I met people addicted to this stuff- their brains are destroyed and muscles are weak. It's fun to try it once in your life, but using it on a regular basis is as addictive as cigarettes or alcohol. Ugh, I remember when I thought marijuana was bad, and I just despised it. Seeing some guys holding a Canada flag with a marijuana leaf, it annoyed me. If I saw that now, I would smile and possibly applaud them. I now know that the social norm should always be questioned critically.

Apparently the American Government are gonna look at the marijuana laws scientifically. They still think it should be illegal because of their studies, and yet alcohol and tobacco are legal. It makes no sense to me.

advocates of change in marijuana laws could learn from this woman. from my expierience, lagalization advocates almost treat marijuana as an idol. refusing to call it a drug, but instead saying its an herb, saying it has no negative externalities, listening to music about pot constantly, or practically worshiping bob marley. its annoying. be logical and say things that actually have merit like the financial cost of prohibition, the little harm of it, and your agenda will go much farther.

id wager that if america decriminalised marijuana in the sense of making it a a finable offense (which i would gladley except as a starting point to the eventual goal) it'd be able to bring in a large revenue of money, a right step in regaining its AAA status and id be suprised if it didnt also attract a large amount of tourism as a result. I think the economical benefits of marijuana will be the major selling point in politics if it were ever to be legalised/decriminalised

My drug of choice is alcohol, as it is contained in beer. I use it for my own personal reasons, and would never think to justify or proselytize its use. I respect Anne Druyan, but I don't understand why she needs to promote the benefits of Mary Jane. I do, on the other hand, support the decriminalization of its possession.

Rather than echoing wearestarstuffsagan, I will add that even if you stick to smoking it, it has not been positively linked to cancer or any other lung or throat disease. I agree that putting smoke in your lungs is not the best thing, but that doesn't mean that it's not innocuous. And vaporizing is innocuous, and in that scenario, the benefits faaaaar outweigh any detriment.

Ann Druyan speaks the truth.Sadly there is so much ignorance and misunderstanding about this issue that much more needs to be done.I remember when I was not allowed to buy alcohol because I was under 21.Back then I used to drink it more, I used to somehow find my way around it. Why, you may ask? Because I was inclined to do what was prohibited. Now, I'm over 21, 100% legal and I have lost my interest for it. I almost never drink. Growing up does wonderful things too.

Weed is generally used as an escape from the harsh realities of life. While not a punishable offense, the observation that other escapes such as food, shopping, internet porn, and addictive drugs have negative consequences for society is not without merit. I've smoked a lot of pot in my life (among many other drug adventures) and am a therapist specializing in substance abuse. To attempt to deny that pot is demotivating is folly. But to each their own. It is certainly not a criminal activity.
