@oleary83 What are you talking about man, I don't care about their credentials, Bear might know how to survive, but I'm saying his show does not portray the tools and mindset that an actual survivor needs. In every show, the whole concept of Survivor Man is that he is actually surviving. Because unlike Bear, he is completely alone except usually with some sort of emergency rescue plan. Someone who is ACTUALLY surviving wouldn't do half the crazy shit Bear does...

@oleary83 Bear just does stupid and impulsive shit that if you were actually surviving you would never risk. Some examples in the few shows of Man Vs. Wild I have seen: trying to catch bats by waving stick around, trying to get honey from a bee hive without any precaution, drinking urine without distillation, and general lack of care for the environment. When you are surviving you don't really climb trees and jump across boulders. I have also seen Bear take a bite out of a raw snake...

Yeah but that's it: Bear doesn't have a tent. What I mean is it's difficult to compare the two shows because they're really different. Mears' show is much more like a "how to live in the wild" or "how to use natural resources" guide. And yes it's really good, thorough, detailed, with plenty of different techniques and lessons etc. But it deals with situations where a person has willingly gone in the wild by themselves and in prepared.

Bear's show deals with situations where someone totally unprepared faces something totally unexpected, just like a tourist that has lost his group. The purpose is not to show how to live in the wild, but how to get the hell out of here in one piece. That means no equipment, few resources, and as a result, very basic techniques, often redundant. But redundance is a good here. Hopefully, people will remember a few things.
