  • in Britain its pronounced "rabbit food"

  • they're better steamed john. but brocoli + chilli flakes = perfect match <3

  • Add sesame oil.... delicious

  • mmmmmmmmmm. I want broccoli

  • "Learn how to cold broccoli salad?" I think your missing a word there.

  • I'm going to try this. I love broccoli.

  • @xxxTHExDEADxMANxxx An even better one is made with raw broc, bacon bits, onions, sunflower seeds with sweet mayo. Raw is the way.

  • @kmcl11 Raw broc, cauli, small onion, cheese, and mayo is the best. Raw is the way. Agreed.

  • @UNEEKMONIQ yup because when vegetables are cook most of the healthy stuff is killed from the heat but cooking it half way or steaming them is good too

  • omgosh you are awesome. love your videos and simple but great recipes

  • ADD CRAISENS!

  • @lilfighterxx Because if the broccoli is wet from water, it won't soak up the dressing as much. He knows what he's sayin :P ..I think he knows anyway.

  • Boiled broccoli! chef John steeming is the way to go, but all in all looks great :)

  • @lilfighterxx i know, its so that it will absorb the liquid dressing

  • Definition of salad => Anything with dressing on it

I think I'll go grab a nice big hamburger salad. Yum! And hey, salads are healthy, right?

  • I need to eat more broccoli...I'll be trying this!!!

  • i love ur videos. thank you so much for the time and effort :)

  • Hey fellas. Let's say some idiot bought a bag of frozen broccoli that he later found out to be seasoned with herbs and garlic. Nothing wrong with that. He likes herbs and garlic.. except the garlic tasted so strong and very unnatural! So now he's got a bag and a half full of broccoli that pretty much stinks with some unnatural gooey garlic paste thing. It really tastes awful and all he wants to do is "undo" that garlic taste as much as possible. He promises to buy fresh next time.

  • @alexandriaconcepcion why have you made a brocolli salad?

  • @alexandriaconcepcion Are you an Asian Chef?

  • Why not cayenne?

  • will this work with out rice vinegar? please help.. :) thanks

  • @lilfighterxx do you play WoW?

    /smile

  • I tried this recipe over the weekend. It was DELICIOUS!!!! I had it with baked salmon. Thanks!

  • it's all a part of the show - I control sun!

  • I tried this and it was yummy........Thanks!!

  • love your videos! So simple!!! thanks!

  • Made this last night and it was delicious! Thank you!

  • cut the end off, it's kinda ugly. Of coarse. We only eat pretty food!

  • I made this and served it with juicy ribeye steaks grilled medium rare on the BarBQ, lean protein mixed with a wonderful garlicky veggie mmm mmmm good. I just let the steak rest, fresh ground black Kampot peppercorns, I figured the broccoli salad had enough neat flavors. Oh, I also served some French baguette, butter, and a good full-body red wine. It was friggin awesome. Thank-you Chef John !!!

  • What a great blog. Do you have any barley recipes? Thanks :-)

  • yum

  • Superhealthy too! : )

  • Could this also work hot? if you made the dressing whilst the broccoli was cooking and then added it straight away while the broccoli was still hot?

  • I just made this, but substituted Lizano sauce for lemon juice...out of necessity. But it turned out spectacularly. Thanks, chef!

  • made it today! great!!!

  • Just made this tonight. Really good. I think we used less Broccoli than here, so there was more dressing than necessary. It was really good though, especially for a hot summer day. I made this with a good steakhouse style top round steak which I broiled. really good.

  • could this work with raw broccoli?

  • making this this very moment :)

  • I am totally trying this!

  • I'm glad you include the stem-it's my favorite part of broccoli, I even like it raw! This looks delicious!

  • I made this for my hubs this week. It was very, very good and he loved it. Thank you for an awesome veggy recipe. <3

  • what's the dish towel thing beneath the bowl at 1:45??

  • @QuagmireGirl it's a chef's trick. notice how the bowl doesn't spin when he whisks the dressing? if you make a ring with a dish towel (smaller than your bowl base) and then put the bowl on top, it secures the bowl to your working surface. voila! you don't have to hold the bowl with your free hand.

  • @stooge81 I see! =) Thank you so much

  • wow!! i love the mix of ingredients! and broccoli! a must try from me. Thanks, Chef John.

  • Great recipe! And great instruction!

  • looks good. and thank you for not doing anything with cauliflower. the stuff makes the house smell like a f@rt for days after you cook it and it's nowhere near as colorful...or flavorful.

  • tried this yesterday chef -- it was fricking delicious! I kept savoring it in my mouth wishing there was more, but no - it was all gone too quick :)

  • Incredible ! You genuinely make me want to eat broccoli !!

    Thanks, love your vids !!

  • Love broccoli!! Which is better, broccoli or brussels sprouts? That's a tough one.

  • hey chef john, as an aspiring chef and a lvl 2 apprentice, i love watching your videos. they make me want to so much more. one of my favorite sauces is the sauce Bigarade, and i was wondering, do you know any other gastrique sauces which are really good? thank you

  • Yay more salads pls!

  • I could eat it all and more

  • yummy...i love broccoli!!

  • can you show us some brazilian food or desserts?

  • could you do a broccoli beef or any chinese food recipe?

  • I love broccoli ! I cant wait to try this.

  • "wet broccoli no good"

  • great recipe but could you steam the broccoli instead? to cut down on the water content? I would cut the broccoli into smaller pieces to make it easier to eat :)

  • Can you use regular vinegar instead of rice?

  • My kids would never eat that

  • looks good

  • broccoli!!! i love broccoli..thanks for da vid!!

  • @my3rdeyes it's go great with Tabasco sauce...yummy!!

  • some graded parmesan on that would be nice =)

  • mmmmm looks great, thanks Chef John :)

  • Was that cayenne chili flake?

  • Thanks John great simple salad just what I like.

  • Looks fantastic!

  • Thanks for yet another great video! You help out so many people in the kitchen!

  • i wana try .cry

  • Even my Hubbie would love broccoli this way.

  • broccoli are good for you, one of the best veg's out there in nutrition and yummi-ness(is this even a word?)

  • @shadowseer92 I don't think so but "deliciousness" is a word and fits well! :D

  • i normally hate broccoli but this looks good enough to eat!

  • I am definitely doing this. I could go for seeing more healthy recipes

  • too much...I swear to God I was thinking cayene pepper

  • Ah, I could have sworn it was gonna be cayenne! But this recipe looks so delish, and will be such a treat to my taste buds which have only known soggy boiled broccoli all their life! YUM!

  • chef john. u take something so simple as broccoli and make a dish liek this..magnificiant.

  • Woooo, save the ice for the cocktails. Thumbs Up.

  • Lol @ "Wrong." for cayenne... DARN IT!

  • thumbs up for veggies ^__^

  • Chef John, what is your view on organic broccoli? I use to eat it a lot and then I discovered, while washing it, a ton of little bugs, almost spider like inside the flourette.. It scared me enough to that I never eat organic broccoli anymore.

  • @AngryLlamaz they are aphids. they live in non-organic broccoli too. what you can do is fill up a bowl with a 3:1 water:vinegar ratio and dunk the broccoli head-down into the water a bunch of times. that will kill them. then slice it in half along the big stem and dunk that in water to get rid of all of the dead aphids

  • I hate eating broccoli, but I sure love watching Chef John make some.

  • Could I get away with throwing some cayenne in there?

  • Haha, love the cayenne reference.

  • I can see youu on the booowwwlll..

  • This looks like it would be incredible if you served it with some chicken breast.

  • looks delicious!!!

  • i need to eat much vegetables! perfect recipe, even i could make it!

  • I've been eating broccoli similar to this since I was a kid. But instead, its cold, with lemon, salt and a little olive oil. It is amazing in the summer. I prefer this over fruit any day!!!

  • I had heard through the grape vine that steaming will cook your broc faster without losing the essentials (flavor, minerals n vitamins). Chef Jon is this true?

  • YUMMY!

  • amounts are critical? i dont think so. depends on your taste. more like "whatever you enjoy is critical"

  • @houchi69 Your first time tuning in on foodwishes aye? ;)

  • @lalleflab haha...nope. watch it all the time.

  • @houchi69 Ok. I just thought the irony in his voice when he said that was so thick that you could cut it with a spoon :) But you are totally right. It's all up to your own taste preferences.

  • Will regular vinegar work?

  • i usually like the woodwishes but i have to say this one was just nasty.

  • @josh3636 did you make this and actually try it? if not stfu.

  • That was a good tip about cutting the broccoli top into quarters. I usually just go for each floret or group of florets.

  • yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • I tried this and it is so good, who would have thought something so simple can taste so good. I left out hot pepper flakes for grand kids and they loved it. Thanks for the post :)

  • You make me so hungry...Usually I have my broccoli with just pepper, lemon, and soy sauce, but yours looks super yummy!

  • very similar recipe to mine, i use boil some hot oil then put just a little pepper corns and pore it on top.

  • Would there be a variation to this for small children?

  • the quality in your pictures make them muuuuccchhh tastier looking :9

  • divine! This is a must-do!

  • OMG Broccoli has never looked so good. Now can you make a meat salad?

  • @ARabidPigeon Now thats just repulsive. A meat salad. yikes I dont think of ground up meat mixed with mayonaise a salad, or whatever they mix it with. I've seen they seen that at some places. I like meat cooked a normal way served hot (with a good flavour like spicy) and eaten normally.

  • @ShrivyShrivey There's lots of delicious "meat salads"...chicken salad, shrimp salad, seafood salad, etc.

  • @ShrivyShrivey lol what?

I meant just pouring some boneless chicken, some bacon, some steak strips, some ribs into a bowl and drenching it in BBQ sauce. MMMMMMmmmm. It would be cooked normally. Just put together in order to give your tastebuds an orgasm.

  • @ShrivyShrivey uhh... and what exactly makes your way "normal"? Seems kind of ABnormal to be so disgusted by having meat in salad lol

youve never had a chicken caesar salad? Thats lame.

  • @tronclay You should read peoples comments before making an assumption what they said. I never said its gross to have meat in your salad. I said when its just meat its gross. Its not even a salad if its just meat, or anything non vegetable for that matter.

  • @ShrivyShrivey You shouldnt get so upset about other peoples opinions, big guy :)

  • @ShrivyShrivey I'm assuming you've never had an entree salad, have you?

  • haha can u do fried ice cream pls? :)

  • this actually looks really good! my mouth is watering!

  • Well done... Recipe and video! Peace

  • I LOVE YOU coz you help me what to do with this little trees. *muah*

  • That looks really good! I think I am gonna have to try. Thanks! Noreen

  • Man your food is great and you are a funny guy too.

  • MMMMMMM.......Vegetables

  • simple & cool for the summer!

  • 10 thumbs up!! <3

    Thanks for another great recipe!!

  • you just put athenewins in shame.

  • @Vleesball i dont get it i know who athene is but did i miss some kind of reference?

  • @Vleesball how has this anything to do with athenewins? Nor can it compare in any way. Athenewins is about internet neutrality, world of warcraft and boobs. <.<

  • @Xataret athene is a mad pro.

he eats nothing but broccoli. watch some of his first vids

broccoli is his secret. Just dont tell anybody.

  • @Xataret just search athenewins broccoli..

broccoli has alot to do with athenewins.

  • uuhhh u´re killing meee! i love brocoli but cant eat it! do some other salad pleaasee?

  • Looks yummy (though I'm not sure about the "lots of garlic" -- I don't like garlic). I didn't know about draining the broccoli.

Thanks for the tip Chef John.

  • chef John start making unhealthy food again!

  • I make mine a little different it's pretty good ^__^ if you'd like I could send you the recipe chef Jon

  • Lovely!

  • you should try this with cheesy jalapeno sauce. i tried some thing like this at a party once and it was so good

  • I made something very similar to this! But I added more herbs to the dressing and added corn and tomatoes to the broccoli. It was delicious. :)

  • if you have long stems they are usualy fibrous,

you can use a peeler to peel the lower part,

its very easy and quick, you get nice soft pieces.

they cook as fast as the flowers.

  • Looks awesome!

  • this looks amazing. you're my favorite youtube chef (and yes I do visit the website too!) I was wondering, could you do a video on how to use a whetstone to sharpen knives if you use a whetstone yourself? Thanks!

  • Are we talking sea water salty, like when you make pasta, or just salty enough you can taste?

  • @hellerZauberer Whoaw, you salt your water a lot when you cook pasta ?

Weird .. I always use max a tablespoon of salt for vegetables / pasta / rice because it's way easier.

Why ? Because this way, you can adjust the spices after it's cooked to set it perfectly .. and you can't do that if it's too salty after you cooked it.

  • 2nd.....duuhhh

cmon guys your awesome if your 1st but please stop commenting on it, cause its kinda annyoing and nobody F***** cares!!!
