  • Border Wave!

  • YOU'VE GOT 2 ADMIT THIS SONG IS PRETTY KINKY!

  • he almost got iggy pop on us…fantastic

  • very good version and a Jagger not so bad....

  • nice cover!but would you expect anything less from doug sahm?

  • Is that Pat Green?

  • All Right

  • No, I dthink the guy in blue is Billy Sheffield.

  • I see a Rolling Stones influence big time

  • Meyers--Augie's last name is Meyers-not Meyer....Anyway...I still put a key on Doug's grave every month for writing Key to My Heart...Kathy, The Editing Chair

  • it is fun to see alvin crow rock`s,i like the harmonie doug and alvin

  • It's interesting to hear how the Vox organ maintains its place in the mix whereas a B-3 (one of my personal fav instruments of all time), for example, would tend to permeate though the frequency range and fill the sound "holes". A good lesson for all you young keyboard players AND audio techs out there gigging.

  • Used to party w/ Alvin Crow& the Pleasant Valley Boys at Cain's Ballroom!!! What a Gas!!!

  • God Bless Doug (R.I.P.) and I gotta say that I still get knocked on my can by the incredibly cool and gloriously cheesy Vox organ sound of the one and only Augie Meyer!!!!

  • Awesome!

  • all the way augie!

  • we note alvin crow, that multi talented guy, does not miss a photo op, and a good thing it is too!

  • Who's the gtr player on the left... son Shawn, possibly...?

  • indeed it is he. learning the ropes

  • Isn't that Augie Meyer on KEYBOARDS?

  • @gene, yes indeed

  • Definitely Augie

  • this is an old KINKS song!!!!

  • Anybody know if there are any books on Doug or the SDQ.?

  • That one guitar player looks like George

    Thorogood.

  • @shakedownstreet48

    it's Alvin Crow !

  • Doug was a totally impressive fuck. No dis intended.

  • Thanks for posting this. We still miss you, Doug Sahm, and IMHO, only Fats Domino, Allen Toussaint and Johnnie Johnson can top Augie Meyers when it comes to tickling the ivories.

  • Comment removed

  • All great artists, jfrankley, but you can't leave Billy Payne of Little Feat out of that mix.

  • Great to see them perform together, father and son. And the rest of this band is also doing a great job.

Nice vid to watch and listen to.

  • What a kick to see Doug impersonating Jagger, on a Ray Davies song yet! But why not? The band was named to cash in on the British Invasion. And Borderwave named to cash in on new wave. Hard album to find, and I've never seen it on CD. I'm told it's one of his best.

  • Damn if they ain't aged well

  • that is Doug's son Shaun in the blue

  • Thanks, What a trip, he's trying to upstage Doug. I wondered who he was.

  • @expostfactum i saw shawn play you reajjy got me with his dad about 29 years ago. you should have seen doug's face

  • This is a Kinks song.

  • Who'll be the next in line? I sure wouldn't want to try and fill Doug's shoes, but step on up hot shot. We might like it.

  • Yeah, that was a Kinks hit.

  • kinks did this originally right ?i also heard a version by gary myrick thats was pretty good

  • With Alvin and Speedy shouldn't this be billed as the Texas Mavericks rather than SDQ?

  • Did Doug play out with The Texas Mavericks band name prior to mid - late 80's ? I lose track. I just think , commercially , it was a better idea , with John Perez and Augie Meyer in tow , to stage this as a (High profile )SDQ comeback , which it was , tho' they played out a bit in the 70's , and , thankfully , they kept turning up thru the 80's , with Mike Buck , Louis Ortega , Rocky Morales and others. They were all over TV at this time(In '81).

  • Yep, the best do come out of San Antonio.

  • sinoyank ----couldn't agree more--but doug did and does rock

  • What year was this footage shot?

  • A Kinks song

  • Doug Sahm was such a versatile artist. I liked a lot of the blusier stuff he did under his own name as well as his SDQ material- not to forget his part in the Texas Tornados. Click on my username link to hear a tribute version of County Line- from SDQ's Day Dreaming at Midnight album- by the Mistissini Basement Rats (vocal by yours truly).

  • sp (blusier=bluesier)

  • As much as I enjoy this number, seeing and hearing the old Sir Douglas Quintet videos reminds me why rock and roll music really needs the energy of the young.

  • Yeah!

  • Yeah!

  • My God..... Doud Sahm with Alvin Crow!!!!!!!! I blown awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. peace and love from okieville

  • You can catch Alvin Crow, damn near every Thursday,at The Broken Spoke (S. Lamar in Austin) w/ James White for The Hardcore Country Hour.....

  • Tuesday

  • incredible awsome!

  • Wow ... I miss Doug Sahm.

  • Good God Amighty, Doug was so important. So very, very important. And let me tell you, it's so cool to see my dear old Dad in sleeveless satin rockin' out. He still rocks. God bless Doug and Alvin.

  • El copón bendito ¡¡¡¡¡ Que grades Dough y Augie , y encima se hacen una de los Kinks.

    Si señorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, los mas grandes.

  • this ROCKS !!!!!!!!!!

  • Groove on Sir Doug!!

The Bottle Rockets opened up w/ "Crossroads" in Dallas, yesterday!!!!

  • Alvin Crow with Doug from ACL in 1981

also on that show - Joe King Carrasco and the Crowns

  • RIP Doug Sahm (lead singer/guitarist)

  • Surprise surprise, other than my old band I've never heard anyone cover this old Kinks chestnut. I caught the Quintet in the Sixties--what fun. Gonna miss ya Sir Doug. And I think that's a Vox Continental not a Farfisa.

  • Awesome video!!!! Thanks for sending the link, Shawn!!! I swear I don't believe you've EVER stood still for a second!

  • Doug was the king of cool. Speedy is not far behind. I'm posting a video response that proves it.

  • 3 weeks ago I checked out Doug Sahm and there was one from the Texas Tornadoes band. Now he and Freddy Fender are R.I.P.,we need to see even more videos of this artist who performed around 43 years of blues, country and r&r.

  • Is that a young Alvin Crow on guitar and Speedy Sparks on Bass? What year was this?

  • I'd have to look at my copy , but , I REMEBER IT BEING 1981.

  • This is almost as good as the Kinks.

  • Is the that Dougs son..who went on to form the MEAT PUPPETS???? How come Augie never graduated from the Farfisa Organ to a Hammond???

  • How come, you say? 'Cos you can't get a B-3 to sound cheesy enough to imitate a Vox Continental (if you had the money to buy one) or a Farfisa (if you didn't). At the time Augie had the money, so he got a Vox and all the cheese you could want.

  • Doug And Augie. What more can you say . They had it all.

  • he'll never be mick jagger! Seriously though, the music is ace, the keyboard stuff is great, see where Dave Greenfield (The Stranglers) got it from!

  • I would LOVE to see more from this appearance.

  • You can get the DVD! http://acldvd.com

  • @rspaceball I second that emotion! It's a great DVD.

  • How ironic: First a video of Doug early in his career, being marketed as a "British Invasion" band (from Texas, of course) and then Doug near the end covering a Kinks tune.

  • ...But , it is'nt that near the end. This was 1981 , if I'm not mistaken , about 20 years before he passed. It's kind of ironic , but , as we all know , Doug was a song man. If he liked a song , he did it.

  • That's right. "Who'll Be The Next In Line" was the opening cut on "Border Wave," which was released in 1981. Don't know what made me think this was so much later.

  • A great genre straddling artist was Doug.
