  • Now a comment on topic:

My only criticism of this otherwise well made documentary is some of the language/terms used.

    Namely being:

1: In part 3 the narrator refers to the British Army rank, Brigadier as, "Brigadier General". Fact, it’s never been a general rank in the British Army.

2: The documentary throughout all 3 parts refers to the Ottomans as the Turks. That's historically & factually misleading. The Turks only made up roughly half (if I’m not mistaken) the Ottoman population.

  • What does US politics of today have anything thing to do with a war in the 1800s that had nothing to do with the US?

Really guys get on topic or don't make comments.

  • what is the song at 4:31?

  • seems like a good documentary

though I have to say, the narrators' voices are simply obnoxious

we understand that you're British, but there's no need to speak in the most pretentious accent possible (from such a great nation, Britain)

I'm not criticizing British accents, just these two...especially the woman

    haha

  • 42:54 Hey, what the hell is this massed infantry???? Original form crimean war? Or some kind of inscenation after war? I dont belive, its original! Thats the pity, that no photography streight from action exists!!! For example some pics drom a high hill down to valey of massacre... it would be soooo much interesting...

  • "it's a funny sort of pleasure to see people killing each other, and yet every morning and every evening I would get up on my cart and watch hours at a time watching, the spectacle was truly beautiful" Guy's a degenerate.

    41:58 lol?

  • Oh darn, it's in English. That means it's crap.

  • @toqtaqiya dont trust on american "documentaries", but this is english

  • KIll the Ottomans, god bless the Tsar ...

  • Everybody speaks about the problems of the russian and allied soldier. No one says a word about the suffering caused by these nations to the Romanian nation. At the beginning of the war russian occupied romanian states, then the ottomans, then russian again and at last austrian. The war was fought on the land of a people that has nothing with the ambition of great power, but had to pay the bill

  • @calindicusar ohh really.. this is a true tragic romanian shit, but what about the Indians, do they still exist ? oh yes, I know - happyness in buchenwaldervation...

  • @MojoHead96

    объявился тролль

  • @calindicusar от трололо слышу.

  • Actually France wanted and arrived to keep the rule in the holly land and is so much at the "origin" of the war than this(good)british documentary pretend.

  • @andydinsdale I just dislike her voice and her articulation, it has nothing to do with what she says.

  • @Agathoudaimon

It was made in 1997, there are some credits on the end which give you some info.

Part 2 is on youtube as well.

  • The Europeans failed to learn from their mistakes in this war, and bumbled into an even worse one beginning in 1914. They then followed that up with an even worse war beginning in 1939. After that, the Europeans decided that their biggest enemy in the world is the United States, a view which dominates European leftists (i.e. a majority of Europeans) to this day.

  • @thomasjefferson6

America is a threat to any country in the world that wants to be sovereign and independent. It continually interferes in the internal affairs of sovereign nations, tries to stir up conflict by supporting one group against the 'regime', and when that fails they try to wreck economies with sanctions and depriving countries of fair access to world markets. OR they just flat our invade the country, ie Panama, Grenada, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan

    Down with America

  • @Crosmando Someone sounds jealous they live in a second rate country with noting to offer the world but whining.

How about you make your country suck less and stop bitching about mine.

  • @MultiUniv3rsal

I'm actually Australian, a country which didn't have to suffer because the American capitalists and their greed, which caused the banking crash some years back. But the fact remains, America as a country (this goes for all capitalist countries too) is only artificially rich, look at the shirt on your back, no doubt made in some sweat shop in China. America's living standards are inflated by their exploitation of poor people, both abroad and in their own territory

  • @Crosmando Not really true, outsourcing didnt gain ground until the 70s. Until then most economic growth was based on production within the US itself

The Chinese and other developing countries are thriving making tshirts for westernes. its a win win for both worlds. So stop whine

  • @Crosmando Jesus... Please research The Fair Housing Act, (Which at it's core, sounds awesome, but in practice ended up putting TONS of lower income Americans into a house and under a gigantic mortgage that they couldn't afford) instituted by under the Clinton administration in the mid 90's.

This law is the root of the housing collapse in the late 00's. This was NOT a capitalist policy.

I'm not in the habit of picking teams, and calling the other team stupid, I want truth.

  • @Figsak

That IS a capitalist policy, because it was a law passed within a capitalist country, passed by a capitalist legislature.

And either way, the American policy of trying to make workers into small-capitalists through mortgaging their future to banks, is a capitalist policy. The American ruling class consented to taxation to create the "middle-class", only to put a strong wall between themselves at the top and the poor at the bottom.

  • @Crosmando You don't fully understand how our governmental system works. We have a 2 party system. The Democratic party (Which is like a European socialist party), and the Republican party (Which is the capitalist pigs you despise). We have PLENTY of socialist policies (e.g. Social Security and Medicare) enacted in our capitalist system ALL the time. We don't have a full free market capitalist system as many seem to think. Yes, mortgages are retarded (I should know, I have one :( ).

  • @Figsak btw just want to point out that the Democrats are no where near a european socialist party, more like a slightly more right leaning UK Conservative Party, & the Republicans are considered far Right. :)

  • @JimBCameron I disagree entirely, based on many elected officials in the Democratic Party ACTUALLY being current or former American Socialist Party members (approximately 70 U.S. Congressmen, as of 2009, according to an ASP newsletter). If you Google that newsletter, you'll find they list each name. The current GOP party, weirdly resembles the Dem party from 50yrs ago.

Most Americans (Like myself) have hybrid values, and subscribe to neither party.

  • @Figsak My point was that US politics are far more right leaning than Europe & therefore the 'middle ground' is similarly fought & perceived far more on the right than you'd find in europe. To make a stand too far from the perceived middle ground is more likely to be considered extreme, therefore advocating what would be considered centre-left policies in europe, in the US would be considered left or far left in many instances?

  • @JimBCameron Fair enough. Though what tends to happen, is that Democrats actually model proposed policies after European socialist policies. They see it in practice, like the mechanics of it, and start trying to put it into effect here. One such example would be Carbon Credits.

The true issue is that in America, calling yourself a socialist is a VERY bad word, so many socialists choose to wear the label democrat.

It works the same with Libertarians, they're forced to claim GOP.

  • @Figsak I think Libertarian is changing. That people see Ron Paul as a Libertarian instead of Sarah Palin or Glenn Beck.

Socialist is also changing as Americans look to Europe(Scandinavia)

  • @rangergxi Mostly because Ron Paul actually was a registered Libertarian, running for president back in the late 80's as a Libertarian party candidate.

Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck are too hawkish on foreign policy, and don't support legalizing things like weed, so I wouldn't consider them as a typical Libertarian.

A true Libertarian supports individual freedoms above all else, and the ability to go home and drink a beer or smoke a joint in the privacy of your own home embodies that.

  • @Figsak Im a Libertarian for the most part but I do believe in the state providing Pensions, Universal healthcare, enforcing safety regulations, etc

    I oppose subsidizing things and intervention(bailouts) 100%

  • @rangergxi State pensions and universal healthcare simply isn't something a government can afford to do without taxation on a level that would cripple a normal family. Without those 2 things, the U.S. government is nearly bankrupting itself paying for the social programs already in place. You would no longer be working to improve your own life, you'd basically be a slave to the state.

Greece is a prime example of what becomes of epic social entitlements that are unaffordable

  • @Crosmando

just certain sectors of the gov. and big business..the american people will be with mixed views...some for "aggressive practices"...and others "not"...i myself feel we should withdraw all our troops; and most americans( 90% + feel this way)..

  • Comment removed

  • @Crosmando

i also feel that we should drop the doctrines adopted after ww2..(no more policing the world.! doctrine )...the world should police the world....let every one else participate. while the u.s. start retracting the military and once again become a centralized country...

  • @Crosmando correction; with any government/dictatorship that wants to be sovereign and suppresive

  • @thomasjefferson6 That's a pretty concise worldview you've got there.

  • i smoke weed who gives the flying fuck mate.

  • @usnavysss uneducated people with a low culturel inheritage

  • @inpersonaDK

    allow to fix culturAl

  • @NormanLowell You are a fucking cunt of the highest order. I've read up on you, and what you believe in. And it disgusts me. As soon as your ideologys fade into dust the world will be a better place. Eventually the white race will become a race mixed with the rest of the world, who gives a fuck. It's not the 14th century. We travel and people move from where they are born.

  • This shit is bad to watch for kids , they are exposed to drugs techniques, like smoking weed from pipe , injecting heroine through the ass by a Russian solidier

  • @timetosmokeup

Exactly right. And anyway, a bit of violence never hurt anyone.

I blame marijuana cigarettes for all those who fell at Sebastapol..

  • Tim Pigot Smith is the best of these narrators

  • i dotn like when women narrate

  • @raeviliss3 agreed

  • That war wasnt fair at all

  • @dangar45 war is never fair =(

  • Ambient musics sound like from game Cossacks.
