise reduction and compression. Amazing vocals come from proper EQ'ing. Every voice is unique, therefore they have different EQ settings.

Thanks for the tutorial on your vocal processing. One thing I found in sonar when I copy and drag some vocals to a new track, without any editing, is the volume is much louder, so I need to compress it slightly more to get the same highs and lows.
