  • Also kick boxers and fighters are recomended PRK cause of it's stability and it's a better sergery than LASIK no probable flap displacement and if you get kicked or hit in the eye you won't go blind since your afighter not a pilotjust go PRK or epi LASIK I think it is. Tell your eye doc too that you fight he will recomend PRK or ect not standard or interlase LASIK

  • I heard that kick boxers and air pilots are only recomended PRK but do one eye at a time if your afraid of tge 3-5 month healing period the more nearsighted eye is going to take closer to 4 or 5 months to heal they may choose though to slightly under do it so u can read I told them I wanted 20/20 in my left and 20/15 in my right and they did it lol but do remember it can take up to 6 months to a full year for full recovery and tge eye dryness lasted a year and a half but no regrets here

  • Would you suggest PRK to someone who's an MMA fighter?

I'm still unsure if the UFC allows contacts or not.

Either way, I don't want mine knocked out.

I have 2.75 vision in my left eye, and 3.75 in the right.

I've heard PRK is better for people in contact sports than lasik.

My eyes are so dry and itchy with contacts.

  • I didn't have any night vision before the prk. I had bad eye sight I kinda slept in my lenses and had to have the procedure from

  • Lol what I meant is the eye dryness n discomfort I have 2 years later isn't as bad as it was 3 years ago with dry contacts n burning eyes that I'll never miss I checked the other day my right eye saw the 20/13 line my left 20/20 I'm overly satified with my outcome :)

  • How do you see at night or low light conditions? Can you drive, easy or it's harder than with glasses or contacts before.

  • I had prk December 2009. I'm also happy with no regrets. Yes I do have eye dryness n eye pain but it is nothing like the pain and discomfort of contacts and the emotional stigma of thick ugly glasses. I am now about 20/20 left eye 20/13 in my right and can read fine print at 3 to even 10 feet away a big wow

  • @jdmit75 You are happy with dryness and eye pain? Oh dear God, no wonder this procedure continues to go on, who knows how many people have some side effects and issues after surgery, but report they are happy, and thus almost all patients are happy. Then people who think it will give them normal clear painless vision do it, and regret doing it.

  • the latest you can check from here prkrecovery(.)net

  • hi man.

    whats the latest :-) ?

  • Thanks man, your journals really helped me to decide. I am also a candidate for prk and not for lasik, coz of my thinner corneal flap. I was worried if I should really go for it. You centainly seem to have more experience and thanks for sharing.

  • @praddil You should still be worried, prk is surgery just like lasik, just different approach, in the end laser needst to ablate tissue of cornea like in lasik. And here's my experience, i've done it, and regret it. I ghot all bad nightvision and lowlight issues. It's not clear and comfortable as before. No matter how good surgeon or candidate you are, there is some random parts in this surgery, and you could end up badly.

  • Thank you for the info : )

  • Thank u!! I get mine next week. I've been reading lots online and a little nervous. Your stoey is one that makes me feel more calm. Hearing you say totally worth it helps. :-)

  • @cinsta8 IF YOU CAN DO LASIK DO IT. DONT DO LASEK I AM 1 WEEK AFTER LASEK AND I CANT SEE ANYTHING.

  • You are obviously one of the misinformed population. Your eyes do not get 20/20 by 10 days. The worse your eyes were before the surgery, the more time it takes for your eyes to heal. PRK healing goes upto 1 year. And during healing time, you are supposed to put corticosteroid eyedrops to slow down regression.

Also you are terribly misinformed about 500 dollar an eye. There is no surgeon who will take 500 for prk. If they do, it's mostly scam.

There are websites that tell you the real pros a

  • Can you not see after the procedure or your good to go right after your done? That and i read anything less than 2000 $ each eye is risky.

  • Congrats on your success, Mark. I watched all 3 journal videos and must say it was VERY well documented. I'm not seeking corrective eye surgery, myself. But, if I were, watching your experiences with PRK would have been of comfort by making the process seem far less intimidating. I will recommend this to others. I hope you healed well through your accident injury, as well. :)

  • safer is better

  • noo prk

  • ill go with lasik

  • I've been considering this procedure, this post was a great overview of the process and it is really excellent info. Thank you for posting.

  • Thank you so much for the details...I am having a PRK done tomorrow

  • I`m having mine done in 3 weeks. I know every organism is different, but can you give me any piece of advice regarding the pain-management? Period of recovery?

  • Hey thanks alot for putting this up. Question for you Do you have any vision problems at night or any light sensitivity etc? This seems really perfect your results, im glad for you.

  • I'm terrified.

  • I did PRK 3 years ago when I was 28 i had glases of -1.75. after a year it started to go up now i m wearing contact lenses of -2.25 and they make the cornia thinner SO DONT DO IT

  • thanks for making this video

  • great. i think you covered everything there. what was the name and location of your clinic and name of doctor?

  • guys i hope somebody give me an answer ... i made the no touch PRK surgery a month ago and i'm still having some visual problems specially at night , my right eye is still blurry and i see light rays at night but the left one is 15/20 .. is that ok in such surgery or what ?????

  • I got mine about two weeks ago and I can see well, but not as well as I did with my glasses. Pain was not too much of an issue for me except for a couple of days after the surgery. Dry eyes was not an issue either. I am anxious if my vision will improve any more - I know it takes months but most diaries I have read say that they were getting close to perfect results within two weeks. I did miss a couple of days of medication and hopped on my computer on day 2, and I feel horrible for doing that.

  • I am having the same thing! Got PRK done two weeks ago, no real pain, everything was OK, but after two weeks I still see blurry, or kind double-sighted....it has been a month ago you wrote this comment, can you tell me how your eyes are doing now? Can you see clearly already?

  • @xxxAngelikaxxx Well, some diaries I read said that the daily improvements are so minute that its impossible to notice them. My vision is pretty decent as of now - I have an appointment today so I will know exactly what my current prescription is. I still see halos (ghosting) all the time, especially at night, but it is suppose to be like this for up to three months after the surgery.

  • THank you for answering. Today for some hours my right eye was pretty clear but then it went back to being blurry so I hoep this means it will improve...I have my appointment, check up on 17th only...

  • @xxxAngelikaxxx No problem. The doc told me that my eyes individually are pretty blurry but with both eyes the vision is 20/25. Not perfect but acceptable I guess. They prescribed more eye drops because apparently my eyes are very dry. Also keep in mind that when they take out the temporary contacts your vision gets worse for a few days so be prepared for that as well.

  • thanks so much for sharing your experience Mark, I am having a PRK in three days and this definitely helps, feel much better now !

  • i heard that layer dont grow back if they mess up during cutting. it kind of an organ that doesnt regenarate. or its nonsense?

  • $800 dollars an eye? that's with not bad prescriptions. mine in canada are $1600 an eye. joy. i'm still debating whether or not to do it. i don't think i will. i have three risk factors: high prescription, think corneas and large pupils.

  • Surely everyone knows that its called the Cornea? Looool

  • go Canada ! lol

  • I got a grade of -3.25 on both eyes n im a student pilot....i mean do u think PRK surgery is safe? hw abt the pain? hw abt vision durin night tym...n halos do u get to see that? n does the dry eye remain permanent?

  • Helo Mark....This is dan....i saw ur vids of the prk n have alot of questions for u...if u can pls answer me if u have tym cz i need to kno since ill be takin PRK too ater 2 weeks...!!

Im 19 n got thin corneas n the doc has suggested for me to take PRK...well durin the surgery wen they let kp ur eyes open wid the lid...dont u feel like blinkin or tears wana come out?? n wat is the discomfort? is PRK really gud...do u get to see glares n wat abt dry eyes?? n hwz the vision durin the night?

  • What do you mean contact lenses on your eye? Will it hurt to get it off? What are the chances of getting totally blind? I have halos at night.

  • Why did you get PRK surgery and not the regular Lasik? What was the status of your eyes before the surgery? Ie., were your corneas thin, a really strong prescription?

I'm scheduled to get it next week but I'm starting to have doubts from seeing videos about ectasia, etc.. since I was told I have a really thin cornea...

  • @3tealeaf I had thin corneas so the Lasik was not an option for me. Don't sweat it. You'll be happy you did it.

  • @MarkandJanna well, i dunno. sometimes the surgeons fuck up

my step-dad had i think a cataraks. then he got laser eye surgury and now he even more blind D:

  • Thanks this helped alot

  • Hi , thank u for uploading those videos about ur surgery , i'm having the prk surgery next week here in San Diego , and i'm scared to death , i have about -4.5 on both eyes and some astigmatism , my doctor told me that i can't have lasik for some reasons that's why i'm having PRK next wednesday ...

i'm frightened actually , but listenning to u is comforting so thanks ...

i hope i'll come back and tell u guys another success story .... wish me luck please ......

  • i'm so glad i play the guitar, whenever i get laser eye surgery, i'm gonna play my guitar while i recover. i just hope i don't freak out like i did with the first contacts i ever put on. my vision isn't very bad(my brother has terrible vision) but it is definitely not perfect(i can't see the big E without a lens on an eye test). i have astigmatism, but my contact prescription hasn't changed in 3 years(my glasses change though). i don't know if my cornea is suited for prk or lasik though.

  • how long can you retain your 20/20 vision?

  • I had my eyes done in Victoria Canada. Dont remember the doctors name, sorry.

  • Could you possibly tell me where you had this procedure done and by which doctor?

  • Thanks for this video. I'll be getting PRK in a couple of months and it's great to hear that you think its worth it. I'm very nervous about the procedure, but hopefully the Valium will help!

  • dude answer me please y just got my prk surgery yesterday morning ad my eyes are fuck"#ng burning....... this hurts a lot..i cant stand the light..plese tell how long should i wait so that i can see ok and the pain goes away...i see all blur by the way

  • I paid 200 dollars for both eyes Total...with eye plan. I used Lasik though.

  • I paid 200 dollars for both eyes Total...with eye plan.

  • great video , in depth and given me some needed answers to Qs i had, definately look into it - fortunately im not a cop too lol

  • I'm scared of doing the PRK because of the side effects that can happen....

  • prk messed my eyes up.

  • Great video.. I had PRK 6 weeks ago and didn't heal nearly as fast. My left is now perfect and my right is close but still somewhat blurry. But the first week sucked, couldn't see much and it hurt. But it did heal and love it now

  • what was your prescription prior to the surgery? i am considering getting PRK myself and i am pretty nervous about it.

  • Thank you for the video. I'me about to go through PRK surgery un 2 days! I'm very nervous but you calmed me down a bit. From what I know the contact lense is taken off after 5-7 days and not 3 days. Another thing is that today at least, a laser removes the epithelium (outer layer of the cornea) so it's ever more percise and safe.

    Cheers

  • I heard the Flap cut during LASIK doesnt heal .. . . is that true

  • How is your close vision for reading and computer work?

  • @senorchino

    very good question

my friend wanted to have surgery but doctor said you will have to wear glasses to read after that . . .

  • how old do u hav to be to get laser eye surgery performed on u?

  • Hey Mark, I just wanted to thank you for posting both of your videos. They are very informative and interesting to watch. I am glad your eyes are 20/20. I was considering Lasik and as a result of watching your videos I feel much more at ease to do the procedure. Enjoy your positive results. Thanks again.

  • i assume theres the option of getting prk over lasik, i want to be in the military, and need laser eye surgery for the branch i want to be in, and i obviously don't know what i would be a candidate for, but i am being drawn over to getting prk over lasik, that is if it doesn't change into something else, or there's a different option in about 4 or 5 years

  • gain another 200 lbs and you could be kevin smith's twin.

  • problem with lasik is the flap never fully heals - severe force can dislodge the flap years after the surgery.. PRK is safer.

  • You sound just like George Lucas lol

  • I didnt know Ray Liotta had PRK XD

  • Thx

  • Quick question actually...Where did u do your surgury? and Which company did this surguryÉ

  • Thanks for the video. I have to clarify, though, you are confusing the epithelium with the cornea. The membrane removed in PRK is NOT the same thing as the "flap" in LASIK. In PRK they only remove the epithelium, or the thin membrane OVER the cornea. With LASIK they cut the flap INTO the cornea itself, much deeper than the epithelium, and use the laser to remove tissue from the inside of the cornea. The epithelium regrows in days, while the LASIK flap would never regrow if removed.

  • Very informative. Much appreciated.

  • Thanks for the video!

Going in tomorrow and it made me feel a lot better than your surgery vid! Cheers...

  • i m going to have the prk surgery in two weeks in greece - europe... i am a little nervous but i hope to have great results as you do! i am worried about the first 2-3 days but i think i can handle it.... thanks for the info...

  • it can't be too great if you end up in a car accident =P only kidding.. any other type of methods? i want to get this done by both look horrid... one is cutting the thin layer of skin while the other is rubbing against it ... a lot in a unprofessional manner( saw a video on youtube of it.. i sure hope it's the one where u spin that machine thing and remove the layer then laser and thats it... )any extra charge for stigmatism? i just know someone will want to charge more intentionally

  • I dont know of any other method. Like any surgery it can give you the creeps but as I keep saying its well worth it. No extra charge for astigmatism. One charge for the procedure.

  • what eye condition did you have before you had the surgery

  • I had an astigmatism and was nearsighted.

  • @MarkandJanna

    how bad was your eyesight?

  • What are the chance to go blind after one of these surgerys? 99.99% for succes and 00.01 for blindness :D but really what are the chances

  • @garn100 not worth the risk broseph

  • Thats your opinion. Having gone through it I think its worth the risk as it is a total life changer.

  • @MarkandJanna Yeah I know but I know some people like you have success with it but I don't want to be one of the dudes that gets messed up.

  • at what time after the surgery you can tolerate smoke or smoking

  • I dont smoke but your eyes are sensitive for about 3-4 days.

  • My vision is -5.00. Can i do PRK operation with vision like that? :)

  • sure you can

  • Dont be silly fo course you can the max is -9.00.

  • thats 100 percent true about the millitary using prk. you can accually be denied airborne school and other jobs like that if you have lasik because the force of the chute opening can damage the eye like he said.

  • Although i am only 13, how long did it take for you to see even better than your glasses after the surgery? Or, see the same with glasses?

  • just a few days.

  • does your wife occasionally have dry eyes after her lasik even now?

  • No she never has dry eye.

  • funny you mentioned the dentist... i just had lasik.. (and yes dry eyes... poo) and now i have teeth issues :(

  • if eyes grow do they see better or worse or same

  • wanna do this too. But a bit later. Because im 18 right now. And my eye's grows maybe. I think :/

  • Whats a good age to get PRK sugery?

  • I believe any age after 18 is good or once your eye stops growing.

  • have you had any vision issues such as glare or halo's or trouble seeing at night time? thanx

  • No I've had no problems except a bit of dry eyes.

  • wow thank you so much for posting the videos i never knew about the PRK surgery!

  • Glad you liked it.

  • Did you had a car accident because of bad vision?

  • No the other driver was at fault. It had nothing to do with my surgery.

  • I had PRK as well with TLC. Jun of 06, I'm 99% satisfied, your night vision will get effected slightly lights seem a tad brighter and you may a slight grey tinting from time to time and you will have dry feeling occasionally but having said that, waaaaaaaaaaaaay better than glasses, for about 1000 reasons.

  • Thank you for this video, it was really informative, But can you please tell me your myopia before surgery

  • Sorry I dont have those numbers any longer. My sight wasn't really bad but bad enough that I couldn't read street signs while driving. Now that is no problem for me.

  • Oh well, thanks for the reply. My vision is a -6 nearsightedness with some astigmatism. I am not able to read a book without glasses. And the scariest part is that im only 15.

  • @MarkandJanna i think mine is same as ur i can see everything but i cant see car numberplate from 20 meter its blurry. i am 17 at the moment do you think i should get le=aser eye treatment.

  • £395 per eye in the UK, that's the minimum price per eye, i think =P ( saw it on an advert )

  • Thanks for doing both videos. It's prompted me to get my own eyes done finally. Thank you!

  • Glad you found it useful.

  • Wow that is expensive. Hopefully everyone is paid more in Europe to make up for the price difference.

  • Thanks for both the first video and this update. I've been hedging on having this done, but your videos have pushed me to make my appointment. Thanks!

  • I want this surgery too. But it is expensive in Europe ( About 3000 euros for both eyes).
