The main part of **making** the game is all of the programming... It all seems VERY good.

Graphics and sounds are like... icing. There are some games that are all icing and little (if any) cake, but the variables, instances and scripts are really the more important part...... to an extent.

@djrelllik I have no idea why that guy switched to hello engine. The difference between the two is that your engine is actually good. Your physics are a near-perfect replice and you have a fair amount of content, without making it hard to add more. Hello engine is like "herp a derp lets make a shitty platformer engine, throw in mario GFX, and then add a bunch of unimportant shit." Fair enough it's good enough for this who don't really care, but I'll never understand his decision to switch.

This is a great effort, I actually couldn't tell any difference at all. I figured things like sprites, backgrounds and sound effects would be easy to recreate but getting the motion and amount of gravity down so well that it 'feels' like Mario is a great achievement. I tip my hat to you djrelllik

Now try the same in BlitzPlus. Then do it in C++ then you will have an exact replica of the game. Unfortunately Gamemaker doesn't really teach programming...start with blitzplus

@valid4ever even if gamemaker's interface makes it way easier, gml is still an object oriented programming language like any other. Yeah of course I didn't have to code any timing or drawing routine because gm was made to create games. But in the end the result is pretty much the same so I don't really care.

@valid4ever you do know that although game maker doesnt have a fancy name like "Unity3D" and the interface is very simple, the GML is very versatile (spellcheck?) and he was able to create mario. This may sound simple, but program your own mario and lets see it :)

It doesn't need a fancy name. With C++ you need to learn the skills of that and then learn an API such as Allegro, Sdl, and Sfml. There are lots more,but I can;t name off the top of my head ;)

Actually I am working on a game, but I don't know if I will complete it. Back to the point Game Maker is just easier to use and can make games faster, but Game maker has less of a chance to get a job...

@HyperFoxIII damnit, I don't have the code right now so I can't say exactly but it was something like background_x[0] = view_xview[0]/3 background_x[1] = view_xview[0]/4. Anyway play with that, if you know gm a minimum you should be able to understand enough.
