saw el rayo-x manymanymanymany times in this era. i was 16. i hitchhiked, walked and crawled to every single show. don't hold your breath for a reunion. we were lucky enough to get several california shows about 5 years ago (two at the fillmore in san francisco). they were ripping. btw, shouts out to bernie larsen on guitar, jorge calderon on the bass and ian wallace on drums. and of course, ras baboo all over the place!!!
I went to the show in Stochkolm about the same time as this... the drummer had an accident at the soundcheck so the show was prosponed 1 or 2 days. The show was fantastic, they played until they went out of songs. To end the concert once and for all Lindley went out on the stage with the drummer and a violine.
That's for sure! I never had the opportunity though to see him live in the 80's. I would have loved to see listen to him, Los Lobos and Eric Bibb in Vancouver this year!
I saw him with Jackson many times in the late 70s, but missed seeing him like this back in the day even though I was all over his music at the time. and I know folks gotta get paid, but I'd really love to see DL with a full band like this. I think he could show up cold, front almost any reasonably good group, and transform them into the ultimate good-time, party band. when he does come around it's usually duo stuff these days. you lokes in SoCal are lucky.
Oh my Lord. Does it get any better than this!!! Lindley is one of the all time great musicians/performers ... so fresh and full of positive energy!! ..even 20 plus years later! Anybody have any clues on how he tunes the 2 steels he is playing here?
the Rush comment is interesting. what an unlikely pairing stylistically, though they do share something in terms of awe-inspiring talent. I remember a Lindley interview (probably in Guitar Player) from around that time in which he mentioned Alex Lifeson as one of the few rock guys he admired a lot. I recall he lauded his touch and sense of nuance, and capacity for filling a finite space with creativity and drama. it was a telling remark, and high praise coming from the likes of DL.
What an extraordinary show this have been, people sitting around and drinking cups of tea, with el rayo x, playing a totaly burning set, then clapping politely.
David Lindley .Master of lap steel guitar.

WOW. SHMMMMOOkin!!! What a Great band. Also love the shot of the two
blond babes at the end.. they are clappin', but they don't seem to be havin' that much
fun.. like they can't quite figger out what ta make of Ol' Dave & his crew!! They
have the most serious looks on their faces. Funny.

His steal guitar has the same pickup that ry cooder uses in his bridge on his electric guitar

Thanks for sharing. I didn't remember him perform at Måndagsbörsen. But hey that was more than 25 years ago;-)
It's great though that these "old" heroes are available through yuotube. Keep on posting!

True, Youtube is a goldmine concerning "old" musicians/artists!!
All that we listened to on vinyls but never saw !
(Before MTV!)
So many never experienced Live..
But though ,we saw many of them, did'nt we?
And many of them still play today!

War dieses Video ein Teil eines Rockpalast Konzerteabends u. a. mit BAP aus der Hamburger Markthalle?
War das gleichzeitig die Intro zum Loreley-Festival 1982, Aug, 28?
