I think it's vise-versa: Big Brown was retired before the 2008 BC Classic (October 13); Curlin ran in the BC Classic and he was then retired at the end of the year.

AHH, I was SOOO excited when I saw the article on Benny's comeback, he is a GREAT sprinter. Didn't he win the Eclipse Award for Male Sprinter? And yeah Cocoa is a really nice filly, she chased Zenyatta pretty gamley in the Classic. And Stardom Bound is on the list for Kentucky Derby contenders. Can't wait for Nicanor to race on the 31 either, although I have a strange feeling that he's not going to be nearly good enough for stakes company. He's racing awfully late.

Why is no one noticing that Santa Anita's pro-ride track is fair with no speed biases...Gary Stevens says its the best track hes ridden on. Breeders cup challenge saturday all the horses that should've won...won. What more can you ask for? and I read its 70% dirt anyhow.

Santa Anita did not have a choice on the polytrack, California made it mandatory at all tracks there. They are not trying to alter a perfect sport, they are taking a sport with breakdowns and trying to lessen them. I do hope you get some educimation.

Traffic problems during the race is normal-thats why they call it a horse race. Who cares if it wouldnt prove anything? It would be better than letting them run themselves to death because of their heart. A match race would be incredibily stupid, because most likely something would happen to one of them, and it STILL wouldnt prove anything. Even if you ran three horses(which nobody would go for) there still is a much larger chance of one getting hurt, and then you still have traffic problems!

Believe it or not, a horse can be boxed in during a three horse race-making them pull out and go around. They can be taken wide, bad break, etc. Like I said, a match race wouldnt prove anything more than a regular race. And you absolutely DONT HAVE to do it! You can look at the race record, beyer figures, etc. And in those cases, Curlin is heads above BB. And if they would hold a match race-I would stop watching racing because it would show me that they obviously dont care about the horses.

They weren't OUTLAWED. I don't think there even is any national way to regulate since each state has its own racing commission. They just didn't seem like a great idea (silly, of course, and it's a shame.)

Perhaps the final time or competition wasn't notable, but it was a good race considering he hadn't really run hard since the Derby. He breezed through the Preakness, under wraps for the better part of the stretch, and then he was pulled up after a mile in the Belmont. He should only get sharper off this effort.

Man, THAT was funny. I love both of these horses, though Curlin is my favorite in years. Brown was pretty courageous in the Haskell today, but I think not very fit. Curlin wasn't there today - nobody that classy in there! LOL! Brown was victorious after a grueling stretch drive. Nick Zito's entry of Coal Play & Cool Coal Man ran 2nd & 3rd with Alaazo picking up 4th. If you get a chance to watch it, DO! The stretch run was KILLING ME till Brown finally switched leads & shifted gears. Great race & Brown showed a side of himself we had yet to see. He fought for it tooth & nail as did Kent.

Curlin won last year's Classic. This year it will run on October 25th, but Curlin's camp has not committed to running in it. Actually, Asmussen doesn't look like he's anxious to run Curlin on the synthetic surface. But Brown will most likely go & Casino Drive is in quarantine to ship back over for the race. He will most likely have a prep race (The Goodwood Stakes) before the Classic. But I honestly don't see Curlin as a definite contender...yet! Maybe The Woodward next or Pacific Classic...

this is really cool....comparing these two horses is crazy, curlin run against real challengers like Any given S., Street S., Rags To R., L Ron, n many other good 3 yrs olds, Big Brown is a great horse just like his Spectacular Bid, his trainer defeated him, he only won the preakness cause there was no one to challenge him, the derby was his best, n the belmont he was even lucky Casino D was hurt....who was had a royal blood for the belmont..Steroids lol....sad cause big brown does not need it
