My dog's a collie mix and our vet told us to always make her work for her treats, even if it's just a trick. She's got a puzzle ball that she loves. Intelligent dogs get bored quickly, just like humans.
Man, that's one well-trained dog. Most would just jump onto the counter!
"I cant get the....ok, I've almost....no..no...no...DANG it....give me the treat....Daaaaaaaaaaad.....come on, stop playin.....please...if only I could put my feet on the tab-HA GOT IT" runs off to corner
The kind of people who think this is cruel probably think treat/puzzle balls are cruel too! Grey hounds are intelligent and need things to stimulate it's thinking process (if not running the 45-couch potato bit). The owner never put it out of the dog's reach to tease it, it just needed to figure out (like at the end) that it needed to use its tongue to get the treat.
I was rooting for him the whole time, I was all "Use your tongue! Use your tongue! NOO" I cheered when he got it.
Uh, wait a minute: how is this greyhound being "tormented?" This is a game. hound has to figure out how to get the treat. The men are not snatching it away from the dog, or giving her/him an impossible challenge. The dog does not appear to be under any duress. I really believe it is far more satisfying for a dog to have to work for a treat than to be simply handed one.
I have to say I felt really sorry for your beautiful greyhound. It amazes me how some people get a kick out of tormenting their dogs. I have a greyhound so I know what loving, gentle creatures they are, if they had a different temperament then I think you would probably end up with a rather pissed off and aggressive dog if you carried on tormenting it like that. Try treating your hound with some respect, he deserves it.
you have the wrong sort of collar m8 ask at your local pet store for a greyhound collar and if you cant get one please put that one high up the dogs neck as that is the skinniest and most comfortable part or the dogs neck its easier for you and for him/her but apart from that its beautfully marked look after it!
he was definetely determined, not distressed like tkgaz32 said. I think its soooo cute, i see nothing wrong with it, it was just a little treat, not like he was starving and they were denying him a whole meal, sheesh!
Everyone. It's hardly as if the dog's only hope for getting something to eat is to get that treat. Stop complaining about how cruel it is.
Anyway. It's a cute video. My greyhound (now deceased D=)would have probably just walked away and waited for me to give in and throw the treat to her. Which I would have. XD
It's actually positive to have a dog work for his rewards - I work with rescued greyhounds and this one wasn't distressed, just determined. I love the markings on this dog - the brown on his white head looks like a toupee...
That's great, not cruel in the slightest, the dog wasn't distressed at all. He was just trying to work out how to get the treat. It does them good to have to work things out sometimes, in the wild food isn't handed to them on a plate and it's good for them to use the skills they have by instinct.

Why do people set their animals up like this? I don't mean to be rude or confrontational, just do want to know why. & grown men & women do it,not a bunch of 8 year olds. & I bet that greyt dog was either trained to not counter surf,or because of his own good manners, just doesn't. I just don't get that crap. The biscuit's going to move away from him over and over again. Why put him in such a postion?
dang it! give it to him! lol i cant take it anymore. My cat feels insulted by treats esp if given like that lol. He will do what you want him to do without treats. However, his treat is us eating and sleeping at the same time, sometimes I make roasted turkey for him or if i cook a dish. My cat sleeps like a greyhound. He spends more time sleeping (whatever happened to the word "cat nap")than hunting.
not a very smart dog

LOL...what a smart dog... T_T....It took him more than 1 min to get the treat...

some people, particulary men get a kick out of this sort of behaviour, they do it with their children too.
I hope they don't give it chocolate as it can kill.

Hilarious.
