Thank you so much for these videos! I've been trying to teach myself to crochet but the instructional books are a little confusing at times. See how it's done on video gives me a bit of confidence to try this again. I was on the verge of giving up!
@xanoevessels Wow you have to be one of the rudest people I have ever seen on Youtube and you should be ashamed of yourself!! Everything she says to to better help people who are new to crochet and need to know and see everything they have to do. Knowing how much stiches you have made is just one of the many important steps you need so you don't make mistakes and miss stiches. If you do not apperciate this then just leave.
First, thank you sooo much for your videos! I have successfully taught myself how to crochet! Second, I hold my yarn in my right hand is that normal/okay?
@StoopsMaGoops No. you are still working into the back of the stitches from the previous row. Going into one loop is either back lop only(blo), or front loop only(flo). I cover that in another video.
I'm working my way through your Back to Basics series and find them so helpful. Thank you thank you! At 65 years of age, I think I am finally learning to crochet. My question is this: How can I find a list of all your videos arranged in a logical progression (i.e., from rank beginner like the yarns and tools videos to gradually more intermediate to more advanced)? Maybe YouTube has an organizing feature that I'm missing.
@aktartt I have several videos put into play lists. If you go to my channel page (by clicking on my user name) then click the grid view (the little thing that looks like a window on the right) then choose "play lists"
You will see the back to basics videos in order. Then there are other play lists for specific crochet-alongs.
I wish I could organize them better too. I'll have to mess with it and see if that can be done.
Thank you SO MUCH!! I have always wanted to learn how to crochet, and having never picked up a hook before I made a small dishcloth in the time it took to watch the Super Bowl thanks to this video!!
thanks so much for your videos am I brand new to crocheting and your videos are the BEST!! you teach so well slow and close up. thanks so much i was going to give up on it till i saw your videos. thanks soooo much:)
This is a great video but I have one concern, my computer goes slow so I really need to work fast. So for all your other videos, can you save the unneeded stuff in the beginning? Like Thee stitches you did before? Overall, it's great! Helped much, Thanks alot
Thanks a TON! like many have said, your videos are amazing! I really appreciate your time and effort. I am starting my 3rd row and I have a question. When you start on the 3rd row you are now back on the original side. At this point do I only push the needle through and go under 1 line like on line 1 or under the v's like on line 2? Sorry if I'm unclear or it makes no sense. I really hope you understand the question.
I'm a beginner crocheter, and I have to say that your videos (for Dummies) are extremely helpful. It's like having a friend sitting beside me, guiding my clumsy fingers.
Thank you SO much. I got so confused trying to pick up a project from a long time ago, and your videos (especially the way you go SLOWLY and position the camera from your point of view) have really, really helped me. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! :D
Oh my gosh! I have tried learning how to crochet from books my sister gave to me, but I always knew I had been doing something wrong when I got to the second row. Now I know it's because you have to go under both! For some reason, the books never got that across to me. Thanks so much!
Your videos are so so good!! I had no one to teach me and really wanted to learn and your videos made it so easy. I'm just starting out and am horrible but im sure i will get better with practice. Thank you so much!!!!!!
it's simple and you do it slow enough that i can really see what you are doing where in other videos they do hard crochet and they do it fast too ...i finally learned how to crochet pass the first steps with the row 1 and row 2 videos you did!!
^-^Bah.. so happy! thank you lots for teaching me!
@JMBoli Not yet! I hope to in the future. Hopefully, once you learn the basics, you will be able to read patterns & follow one of the thousands of free patterns on the internet and make one on your own!
When you say I should have one less sc then my original chains... does the first slip knot you do to get in on your needle count as one or is that zero?
@karikuebler I count the slip knot as a chain, because I work a stitch into it. If you pulled the slip knot tight, and do not work a stitch into it, then it does not count as a chain. The last chain before you work your first row does not count as a stitch. This chain is used to position the yarn for the height of the single crochets in the second row.
My crochet turned out well. Your tutorial was great! I find keeping the tension the hardest part. My hands are aching from the effort... Thanks heaps :O)
Thank you for posting these videos! My cousin has tried and tried to help me crochet and I just have not been able to do it well! But getting to watch you do it over and over again, I think I have got it now! Thanks again!
could you please tell me what am I doing wrong...I just started to crochet 2 days ago and my chain was really tight so by the time i got to the 3rd row it was really hard to pull through I`m about to give up but I really want to make my scarf ! please help thank you :^)
@Bethintx1 Thank you for replyin back so quickly ..I went ahead and bought a bigger hook I bought a J and it`s way much better than the H I was using I`m getting the hang of it now I did miss some stichings on my scarf which made it a little slanted but its ok it`s my first scarf and I`m proud of it so thank you very much for the videos keep those vids coming :^)
My grandmother started crocheting at the age of 16 and her great aunt and grandmother crochetted before her. I have always wanted to learn and I could always do a nice chain but never able to do another row, Thank you these will help me alot in learning

i'm a starter crocheter lol and im learning very well although i have a crochet staters book i learn better visually and your videos are a big help i picked yours 1st out of everyone else's and i'm glad i did!
Oh my god, oh my god, I am working on my 4rd row!!!! I thought I would never learn, but you are actually able teach me how to crochet. You are such a grand teacher! Thanks so much, I am so enjoying myseld here all the way in the Netherlands!
I'm getting a bunch of messages about your crochet turning into a triangle. You are missing stitches. Be sure to make one chain before turning your work!
I tried this and now my crochet is turning to into a triangle :(. What am I doing wrong? I'm pretty sure I followed your steps very closely, did I miss something?
You are likely skipping stitches. Try again with a smaller swatch; maybe only 11 chains and 10 stitches. Count your stitches every row. If you have less. tear it out and tr again. It won't be a very good scarf, but it's great practice.
This is great, thank you for making these videos - though for some reason each row i do is shorter. I ended up with a perfect triangle. Need to watch you more closely i think!
ive been knitting for years and wanted to take up crocheting. i was having some issues following the books but this is wonderful! Soon I will making blankets for everyone!
I know what you mean. I started crocheting when I was just 11 years old, but learned to knit after I was married in my mid 20's. I really became a serious knitter just a couple of years ago. Crochet still is my favorite. It goes faster!

@BloomzLegolas F hook is very small. It will curl more with the smaller hooks. try using a J hook. It will still curl, but will do it less.

Maybe black yarn wasn't the best color to use for my first crochet scarf :/ I'm having a hard time finding the little pi's
Otherwise you're an excellent teacher :] I had the same amount of stitchings. Thanks for teaching me crochet :]

jesikad2 1 year ago
@jesikad2 Relax. Loosen up a bit. Do not pull your yarn too tight around your hook.
Many beginners work too tightly. Try using a larger hook for the chain... and always, practice, practice, practice!
