Anyone know how high is the ladder in the scene? I'm in charge of the props for the school musical and I really need help. It would be great if you know how high the ladder is.
@applesweet1759 considering how tall Gene Kelly is and his position relative to the ladder, it's probably six or seven feet. I would reccommend a six-foot ladder, because it will be easier to carry on- and off-stage and still provide the necessary height advantage =)
I am currently playing Don in a young actor's production of it...which Gene Kelly's granddaughter happens to be in. Needless to say, I'm a bit nervous at the prospect of preforming in an audience containing Gene Kelly's daughter...
This used to be my least favorite song. Now it's my favorite! I die when he sings "I've laid awake the whole night through". Favorite line of the song!
My favorite movie of all time...This can always make me feel better. I only wish there's still a little bit of this pure romance out there for me...it's a shame not a lot of kids my age appreciate these movies just because they're "old"...this was when movies were at their peak
This is a wonderful movie. In my town we have an old theater and a boy and I went to watch this movie there. There is nothing like that. It was a great night lol. Thanks for posting it. I love this song.
Watching those things.. makes me kinda mad that some people aren't immortal. but.. on the other hand its how we want him to stay. if he lived in this young form today he'd have changed so I guess its best to keep him stay like that in our memories.
i'll be honest at first i didn't care for this particular song but the more i listen to it on my ipod the more it grows on me, i stopped being ridiculous and now i like the song a lot!
it's funny, i never really liked this scene when i was younger-i always thought "boring" and pressed fast forward. now- i see what a beautiful story is told here between Don and Kathy's characters. She is still hesitant, still shy and somewhat resisting until about halfway through the number, but Don never stops pursuing her. He never lets her go. This number is a showcase of the embodiment of true love.

What a wonderful masterpiece, I so love this song I just heard this song for the first time in the 1998 movie "The Object Of My Affection" with Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd and I fell in love with it
@nancyfloressantos Nothing like a good classic I tell ya :D....I just heard this song in the 1998 movie "The Object Of My Affection" and I fell in love with it
I'm 19, and I never am afraid to play little romances like this to my girlfriend. Long live these movies. Movies and radio are so not the same anymore, and it's sad.
@Poxell91 that comment literally made my day! i'm 17 and i wish life was a little bit more like this film, so whoever your girlfriend is, she's lucky to have you :)
@Poxell91 Oh my goodness more guys need to be like you!!!! That is amazing, your girlfriend is indeed very lucky, and I completely agree with you about how sad it is, that they don't make movies or songs like these anymore :(
My best friend introduced me to this amazing movie and I watch it all the time. This scene is my favorite moment of the entire movie. This may not be the most romantic scene in History but none the less the most beautiful to me. Nowadys movies are all about sex. I miss the good old days when it more about the unique connection/ bond the couple had for one another. Look at the way Gene looks at Debbie, u don't see that often anymore.
I LOVE THIS!!!! I LOVE HER DRESS! I LOVE THE DANCE SEQUENCE!!!!!! *SIGH* THIS IS MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE MUSICAL!!!!! There will never be anything like this again!
*Sigh* This film is everything a movie should be. We've lost the magic in modern films. Being real is all good and fine, but I'll take the magic of Gene Kelly over 'realistic' movies any day.
Gene Kelly is such a hunk

You're like a plaintive melody
That never lets me free
But I'm content
The angels must have sent you
And they meant you just for me...

You came along

If I ever dared to think you'd care
This is what I'd say to you
