I, too, switched to circle hooks a few year ago. It was by virtue of the ill concieved mandate from the fish Police at the SAFMC! I do catch them but do miss a lot of hook-ups as well. But the Liberals seem to know what is best for all of us.
I find circle effective in almost everywhere except when you are much higher than the water like up on a peer or bridge, don't know why but the large difference in height causes them to lose effectiveness and less hookups for me, might be something with how to keep the line out there because of the big difference it is harder to keep it tight. Octupus hooks however suck for me but they aren't really circle hooks.
Here in the Northeast we are not required (yet) to use circle hooks but I am switching to them voluntarily, because they are so effective. I used to have trouble with tautog and scup because I could never get the timing of the hook set right. Now, with circle hooks, the correct time to set the hook is...never!

looks like those circle hooks are working for you, they would work even better if you use a snell knot. happy fishing.
