When I first saw this and this song popped up, me and my BFF freaked out and I was like "What. The. Frick." I'm NEVER going to think of this song in the same calming way again. I'm just going to think of being held up by a horror film contraption in a torture chamber until, Lisbeth comes in to save me.
I chuckled to my self when I first viewed this scene in the theaters, then I heard the yale students chuckle too; it reminded me of how Singing in the Rain was used in A Clockwork Orange.
Also, this scene and the impending torture, which is stopped, made me think of SAW.
GWTDT is a great film. Even though, I feel the director references other movies, this movie is original and stands as its own creation.
i gotta admit, the complete inappropriateness of this song in the given situation and how martin casually switched it on, combined with craig strung up and STILL holding that damn glass of whiskey made me chuckle.
Such an interesting variation in responses to this song being used in this scene! Funny? I didn't find it funny at all. Horrifying? Yes. Disturbingly odd? Yes. Uneasily appropriate? Yes. I think if you laughed during this scene you have disappointed the filmmakers and misinterpreted their dramatic intentions. Also, you might easily be diagnosed with Sadistic Personality Disorder. :-I
Of course the song I fell asleep to as an infant and listened to growing up would now mark one of the most iconic scenes in one of my favorite movies.
wow! i know ur probaly goth or something! but ur a fuckin' douche bag! and i mean douche lord of all the douche's, what a BITCH! u are:)

a big smile came across my face during this scene. Back in the 90s when i was a kid a commercial for Enya's cd would air with this song.

I really like how he's holding her like he's protecting her or something, but in the movie it's the opposite lol

The thing I find crazy about this is that it's the first time the song has been used in a feature film.

This is the equivalent of Phil Collins - Sussudio in American Psycho.

@Scrumpilump2000 There's another angle I forgot. A quote to illustrate: "They had to laugh, otherwise it would be too terrifying." (Bukowski).

I wish that when Lisbeth comes and hits Martin there would've been a close up on his face just to see the eyes and teeth.
