Ha! I couldn't agree more Penn. I was raised Catholic and I saw many men living together. These men were called priests and they all lived together in the rectory.

aw too bad. i have one an hour away and that cant keep me away. lol. i looove ikea. like 80% of my house is done in ikea furniture and its really affordable. have fun on ur 9 hr. trip lol
I just dont understand the statement. I could understand if the statement was that acceptance of homosexuality is essential. Why is homosexuality itself a necessary and indispensable part of living in today's society. I live in today's society and am not homosexual.
Sure, IKEA's a business, they want clients, they can't shun a part of the population that would absolutely buy their stuff. Plus, not all guys that live together are gay, lots of heterosexual guys have roommates, it doesn't make them gay, that's kind of a lame assumption in the first place.
i think it was less about sales but more about IKEA being a European company which has standards and wont conform those standards because of some catholic bastards
It never ceases to amaze me how people think that without religion, somehow people would stop being assholes. If it's true that the Catholic church complained to Ikea about such an ad, then as a Catholic, I would have to disagree with the complaint and also commend Ikea for their graceful, and truthful, response. Penn seems to expect much better behavior from Catholics, which I agree with. This is why I think so-called atheists would in many ways be very good Catholics if they were so inclined.
I disagree with your second sentence, because your imposition against religion is just as bad any religious zeal. Think about it; isn't the desire to wipe out religion just as bad as the desire to shove it down peoples' throats? Can you honestly say that you know what's best for millions of people whom you've never even met, who might possibly understand things that we don't?
Not really. If you have less predetermined beliefs about things you can't possibly know about other people, let alone the universe, then you have less reasons to make bad decisions, including being an asshole to people for bogus reasons.
And as far as your second remark, every time a religious person says that, several atheists laugh. It's remarkable how many times I've heard religious people assert "atheists believe X", where X is an idea I've never heard a single atheist adhere to. The amount of misconceptions and innacurate predetermined opinions is amazing.
The funniest thing is it proves the exact point I was trying to make.
If you think believing something is good equates to believing you should impose it by force then, well, you're really just supporting my point about religious mindsets.
Let's cut to the chase then; do you think that my Catholic belifs are wrong, and that I should stop believing in Christ and God? That I should cease and desist praying, going to church, going to confession, talking with my priest, reading my theology, etc.? Would you like me to stop doing what I wilfully choose to do, just for you; for the sake of joining you and others in believing in nothing, and for the sake of your own idea that the world would be better off without it?
1. Yes, wrong twofold. Wrong in the sense of being are immoral and wrong in the sense of being untrue or lacking enough evidence to even suggest being true.
2. Yes to ceasing prayer and confession, it depends for the others. If you don't actually believe any of it (nor pretend to believe), then there's nothing wrong with doing the other three.
In the same way that there's nothing wrong wanting to visit the Parthenon to see what an amazing building it is, provided you don't support the idea of human sacrifice (which is likely one of the things that happened inside it); listening to Bach or Verdi because it's just good music regardless of the inspirations that created them; studying greek mythology because it would be impossible to understand the Odyssey or the Illiad otherwise. Same would go for the bible and Shakespeare.
3. No, if you became an atheist because someone told you to, it would be just as bad as becoming religious just because your parents told you to. You wouldn't understand _why_ one should (or shouldn't) take that position and would act just as blindly as most people who base their lives in faith do.
I'd rather you listened to both sides of the argument properly, tried to actually understand the objections raised instead of dismissing them, notice not only the number of problems in that religion, but the fact that many others have the exact same problem for exactly the same reasons (which is what you would expect if they were for the most part plagiarisms of each other and themselves based on an amalgamation of ealier, more primitive religions, with very few exceptions),
and then, after seriously thinking about the issues and the arguments, made an attempt at getting to the conclusion that most made sense (not the conclusion that makes you feel good or the way you wish things were), and arrived at atheism.
It would only have any value whatsoever if you (or anyone else, for that matter), got to it in something like that way. "Faith" would corrupt the whole process regardless of what side it was on.
Here in Italy a Cardinal recently went apeshit because of an ad made by Renault (watch?v=NpbA9hRaz5A), which shows a father who has kids from different wives: "New Renault Scenic - We make space for all the families".
According to the Cardinal, rather than reflecting the real and modern society, this ad is "an invite to poligamy" and "an insult to the value of monogamy".
Good for IKEA! I can't remember who it was who calculated the total $ amount legalizing gay marriage would pump (heh) into the American enconomy. It was a large number, nearing a billion. Canada figured this out a long time ago (well, a few years)... Americans will come around eventually...

That anachronic and polluting organization put a gun to its head long ago and pulled the trigger. Right now the bullet is millimeters from hitting, and I want to be in front row to see it collapse.
About 35,000 molested as children by Catholics, come forward in Ireland.
They will not be allowed to sue the Catholic Church, because the Church has control over the courts. We should be careful not to allow that to happen in the States.
I think IKEA may have still been pandering to their customer base. IKEA furniture is meant for very small living spaces in big cities where there is a larger presence of homosexuals. Attracting the Catholic customer is i doubt of much interest to the IKEA corporate folks.
Really awesome, love to hear this. Although I'm not particularly a fan of their put-it-together-yourself furniture, and I own more pieces than I'd like to, hehe, I am very happy to hear this and respect them immensely for it.
Not to say I don't believe you - I do, but I haven't seen the actual letter for myself. Supposing it's true, I'd have to praise Ikea's handling of it, certainly, and it's a fine example to follow. I hope that regardless of the facts in this matter, we're cautious enough as reasonable people not to passionately condemn anyone, much less a whole theology, but to see it as merely erroneous, as Ikea would, and disagree rationally with whomever (Grzegorz Upper?) wrote or published the alleged letter.

what about the Progressive car insurance commercial where two fuckiing homos want to buy progressive fucking car insurance. Then they go home and suck each others dicks and shuve them up there buttholes. What a bunch of fucking homo fags.
Awesome, I agree with you so much (DUH, why else would I keep watching...) businesses shouldn't give a fuck what a religious organization thinks. Lets not cater to there stupidity.
If he does.. he has an extreme case of low self esteem or brainwashing. He needs help from good friends.. badly, before he goes to one of those programming centres they call the "gay curing" clinics, or worse.
Go IKEA! I don't understand why the Catholic church, or indeed anyone should be able to tell people who to love and where someone is allowed to stick his penis. (Providing that both parts are OK with it, of course.)
ok alot of those points are good but a question how can language be bad, besides like improper use of words.. how can one word a sound you make with your mouth be considered worse then another. and fuck you anti drugs and anti alcohol if i wanna drink and do drugs as long as i do not harm someone in the process i should be bale to
Have you ever had a phone call to say that your 20 year old daughter has been rushed into hospital as some one has put drugs into her drink ?
I have.
Have you ever had a phone call to say that your daughters bf has been attacked by a heroin addict and had his jaw broken. Because he wanted his mobile phone.
I have.
And you want legal drugs ?
Doing whats right for society is far more important that what YOU want to do.
no but i have seen my buddy after a crack head jumped and stabbed him, and ive also been robbed at gun point by coke heads ive grown up around crack heads my whole life so don't go acting all superior because you've had a couple bad experiences everyone has, and like i said AS LONG as you do not HURT anyone you should be free to ingest whatever you want in your system... you stupid pompous douche bag
Legalizing drugs will stop the untold millions/billions of dollars wasted incxarcerating innocent US citizens for drug possession and the law enforcement resources dedicated to this crap. Also legalization will reduce crime significantly: dealers and people who commit crimes to pay for their drugs whose prices are artificially inflated due to the fact that they are illegal and must be sold in a dangerous black market (Al Capone lives again, will we never learn.)
When you illegalize something, you associate it with everything else illegal. The quality is also deregulated, since it's illegal. You don't have to look any further than the US prohibition period to see this, where gun fights were rampant and booze could be dangerous to drink. Legalization removes the mafia and gangs from the drug equation and regulates the quality of the drug so it is relatively safer and less potent than its illegalized form.
End the drug war, return the right of personal ownership to the people, be more free. I'm not free if your not free, and your not free if a cocaine user isn't free.
"I thought you would have more sense than to believe that.
I was wrong.
Please explain to me how legal cocaine will benefit society"
Well, for starters it would stop the billions of dollars that flow from US consumers to Mexican drug lords and Afghani warlords. And what do you mean taxes "routine." You don't think billions for US farmers and taxes is better than billions given to our enemies?
Please explain how legal alcohol benefits society.
If it stops crime- it stops the slaughter of innocent crime victims. There is nothing "good" about cocaine. Yet, demand creates supply from illegal channels and the money is very real and the slaughter, murder, jailtime, brokne families, etc. that comes from such a black market is not good either. Removing this dynamic is a real benefit. Once something is legalized, the allure is removed. it's not a perfect solution - just look at the glamour still attached to alcohol by teens/20 somethings.
It´s not like homosexuals are having butt sex in the streets. Not where I live any way. If you have trouble with homosexuals "displaying" their love in public in ways most heterosexual couples do - holding hands, kissing etc. I think you are a bit over sensitive.
For what people do in private...
If it not hurt any one I cant see how it can be wrong?
Sex is by it´s nature quite a slimy business and can be regarded as disgusting by any one that are not in the right mood. It takes quite a bit of hormones to overcome the slimy bit.
So for us heterosexualls it´s quite natural to be a bit "alien" to homo sex and I suspect gay people see hetero sex the same way.
Let's forget religion already! It's amazing how we kowtow to these morons who constantly insert themselves into debates with contributions whose only merit are they mysteriously originated from the imaginary big-daddy-in-the-sky channeled by illiterate, stone-age shepherds. The mention of religion should instantly disqualify you from any debate.
Growing up in Sweden (where IKEA isn't cool, it's the shit you buy when you upgrade from stolen milk crates in college) I'm not surprised. Civil unions have been around for a decade+. Over it. When US Disney said perhaps they shouldn't have a gay voice actor for Scar in The Lion King, It was roughly as if they'd said they didn't want James Earl Jones because he was a nigger. Not that they have a problem, but some people might yakonw. You could almost feel the sinking hearts in the marketing dpt.
Homosexuality is not "essential" to contemporary society, any more than Penn Jillette is "essential" to contemporary magic. Both would exist without either of them.
Penn- Any comment on Ikea's stance on using women in their instruction manuals, or rather their failure to do so until people called them on it, since it upsets the Muslims?
A spokesman for Ikea said: "We have to take account of cultural factors. In Muslim countries its problematic to use women in instruction manuals."
Nice job by IKEA. Someone will try to boycott them now... but they did the right thing. This sort of nonsense belongs in the 11th century, not in 21 century America.
I'ts because a lot of homosexuals buy from IKEA. All of my gay friends rave about IKEA lol. IKEA is trying to (in a small way) differentiate their service for their homosexual and consumers who want greater social integration of homosexuals. Good for IKEA............. increase utility ! :P
non supporters of gays must understand there is a big problem with what they are doing. you don't HAVE TO SUPPORT gay marriage. that's totally unnecessary. but you DO NOT have the right to take others rights away simply because you 'don't support it'. just because you dislike something doesn't mean you get to throw it out. that would be the epitome of arrogance.
I think it was Ford (the car folk) who placed an ad in a gay magazine and when the christian right complained they stopped running ads in that magazine. Fuckin religious people...
"Listen, I stand by what I said. I DON'T SUPPORT GAY MARRIAGE. Go cry me a river."
I simply ask you why you don't support it, and that is your response? LOL.
It's funny how you hold a position and you won't even justify why you hold it.
I bet your the exact same kind of person who would cry a river about not being allowed to get married because of some arbitrary factor if you happened to fall into that demographic. Pathetic.
Yada, yada, yada. I am not against Homosexuality, but I do not support gay marriage. If you would like to talk it over, that is fine; just send me a private message.
Agree, but how are we still helping the Nazis? Please enlighten me cuz as i know it, people in Sweden can't even talk about imigration without calling all cons nazis cause they hate racism so much.

Go to their channels and give them some ratings of your own. And feel free to correct the thumb balance.

I am a atheist.
I have not down thumbed any comments.
I am not a bigot.
I support gay rights.
Its the sex ACT that i don't like.
I am a heterosexual.
As a straight man why would i support the ACT of anal man sex.Its disgusting to me and the majority of straight men.
RETARD.

'I am not a bigot.

Evidence to these claims is lacking in all of your comments.
'As a straight man why would i support the ACT of anal man sex'
I have a better questions. As a straight man, why does the act of 'anal man sex' occupy so much of your mind?

ok alot of those points are good but a question how can language be bad, besides like improper use of words.. how can one word a sound you make with your mouth be considered worse then another. and fuck you anti drugs and anti alcohol if i wanna drink and do drugs as long as i do not harm someone in the process i should be bale to
LakeBodom22 2 years ago
Where do i start ?....
Doing whats right for society is far more important that what YOU want to do.
holdontoyourwig 2 years ago
no but i have seen my buddy after a crack head jumped and stabbed him, and ive also been robbed at gun point by coke heads ive grown up around crack heads my whole life so don't go acting all superior because you've had a couple bad experiences everyone has, and like i said AS LONG as you do not HURT anyone you should be free to ingest whatever you want in your system... you stupid pompous douche bag
LakeBodom22 2 years ago
Doing whats right for society is far more important that what YOU want to do. Legalize it.
HiGregory 2 years ago
And that will do what ?
By simply legalising things does not solve the problem.
Legalising drugs does not stop drug addicts.
It does not improve society in any way.
holdontoyourwig 2 years ago
Legalizing drugs will stop the untold millions/billions of dollars wasted incxarcerating innocent US citizens for drug possession and the law enforcement resources dedicated to this crap. Also legalization will reduce crime significantly: dealers and people who commit crimes to pay for their drugs whose prices are artificially inflated due to the fact that they are illegal and must be sold in a dangerous black market (Al Capone lives again, will we never learn.)
raelchgo 2 years ago
I thought you would have more sense than to believe that.
I was wrong.
Please explain to me how legal cocaine will benefit society.
And please don't start with the "paying taxes on it " routine.
I'm talking about REAL benefits.
holdontoyourwig 2 years ago
>>holdontoyourwig
When you illegalize something, you associate it with everything else illegal. The quality is also deregulated, since it's illegal. You don't have to look any further than the US prohibition period to see this, where gun fights were rampant and booze could be dangerous to drink. Legalization removes the mafia and gangs from the drug equation and regulates the quality of the drug so it is relatively safer and less potent than its illegalized form.
mudbuck 2 years ago
End the drug war, return the right of personal ownership to the people, be more free. I'm not free if your not free, and your not free if a cocaine user isn't free.
strike2inciner8 2 years ago
"I thought you would have more sense than to believe that.
I was wrong.
Please explain to me how legal cocaine will benefit society"
Well, for starters it would stop the billions of dollars that flow from US consumers to Mexican drug lords and Afghani warlords. And what do you mean taxes "routine." You don't think billions for US farmers and taxes is better than billions given to our enemies?
Please explain how legal alcohol benefits society.
sinshine1985 2 years ago
If it stops crime- it stops the slaughter of innocent crime victims. There is nothing "good" about cocaine. Yet, demand creates supply from illegal channels and the money is very real and the slaughter, murder, jailtime, brokne families, etc. that comes from such a black market is not good either. Removing this dynamic is a real benefit. Once something is legalized, the allure is removed. it's not a perfect solution - just look at the glamour still attached to alcohol by teens/20 somethings.
raelchgo 2 years ago
holdon or HiGreg,
Please provide me with the contact information for "society" so that I may discuss its needs and interests with "society" directly.
Unless of course it's just an imaginary construct and the real unit of humanity is the HUMAN BEING. Which is what I suspect to be the case.

There are several heterosexual versions of sexual gameplay I find disgusting even though I´m straight.
But I can not see how that can be any business of mine as long as it only include consenting adults.
Why should I care about what gay people do in private?
Faidros62 2 years ago
I don't care what people do in private.
Its what they do in public that bothers me.
As you said..."There are several heterosexual versions of sexual gameplay I find disgusting even though I´m straight. "

It´s not like homosexuals are having butt sex in the streets. Not where I live any way. If you have trouble with homosexuals "displaying" their love in public in ways most heterosexual couples do - holding hands, kissing etc. I think you are a bit over sensitive.
For what people do in private...
If it not hurt any one I cant see how it can be wrong?
cont.

holdontoyoyrwig
Sex is by it´s nature quite a slimy business and can be regarded as disgusting by any one that are not in the right mood. It takes quite a bit of hormones to overcome the slimy bit.
So for us heterosexualls it´s quite natural to be a bit "alien" to homo sex and I suspect gay people see hetero sex the same way.
It has nothing to do with right or wrong.
Faidros62 2 years ago

Penn- Any comment on Ikea's stance on using women in their instruction manuals, or rather their failure to do so until people called them on it, since it upsets the Muslims?
A spokesman for Ikea said: "We have to take account of cultural factors. In Muslim countries its problematic to use women in instruction manuals."

non supporters of gays must understand there is a big problem with what they are doing. you don't HAVE TO SUPPORT gay marriage. that's totally unnecessary. but you DO NOT have the right to take others rights away simply because you 'don't support it'. just because you dislike something doesn't mean you get to throw it out. that would be the epitome of arrogance.

Pathetic.
KemaTheAtheist 2 years ago
Not exactly, what you did was accused me of "not supporting equal rights." You never asked me why I hold onto that position.
coffeefish 2 years ago
"what you did was accused me of "not supporting equal rights." You never asked me why I hold onto that position."
No... I asked why you don't support gay marriage AND I asked you if you don't support equal rights.
If you do support equal rights, then you would have to support gay marriage because that's what that is about... equal rights for gays.
So which is it?
