If you listen carefully, as you all do by the reponses, you will understand that one day these photos and the scenes created by the natural earth, will all be a memory, some may never be able to enjoy what so many of us take for granted....
RIP Dad - the many nights we used to sit there stoned, listening to this bit of music. Now he's dead - and I will be playing this at his funeral. RIP. xxx.
These are true words spoken by a true genius to us mere mortals, but we all lose our tears in the rain one day, so try your best to give everyone you know "Good memories! xxx .......................................................Glynn Martin
It took a few viewings of this film for me to realize how poignant & heart-rending this scene was & what it represented. Yes, the replicants were merciless killers, but since the Tyrell Corp. had made them "more human than human," they felt life more intensely & completely than any of us...so one can understand their anger & frustration at being cursed with a 4-year lifespan. Yet at the end, Roy ended his life showing compassion/humanity to Deckard. Beautiful...just beautiful.
@oliasdoug it is the most powerful ciminatic scene in any film for those reasons. All the beautiful things Roy has seen in his life mean nothing to anyone but him as he is the only one to experiance them. Imagine all the amazing things you have and will see in your life that you cannot explain to anyone else. Memory is one of the most amazing gifts possesed by the human mind.
A bit more subtle is not possible? You know people have imagination, you don't need to show a cheesy woman with tears when Roy speaks about tears. Also, if you want to relax to this scene, I wonder if you're dead already.
In the extras on Blade Runner special Ed DVD, Rutger Hauer reveals how much he was into playing the character of Roy Batty; he came up with the words to his departing monologue ".. like tears in the rain" himself.
You know the most direct definition of Science is 'Knowledge of our Universe'
And the center of all storytelling is Experience- 'What we all go through in our existance'
Knowledge & experience should go and-in-hand while doing sci-fi. Be about ideas in stories exploring who we are in the universe, characters experiencing in such extremes like nothing in our current world. Not just provide high-tech products as an excuse for just cooler scenery & action.
"Pushkar" has never played the same melody twice . While playing he listens with the heart rather than looking at notes .cd 's."Silent Explosion" - One fine morning - Ding - Inner Harvest ... L'have them all ... Also the songs from Vangelis ...beautiful video . Thanks !
Son's of 80's...only now i realized what does it means...the future see with 80's eyes...only now i realized...yeah only a film...yep only a movie...sorry for my english...my was only a message in a bottle.,.only a fucking message
science fiction is so beautiful. it stretches our imagination but in doing so we realize the beauty of our core fundamentals. there are some things that we just know and feel that will always stay true to us...
Somethings not scripted turns out to be immortal. I really love Hauer's last monologue. Another thing perhaps as not as genial as this is Catherine Schell's not scripted gigglings in The Return Of The Pink Panther but still it just fits in with the mood of the movie.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire on the shoulders of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.
Freeze vid @ 7:46 you see physical form evaporate before camera Freeze vid @ 7:47 you clearly see form continued to dissipation as artifact initiates @ 7:48 without distortion you see his image disappear As the Ball of Light moves up you can see residual effects of light on video THIS IS NOT CGI Freeze vid @ 8:54 You see the human form of Jonathan made of bluish white light
Rutger Hauer ad-libbed most of that speech too. It was originally much longer, but he said to Ridley Scott, that the guy is running out of time, so it should be shorter. He used some of the original words and came up with the last three lines himself.
Very close... he did not strictly 'ad-lib' it as he penned his dying words before performing them (or so I was told, so could be misinformed i admit). Still a genius for making that scene what it is... a classic cinema moment... it gets me every time... I well up, sometimes shedding a single tear myself.
My Fav Sci fy scene...sooo nice the music and the words...everything we all know one day will be much as he says " Tears in The Rain" heres to us and heres to now :)
Awesome post.......hearing Rutger Hauer speak Roy Batty's final words to this music still sends a shiver down my spine every time even after all this time. Vangelis Captures the moment beautifully.
@Morethanbobsonofbob more human than human what a concept man strives to make the perfect world the perfect lifeform...our imperfections are what make us perfect.the variations the improbabilty of the outcome, the world we live in were life ends and begins in continum. a world lost somewhere in an infininte universe

There is still hope of you seeing it in the cinema, they sometimes play it on special occasions, so keep an eye out.

Thanks for sharing this marvellous piece of music. By the way, your video is also a nice piece of work. Good and fine background pictures you have used.
If you like this video, I think you'd like my other ones. They are basically the same: still pictures with beautiful background music. I believe that when those two elements are combined, they create something far more powerful than words or video could ever be.

I didn't say you had to think in the context of the movie.
Vangelis, his music is so flexible that you can use it in another soundscape, not
necessary in Bladerunner alone.
It would be a good cinematic exercise to
put it into another SF-movie or make an
SF-short with his music in it.

That's fortunate for those who live in the U.S.or the U.K., where SciFi-retrospectives are the usual, but not
for mainland Europe.
Unfortunately enough the Benelux-countries do not have as much avid SciFi-fans with enough clout to organise a local viewing of BladeRunner.
I would jump to the occasion.
I take my hat off to you for collecting so
much memorabilia of this film.
To me it is mostely the cinematography
that interrests me.

If you like this video, I think you'd like my other ones. They are basically the same: still pictures with beautiful background music. I believe that when those two elements are combined, they create something far more powerful than words or video could ever be.
