I think this is an amazing video Abigail, you have so much determination. My son is 11 yrs old and he has Spina Bifida, they said he would paralyzed and mentally retarded. He can walk with leg braces and his mental development is outstanding. He is a straight A student, he has challenges at times. He has a bladder and bowel incontinence, so therefore he has to wear diapers. He is a very loving and fun person. He is a inspiration to us. Keep up the good work.
Abigail is now 13 years old and is still swimming. She is in the 8th grade and swims for her local USA swim club as well as her high school team. It is encouraging to read everyone's comments and hear how her story inspires. Being a swimmer is just a part of who she is...she is also the youngest of 5 kids, an avid reader, loves Christian music, watching Netflix, and being with her dog. She continues to make us all proud!
I am interning at a hospital and this woman told me that she had something called fetal surgery because her baby has Spina Bifida. Was she playing me or is this real. She was on a lot of pain medication....
I was born with SB at a time when they were still learning was SB even was. Doctors said I'd be a vegetable, and that I'd probably die before age 5. I'm 34, and co-own a business, and travel to amazing places. I was blessed with a family like Abigail's.... A family who didn't believe in the words "I can't", and who taught me just because I do things differently, doesn't mean I'm "different". I want to tell every parent out there who has a child with SB, life is not over, it's just beginning!
you know what guys!!!!!!!!!!! that little girl has a lot of guts! to tell everyone! disability or no disability i can do it! i CAN make a difference! just because you have a disability does not mean that you are not like everybody else! this Yong girl is special! even though she has a disability! she is normal like all of us! i am sick and tired of seeing people with disability s being made fun of! i am telling you it's not fun it's hurtful! that little girl tells everyone yes i can! :) u go
@twilightalicefan101 You know what, I have spina bifida, too! xD. Yeah, who gives a shit who tells you that you can't do this, you can't do that. Fuck 'em all. Just think of it this way. The more people try and tell you you can't do something, the more floored theyr'e gonna get when you do. lol.
My wife was born with spina bifida. She is the absolutely the perfect woman for me. Most of the time I forget she has a disability and think of her as the woman with the skinniest legs I have ever seen, lol. She is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen and I love her with all my heart. I only wish i could have been there for here when she was growing up, but she's pretty tough without me defending her. I hate teenagers, who possess a cruelty only rivaled by Hitler, Pol Pot and Idi Amin.
i have a friend that has this disease and he really isn't limited. he's teaching me A LOT about life. i do have my own disabilities (more mental than physical) he inspires me really. i'm happy to have him in my life. what he does tell me about his condition and some of the details aren't so pretty. yes they do creep me out, but honestly. he's just like me, he just has a different way of doing what i would do normally.
Hi Abigail. I lost my leg in a motorbike accident about 3 yrs ago. I just watched your clip and I can only hope that I will become as determined as you are in living life with no boundaries. Abigail, you are a very beautiful special young lady and an inspiration to all. I wish you all the best that life can bring.
Abigail, you are sooo beautiful. I'm so inspired by your strength and determination. I, too, have spina bifida. I just celebrated my 40th birthday. Life is beautiful. If you'd like to contact me, you can email me at lorireece1@Comcast.net. I'd love to hear from you.
what a beautiful young lady. I have given riding lessons to girls with SB...loved working with them...no goal is to high to achieve as long as you work toward it in a positive way...Keep your head up..you inspire many :)
This Is Ahmazing. My Brother Dillon Has Spina Bifida, and Is Now 11 Years Old, He Started To Learn How To Swim And Hopping He Can Do This Soon Too ! (:
I have spina bifda as well I have a question though. In my case of spina bifida I can't also control my bladder so I always am dribbling pee. Is it possible for me to have sex?
hey i also have spina bifida and same like you i can't control my bladder but when i was in 2nd grade i had a surgery that in long story short gave me a bladder that i have to be catheterized by (and one that wont drip). it was done by Dr. Churchill down in UCLA.he has done it thousands and thousands of times and if your insurance covers it....i think it would be good for you to have it
@lonelyboy323 yeah...just because they can't walk (or can't walk a lot) they can still have sex but some might have nerve damage so they might not be able to feel as much but yes they are still able to have sex
Absolutley incredible.. I adopted a baby with Spina Bifida and all the other medical conditions that sometimes come with it.. I already thought about swimming..i cant wait now..she is 2..when did you start?
I think we should congratulate on the family as well. Many of the healthy kids do not get this attention. With three kids it must be really difficult!
Lucky Girl. My friend has spina bifida, and we just usually hang around and play chess or something like that. You are lucky. You have such good parents that are willing to do extra to take you out and teach you how to swim and things like that.
You go girl!! Keep up the good work. I am 25 years old and I have Spina Bifida also. I wish I was like you when I was your age!! Your such an inspiration to all!!

I have Spina Bifida and I love swimming. I think this little girl is awesome. Maybe one day she'll be in the Olympics! (unless she already has been lol I haven't kept up lately). Wow, whoever that guy is he sure did take your comment the wrong way. I have Spina Bifida and I understood perfectly well what you meant.
