Thanks for the inspiration of "cool" as a category for aikido-techniques! All the haters talk about realistic or correct, or whatever, discussing, arguing and telling that their own way of doing aikido is the best. Let's just say it's cool and practice!
Hm ... As for me, it's still a little too fast, haha xD but I can always catch something: 3 Only ... how Tori caught in a wave of uke's hand? I can not see o__O .... xD
Hm... Jak dla mnie to i tak trochę za szybko, haha xD no ale zawsze mogę coś wyłapać :3 Tylko... jak Tori chwycił w 1 rzucie dłon uke? o__O nie moge dostrzec.... xD
Dragonre ... I agree with you on the aspect of putting your own arme behind you and the havig it taken advantage of but the point is that balance is supposed to be totally corrupted at that point and uke should be struggling to simply upright himself. It's not shown on this clip as these guys are pants ... but uke should have no way of taking advantage at that point. Also these techniques are only exercises to learn proper movement, they're not practical
Note the word "slow" in the video description, this footage is not at full speed so the actions are happening much faster than you are seeing them. The point is to be able to see the technique properly.
Thank you for posting this video. I enjoyed watching these techniques. They appear rather smooth and look fun to do. I realize that not all technique is meant to be performed directly in self defense, but in each of these it seems a very silly thing to be giving up your back. Anyone remotely competent would take advantage of that.
hey! in our dojo, hakama's are being used by those higher belts!! isn't it a form of discrimination among lower belts?? i do respect sensei's instruction.
hakama was also used becuase the gi is was considered "underwear" and O Sensei would never train anyone in their underwear. some dojos require all women to wear hakama; in others you earn the right to wear hakama when you get to a certain kyu level.
bryhykr - I have been an aikidoka since 1991 and have worn a hakama since day 1. O-Sensei once scolded my senior instructor, Mitsugi Saotome Shihan for not being dressed for class when he did not wear his hakama. I also study Katori Shinto Ryu under Phill Relnik Sensei. I have worn a hakama for KSR since day 1. Hakama is just pants. For some reason aikidoka started associating rank with hakama. I suggest you read "In the Dojo" by Dave Lowry which addresses alot of history in martial arts.
Hakamas for the present view is just for black belts but, Hakama in O'Sensei's time is required to even join the class, for O'Sensei "No Hakama no class", the true meaning of hakama is not the superiority of the black belt, instead it signifies what qualities a Aikidoka must have! Most school are clouded that you must wear a Hakama when you are a black belt! it is simply wrong! it is disrespect for the lower belts! lower belts also do has qualities of a true Aikidoka!
While it is true that Hakamas are simply used to signify that a person is simply an aikidoka and not a master. A person is usually considered an Aikidoka upon attainment of their Shodan (translation - first step) which is the 'black belt' step. As such Hakamas were used to signify that an individual had completed basic training (the kyus) and had BEGUN their Study of Aikido. This is not disrespectful to those who are not udansha. There are however styles that treat this differently
Iriminage is called Kokyunage in some styles. I train in the Ki Fed of Great Britian and our syllabus lists Iriminage as Kokyunage. Iriminage is another throw entirely - I know that this isn't classically how Ueshiba taught it (he clearly demonstrates it as Iriminage in his teachings). See "Aikido and the Dynamic Sphere" for the discrepancies between Ueshiba's base and Tohei's derivative.
Let me thank you for your comment I was simply taught this way and posted it on the internet similarly under this title. If you look at the other videos I posted you will see a laundry list of comments regarding "syntax" errors in my titling abilities. All in all though I look at it as semantics and still hope for people to post a comment regarding criticism over the application of the techniques in the videos. thanks for the comment again
No problem - just annoying see some people dismissing the naming of the techniques as bad aiki education. It is a nice demonstration of the tenkans especially in these techniques, though. Keep up the good work.
Apprendez L'aikido- 1983 (with christian tissier) has some irimi forms followed at about 01.20 by some kokyu forms. it is worth looking at some of his to see the differences, much easier than explaining. Check out the various doshu films on youtube, some excellent kokyu forms in there. if i find a really good one i'll forward it
I'm not sure what branch I study off of, but I was emailing this guy who does ikikai in the Czech Republic, and to make a long story short, I think you are right, my bad
ok, i see your point, however it is still the same case of defining the technique. "kokyu nage" translates into "breath throw" which can be defined as any projection which lacks a joint lock. These techniques therefore can be most clearly defined as the uke performing a "ushiro katate ryotedori" technique and the nage (tori) is performing a variation of a "kokyu nage"
This is IrimiNage not KokiuNage from UshiroRioteDori

Hakama is also used to conceal footwork. Wich does not go well with training. The instructor needs to see if youre doing it right.
