In those SIXTEEN seconds, he leaves the courtroom, takes a picture (and does a good job), hooks the camera up to a camera or printer, prints the picture of the guy, and then comes back into the courtroom? Just how much did they edit out?

My friends cousin was on one of those makeover shows and they had her wear things she wouldn't be caught dead in, just to say this was how she dressed before. All her "Friends" were actors that she never met. She had one friend that wasn't even allowed to be taped and had her substituted with a more lively actor (better character for TV). Some shows may start "Real", but then producers get a hold of the show..
