  • wonderful...

  • ET ça qu'en dis-tu ? Un grand critique jazz américain a écrit : Si vous ne savez pas ce qu'est une vraie chanteuse de jazz écoutez Judy Niemack !

  • Ivan wrote this song with the intention to give it to Patti Austin and so Alan & Marilyn Bergman were asked to write the English lyric for it. So all that you heard about Jobim and Ivan's displease was untrue. Ivan was very proud of the song and the first rendition in English.

  • im sorry that i cant speak english little bit.

i hear this version many times!!

jane monheit version is very nice, too.

    ivan rins 最高!!!!!

  • comecar de novo makes me cry every time I hear it...

  • I first saw/heard Judy do this song at Borla's camp back in '96. She knocked me out. She is so incredible, I get so much inspiration from hearing her.

  • Sorry about the double posting. It didn't show up the first six hours and I posted it again... Apologies :-)

  • Funny how in English, Começar de Novo has nothing to do with the original lyrics.

In Portuguese, they tell the story of a woman "In a new beginning", shedding the

shackles of her previous unhappy life and looking towards the future with optimism

and determination. The Island's lyrics are wishy washy. Nevertheless sassy

Niemack delivers the song with sensuality and great feeling. Thank you for posting it.

  • Although I love the English lyrics, there is a rumor that Ivan Lins got very upset when he heard them the first time. In an old article I read about Bossa Nova music, supposedly Jobim was very upset when he heard some of the English lyrics being written to his songs, so he learned English and from that point on always provided lyrics in both languages.

  • Funny how the English version of Começar de Novo has absolutely nothing to do with the original lyrics. It's a pity really as in Portuguese they tell the story of a woman "In a new beginning", shedding the shackles of her previous unhappy life and looking towards the future with optimism and determination. The Island is very wishy washy. BUT sassy Judy Niemack is wonderful as always!!
