The problem is they don't often do it properly, most are done at home my family members and often the whole clitoris is removed. so that is like cutting off the complete head of the penis. So there is a little difference, but I agree both are stupid and both should stop.

It's truly a horrific practice regardless of the gender of the child. I'm of the opinion that if people want to mutilate themselves that's fine, weird but fine. Thus people should be allowed to choose said procedure when they are of legal age to make decisions about their body. The fact that in some cases they remove the clitoris as well is just irredeemable. It is akin to removing the tip of the penis in male circumcision, and EVERYONE freaks when they hear of that happening.

I don't get why people are comparing this to male circumcision.
1) Normal circumcision happens when you are a baby, so no one can remember it.
2) I heard with this they cut off the girls clits...which is hella fucked up. Thats like getting half your dick chopped off instead of just some skin.
Normal circumcision is kind of fucked up too but this is really bad. This girl can feel everything and she will remember cause she is older. Plus she will never feel pleasure right. Some "Mom."

@goonodeath I don't think the ethical problem lies in whether they remember it or the extent of the mutilation. It's a human rights issue. It's forced unnecessary surgical body modification done for aesthetics or cultural reasons. FGM of course in it's extreme form tends to be much more debilitating than male circumcision, but the central issue is deeper than that.
