  • MR DENICE620 lays it down for us all....................btw.....arcade who? what? why even bother? i tried.......hypity hype hype hype....then i stumble upon BSS......who heal my sparklehorse wound like i never thought possible...even though they're not comparable...i know mark must've dug them....i mean, he collab'ed with feist....anyways...BSS...my current relentless passion..........

  • Lol there's like only 1/4 of them here, if even.

  • BSS can pull off the amount of members b/c not one of them over does it. They're musical-engines are not fueled by ego, instead each member has a subtle, yet impactful role. Auxillery percussionists to the fuzzy hum of a rhythem guitar that provides an undertow current of substance to the song. These musicians have innovated a genre through self-exploration that its just safer to call it "a sound".

  • I love when bands actually sound greatt live...pure talent

  • That's a lot of guitars.

  • if these guys had any more people on stage, they would need a permit. ts tss

  • Three guitarists and two bassists? I can dig it.

  • @TheZatrahc 5 guitarists.

  • @LibraHorse1 Just got better

  • i seen bss live 2 days ago in Dartmouth and they were amazing. and the week before i seen arcade fire. the 2 best bands in the world right now.

  • what a cluster fuck, looks like the idea for this band was birthed from a bunch of guys at a bar and one too many Jager bombs. "no kidding? I play guitar too man, let's get together some time and jam dude, wait, you play too? and you too? and you too? well hell, let's all get together and jam,,,,,,,"

  • @jumeau1

    I know, isn't it awesome!

  • i have a fever...and its more canadians in broken social scene

  • I have never seen so many guitarists on a stage at once!

  • Needs more guitar.

  • I am very, truly, disappointed to the fact that the band doesn't have enough room for one more, just one more band member with a cowbell. Cowbells are the path to success for any Pitchfork approved bands.

  • Więcej ich stara nie miała? :)

  • the guy with the green tshirt just singin....CMON MAN! YOURE BETTER THAN THAT. Ask one of your friends to teach you some open chords.

    Eh, buddy?!

  • @ExecutionOfAllThings He runs to the back and plays some drums during certain parts too

  • @rubythedestroyer there like 24 of them right? not there, but in total... :D

Absolutly love this song : )

  • @LarnaBananaSplit There's two guys on time share in one body, over on the right

  • I didn't know letterman's Keyboardist was canadian.....

  • @SilentEcho33 paul schaffer? well he's now considered an adult for having played with BSS

  • i like how the second drummer hast to jumo up and down from the drums to the mic jajajajajaj

  • Love the canadian comments fuckin hilarious.

  • this is art my friends

  • I like the girl on stage playing airdrums doing nothing musically :D

  • Esta chido, pero la verdad, no me gustaria estar en una banda así.. con tantos miembros..

  • Fact: Canada has no military, instead tours of duty are served with Broken Social Scene.

  • That's Feist there, right? Man, she should be doing lead vocals, fuck, she's an awesome singer...

  • @justin7560 I think that's Amy Millan.

  • @justin7560 It's Amy Millan

  • so like... can i be apart of broken social scene!? :DD

  • best 10 member band. ever.

  • so many awesome performances on Letterman

  • too epic for television.

  • does anyone get the feeling how awkward this performance was?

i never really liked BSS live perfromances except when emily sings since kevin drews mumbled, incoherent singing voice only sounds good on the album but sounds like shit at concerts.

  • this is still my favorite live song BSS do on youtube

  • hear that? hear that? GREAT city.

  • Every single good newish canadian band besides Arcade Fire have something to do with this band. This means

Broken Social scene = or > Arcade Fire

  • I love how...full?...the band is. Everyone basically contributes to something, and the output sound is amazing.

  • Lol. So many of them! Good band.

  • WE NEED MOAR GUITARS

  • @gabo10101 AHAHAHA !

  • paul should be mixed in louder

  • I think i'd rather die than have to do the levels on their instruments

  • hotdog

I'm pretty sure the chicks role is to keep it from being a total sausagefest

  • @jaimegriffin i thought it was to cook for them

  • At some point, when cats keep asking if they can join the band too, you gotta say... "nah, we're good with the 10 we have." But, seriously, I do like them :)

  • I am going to miss the vuvuzela feature :(

  • LOL at the guy rocking the CBC shirt at 1:09

  • Reminds me of Minus the Bear, which is no bad thing.

  • Paul Schaffer is the coolest baby boomer on the planet!

  • PAUL SCHAFFER ON PIANO EVERBODY

  • Broken Social Scene are better than Arcade Fire, in my opinion. Even though they aren't as critically acclaimed, they're a far more mature band and less pretentious, if you ask me.

  • @rockaintpollution BSS are the best but Arcade Fire are great as well

  • @CerpinTaxt1983 Sure. Arcade Fire are great, don't get me wrong. But way overrated.

  • Montreal has Arcade Fire.

    Toronto has Broken Social Scene.

    Canada has AWESOMENESS!!!

  • Paul Schaffer's the new member of BSS haha

  • lol i love them, so many of them. it's great. but to get the sound they want for cheaper, they gotta have this many members.

  • check out some new ish, this old dudes.

It's more like 1 in 1, 000, 000 Canadians are in the band.....given our current population. True story.

  • fact: 1 out 4 canadians are in broken social scene

  • @nugbutt 1 out of 3 if you include members that have come and go.

  • @Mineav it's a known fact that Canadians aren't considered adults until they serve a term in broken social scene

  • @nugbutt HA

  • @nugbutt:

I heard it was 1 in 7, but your estimate is probably more accurate

  • @adamb2288 yeah, i did my research. just look at all those thumbs up that comment got.... it just has to be true!

  • @nugbutt not to mention that it clearly says "fact:" right before therefore it must be completely factual,,,

    (fact:AlexGillespie1 has a massive penis)

  • @nugbutt that's true, when BSS and Arcade Fire tour at the same time, Canada is actually empty

  • @nugbutt The rest of the Canadians are in Arcade Fire

  • @DeeD85 and the new pornographers

  • @nugbutt And they all play the guitar

  • @nugbutt Another 1/4 are in the Arcade Fire.

  • @nugbutt and it is projected that by 2025, one out of every 8 people on Earth will have been at one point in their life in Broken Social Scene

  • @NeonFoxLetsPlays And when that day comes, BSS will rule the earth with Arcade fire sitting closely by their side. They will rule unchallenged for years until finally, one band from America with a high enough population to contest them steps into the light. And that band is Edward sharp and the magnetic zeros...

  • @nugbutt either that or they'll all merge into one superband: The Magnetic Broken Arcade Zeroes Scene

  • Letterman always has the best bands

  • The Fallon show's been killing it too, far more than Letterman in terms of quality of musical guest.

  • 100 thousand guitarists

  • was this a performance in the middle of times square? there are 900 people on the 10foot by 10foot stage area.....wtf?!

  • i think paul shcafer should actually play with them on the regular

  • very good! Sick drummers! Great Harmonies

  • Are there six guitarists? That's a whole lot of guitars...Yikes!

  • @CaryCristofer

i count 5 with brendan on the bass

  • ilu ich tam kurwa wlazło?

  • I love this band's studio albums, but I guess it's a bit hard for me to watch these supergroups play live.

  • supergroup?

  • @MrAmputechture How come?

  • I don't watch Letterman that often, but does Paul Shaffer usually play with the bands that are on the show? That's pretty cool.

  • I remember when he played with Phish. I think he plays with the bands sort of a lot.

  • lol theres like 20 people in that group, not literally but u get the idea

  • lmao the do quite literally have upwards to like 22 people on stage at once. Kinda like an Indie super group lmao

  • Well, super group doesn't imply a large number of members necessarily, just that the members are all famous from some other project. BSS (meaning Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning) really hates the label though, saying that most "indie" rockers are by default associated with a lot of acts anyway.

  • @GeGeMus12 there sometimes are 20 people. Last time I saw them live there were i think 16 on stage at one point. haha

  • I'm not sure if Letterman has any input into the bands they have on his show but if he does he seems to have good taste in music.

  • @tolchock1984 Not at all. Paul Schafer is the man.

  • dude the drums sounded so fking awesome, the drum solo part was epic love them <3333

  • it's good to see that there are still bands that do it for the music these days. too many sell out bands on this generation.

Best quote i ever heard was:

"I dont care about the lights, the fucking money, all this fancy shit, i just wanna fucking rock and roll!!!" - Ozzy Osbourne haha.

  • you for got up dharma down!!!

  • I love Evan Cranley on his two stringed guitar just looking cool.

Brendans bass playing is amazing on this song

  • They're all friends and it's about the MUSIC. Kick ass BSS. Sountrack to "Half Nelson," incredible.

  • these guys are awesome

  • Hey. I'm putting together an indie band. We're looking for a french horn, three more guitars and another xylophone. Anyone interested?

  • Need a tuba player? :)

  • I don't know. Can you play it all moody? We're really moody.

  • where are you from?

  • LoL. Umm..Let's say Northern Minnesota. That sounds Indie right?

  • i would totally be in but i live in toronto.. :(

  • dude there are so many kick ass canadian bands man. Look at Rush...aside from them being one of the most kick ass bands in the world, having the best drummer to ever exist, and being able to do with 3 guys what a lot of 5-6 people bands can't even pull off, they are one of the higgest selling bands on the planet with like 24 gold records and 14 platinum (3 multi-platinum) and just like BSS, they are also from Toronto.

  • rush?

  • the BEST part of this song, and hence my favourite is 2:42, fucking immense

  • What is the name of the orange guitar?

  • love how not even half the band is there.

  • That's how they roll haha

  • I think three more guitars could really fill their sound out.

  • This.

  • That? ???

  • I didn't know I was listening to rent.. hahaha

  • rent is my least favourite thing ever

  • the musical, not the monthly installments (although that kind of rent is bad too)

  • I'd love to be part of that band; Just give me a tambourine and i'll chill out in the back.

  • i don't know the fella's name running back and forth between the mic & the drums.. but why not just put the mic by the drums??

  • You can't do that. You get feedback. That's why sometimes you see drummers with the plexiglass panels beside them.

  • wow, they sound great here.

    love bss :)

  • yeah this is sooo goood

  • LISTEN THE FUCK UP YOU POWERLESS LITTLE TWATS. Dick below me, I hate to rain on your pretentious little parade, but no one knows what the FUCK YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT RUNT. How about the influence of my colossal hand around your gaunt little throat? Flimsy twat! On your bike and fuck off down the road with your rubbish! You wanna talk headaches bitch? Your aimless, blithering drab is half-baked, you scatterbrained snivelling little termite. All in all, good tune, ROE OUT

  • hahah you go RoeJogan8

  • ahaha that was great

  • you may hear loads of influences.

One is influenced by anything one takes in.

You may hear the influence of each member's past and present record collection. You may hear the influence of the drinking water on the singer's throat.

INFLUENCE. I hear people making music that doesn't give me a head ache.

  • I recognize one of the guitarists as the bassist for Do Make Say Think.

  • i dont think ppl agree with you

  • Not if it still sounds good...

  • I hear a lot of New Order influence here. GOod stuff.

  • yes, i agree with you!

  • 楽しそうでごちゃごちゃしててとてつもなく綺麗な曲

    thank you

    i love this music!

  • Paul makes an excellent addition to the group. :D

  • id love to see every member of bss get together and play a concert.that would be massive

  • They do, every so often. Check out videos from their Harbourfront concert in 2007...it's AWESOME!

  • They need more guitars.

  • lol

  • You sir, are epic win.

  • wah-wah!

  • when you need 2 drummers, that just automaticaly proves your awesome!

  • hahaha Totaly!:)

  • wow I was wondering how he was getting such a sweet beat haha

  • busy is right..i heard LOADS of good from this band.and i think the studio work prolly sounds hot. but whats this? A guitar chorus? and folks just all over the place...

  • Sounds a bit busy to me...

  • thats what so great about them!

  • Shouldn't be thumbing kingalow1 down, its his opinion, and its a good point. But thats just a reason many people like BSS, theres so much going on

  • zzz

  • Even Paul schaffer plays with them

  • ...There are 19 people in BSS.

Their music is absolutely beautiful, check out some of their other songs. I think it's pretty awesome that they have so many people in one bad, each contributing in his/her way to create something amazing.

  • 1 out of every 5 Canadians are in Broken Social Scene

  • Hahaha, so true.

  • lol. you're funny (not being sarcastic)

  • copying comments?

  • @SilentKill8593 hahahahhhahahahahahaahhahahahahahahahaahaahhahahaha

  • paul is playing with them lol ?

  • 3:16 right on the dot

  • lol, they hardly fit on that little stage.

  • I bet Letterman would have had a lot of hands to shake and people to acknowledge before closing the show.

  • apart from being the only woman onstage, amy millan's gotta feel a little out of place not having a beard.

  • LOL they hardly fit on stage. great band though.

  • drew's vocals should have been louder.

  • Andrew Whiteman sings lead on this song. Kev only sings backup/harmony.

  • Yup, Whiteman rules.

  • really?

i think you're missing the point.

  • this is my all time fav bss song :D

  • hahaha thats funny 1 in 5 canadians are in BSS

  • Canadians rules!!!!!

  • It's so different from the album, but it's good also.

: ) We don't have that decease anymore, please come again.

  • 1 in 5 Canadians is in broken social scene

  • I lol'd heartily.
