@FlyUAL269 Cont)(-from earlier comment - I was teaching my daughter ASL since birth...She Was reading English sight words (even on Index cards- not memorizing books like her day care tried to say! BEFORE age 3! That's on Tape too. ASL WON'T SLOW ANY KID down! REDUCES STRESS- He/SHE CAN COMMMUNICATES Easily- exactly what she wants! my daughter used 2 to 3 sign together before 2 1/2 also. (Taped that too-Good OLD VHS! LOL)
This is so amazing, if she keeps up with this...she could be such a help at her schools in the future for all the deaf and hard of hearing students. She'll also find amazing work or teach it herself! Super Blessed!
my parents are deaf so i was forced to learn sign language it was the only way i could talk to them, also my 2 uncles and my aunt and some of my friends, i am in middle school now and in 8th grade, i asked my principal if i could teach a class about ASL so now i am a teacher at my school its pretty cool!!
She is adorable! I am truly inspired by these videos. I noticed in earlier videos that you were using signing cards. Where might I be able to find these?
I like MocoBabies flashcards, Signing Time or Sign2Me, they are all really good. You can google them to check them all out! Or you can make your own by going to my MindBites lesson on how to make your own baby signing flashcards. I can send you the link if you'd like.
i have watched a few or ur videos.. i have a 9 and a 4 year old.. ur daughter is.. simply put... amazing.. i think u r too!! she is very smart!!! keep up the good work!!
wow she is really fluent with her words and her signs i am impressed because at two and a halfmost toddlers are still learning the basics of talking but she is incredibly smart and she is adorable i love her hair ( please reply on this but was it hard to teach her to sign?)
I'm sorry it took me so long to reply, I didn't see this comment until now! It didn't take long at all for me to teach her. I just started with a few signs like 'milk' and 'more' and then I added more as she got them. I would always do the sign as I said the words. All babies can learn. If you look at my channel there is a link to an article I wrote on 'how to sign with your baby' if you are interested in learning more.
oh my goodness! she is sooo adorable! her sign language is so good. im very impressed. i was wondering...are you fluent in American Sign Language or do you just know basic signs for your daughter?
in the uk sign language is really different......the vowels are all on the left hand and in america it seems alot more difficult because at eleven it took six weeks to get ...now i'm fourteen i have forgotten it and learned the uk vesrion and i learned i in ten minutes
its really smart teaching your daughter this because she can grow up to achieve great things
Her K is supreme. I learned sign language around the age of 3 because my cousin is deaf. I find the language to be awesome, and I've never meet a better bunch of people. This is probably the coolest thing you could do for your child, just because motor skills are learned faster than verbal. Keep up the good work, I can tell that you and Fireese are going great places. Maybe she'll be a teacher like her mom?! :)
How encouraging. My daughter is a cleft palate/lip baby and we are just now signing with her. If I had only known months ago...the barrier would have never been there. In just a month she's signing a bit...but how encouraging is this!!! THANK YOU!
Whats the idea beside this teaching? Who gave you the idea teaching your daughter the alphabet? Do you think that the manual alphabet promote her thought or her cognitive abilities?
The idea is that babies/children can take in language as a sound on the left side of their brain and take in sign language as an image on the right side of their brain. This gives the child two places in their brain to store the one letter/sign/word. I'm a teacher and have done tons of research on these benefits so I guess it was my research that gave me the idea. It seems to be promoting her cognitive abilities seeing that she's reading now at 2.5 years.
I am sure about the benefits children have, but are you sure that signs are acquired as images? Do you have any references about it? I think signs are also acquired in the left side of the brain. ( see Emmorey 2000 and her earlier writtings)
Children taking signing as different modes such as muscle memory, image memory etc. This was just a simple explanation of why it is so great to use with children. I actually lecture at universities on the topic of using sign language to promote literacy and have done extensive research on it. There are huge benefits.
I showed this to my baby sister, she's almost 3yo and she knows sign language but not a lot...i just taught her some words that you did on the other videos and even the alphabet. I just wanna say thank you cause now i can come on your website and teach her a lot more than she already knows. I just want the best for her and be smarter than she is. So thank you again for these.
What an amazing little girl with wonderful parents and a beautiful name. Thank you for sharing your signs with us. And please say.."Thank You Fireese, for teaching us to sign!" =).
I'm impressed! I'm glad that you're teaching her to increase her IQ and easier to communicate . Keep up with the good work! Pat yourself on your shoulder, by the way, she's a darling.
My son loves watching Fireese and asks for her (to watch her video's) daily. He is motivated by seeing what other kids can do so just watching her learn her alphabet has motivated him to learn his. So thank you for sharing you videos with us.
She's very cute and very clever. I have taught, worked with SEN children and EBD children now....I know what you mean about the name thing...heaven knows what my children will be called!
I do love Fireese though
Fireice would have looked odd I think Firice maybe, but prefer Fireese.....
Thanks! I am a teacher and it is hard to pick a name that you don't associate with another child (either good or bad). We threw around a bunch of ideas and really liked the ying and yang of 'fire and ice' together. A balance of two things. When we put the two together we liked it but didn't like the spelling. We also wanted to give her a more common short form which is why we spelled it with Reese in it (like Reese Whitherspoon). So if she wants a more common name she can use Reese :-)
She is the most adorable, smartest little girl. I absolutely love her. I plan on studyig your vidoes and teaching my future girl sign language, just as you did with Fireese. Thank you so much for all these- you are an inspiration to all of us.
I found myself claping when she finished spelling her name. So cute. I love to watch her progress. thanks for keeping us posted. I'm going to be an au pair for a newborn starting July and I fully plan on teaching her some sign language.
I found it very funny when Fireese was trying to sign, and at the same time her tongue kept moving!!! Good job Fireese, it's so cute when she pulled her little finger out to do "I"!! Such a smart and cute girl
Fireese has grown sooooo much and she's got the letter down to a T!!!!!! You don't put nearly enough videos on for my liking..we want more..we want more!!! Fireese has taught me loads of signs that I am trying to pass on to my daughter..if she'll ever sit still long enough to look at my hands!!!
LOL! We say zed in Canada for 'z' but we also sometimes say zee. My husband tends to say zee (as you heard in the video) and I'm a teacher so I tend to say the formal zed :-)
