Awesome set up.. Here we use green lights for volunteer firefighters.. Our county just decided they want to inspect all non county issue green lights due to a number of citizen complaints.. My truck only has undercover 8s in the grill and deck 2 duals in the rear window and I wouldn't be surprised if I get to asked to remove my rear lights come inspection day.. I really wish I could run something like yours
Do ppl move for u considering the amount of lights, rather than one dashlight or one headliner lightbat..... Because i heard blue lights r courtsey lights and alot of ppl dont move
@43FIRERESCUE43 You're absolutely right, BLUE light POV's are not considered emergency vehicles, but RED light POV's are, because in PA you can get emergency vehicle license plates for red light POV's, several cheifs around here have them.
Not that my opinion really matters but I will give it. Lighting = Safety. To some it may seem overkill but the point is he can be seen. THAT is what matters. Even with the lights, I bet there are still idiots that won't get out of the way. Good job man!
@ncc0wby1 there's a big difference between ensuring that other drivers see him, and ensuring that other drivers ONLY see him, and not other important things they need to see, like the edge of the road for example.
@nerdlydood Point taken and a good one as well. I do think the dash lights are a little pointless with how busy the front already is. I have a good many lights on my POV as well but I don't ever use them all unless the sun is beating down. When I use it for traffic control and on the scene, I will turn them all on. (except the interior bar... ,trying to sell that one)
@ncc0wby1 on the contrary, drivers can be blinded by the flashing lights, especially blue lights, at night. Many police departments around here have way too many blue lights on their cruisers and it blinds drivers which is very counter-productive. Not to mention drunk drivers are attracted to flashing lights.
@greegarrett1 And how are you supposed to see where to pull over if you're blinded by a wall of blue light? Alot of the roads in my district have no shoulder so you can potentially force people off the road if they are blinded by all of the lights. It's not so far fetched either. It's happened before.
Where did you get your grille lights? I have a whelen slimmiser led in my dash and i have strobes in my headlights and taillights. Also where did you get the running board lights? i need some for my POV as well i have a difficult time with people seeing me coming to T intersections because i have to use backroads to get to the station.
im from pa and a fire fighter but i have to ask how do you get away with the taillight strobes and headlight strobes ? were im from wed be in big trouble for using those with blue lights.
@DogRescuer24 we're technically not supposed to have them unless we either run red lights or we're parked on scene. by state law, PA firefighters can have any two blue lights of your choice to respond with, and you can have whatever you want when parked on scene. but alot of firefighters go all out like this and light up their vehicles and most cops and cheifs dont say anything cause they know we need to be seen and sometimes one or two lights just doesnt do the job.
I love the setup! The only thing I would change is remove the Lightning-X micromax 9's in corners of the dash. I understand you want them for intersections, but you already have so many front facing lights. I'd say they would look much better as "mirror beams". Just a suggestion.
In CT we can run blues and amber. Amber is caution, which anyone can have. I do believe white strobes also go along with caution, but I could be wrong. Nice set up, and great looking truck. Nice choice :]
@tetra021 in iowa its not restricted to just blue... EMT's can use white and you can have any combination of them and you can have as much blue as you want where ever except the very back... only white and yellow in the back
@43FIRERESCUE43 In PA, firefighters are allowed to respond to a call with no more then 2 blue lights...while parked on scene we can have as many as we want...but while responding we can only have 2 lights on.
when you're on the fire scene.there is no such thing as to much...esecially fo fire police offiers who hve to stop traffic..if it gets the attention of the public and stops themfrom hitting you..then it's money well spent.
why did you put that much into the lights. When people dont yeild thr right of way for a blue light. I have almost the same setup on my F-150 but my lights aint blue they are red and white so when people see me they get out of the way.
@Lawmaster1702 Funny how that changes from state to state. Here in MI my POV is an emergency vehicle when responding on a call. I need no lights at that point, although, you would be a fool not to run "hot" and not be lit up. I wish they would make a national standard for this stuff as it would end a lot of confusion. Hell some states ever run green! WTF?!?! But I agree with your statement, on scene, you can never have enough. (Although someone will still say they didn't see it!)
@n4ems o i agree..you would be nuts not to want to be seen..but it is my beleif that every state should allow volunteers to run blue lights and sirens and cheifs and so forth red lights and sirens..that way we can be seen AND heard...cause if they require apparatus to run sirens with lights...then why shouldn't volunteers have sirens to..just to be safer?
@Lawmaster1702 I just don't understand why all the states aren't on the same page with this. If you are running to a true emergency then I don't see why there is a problem. It has to be a power trip. In MI a tow truck can have red's! In some states, snow plows are blue. This is utter craziness. One system, nationwide, with strict standards as to who may/may not have them with reqt's for classes like EVOC or VFIS for safe driving certs. Problem solved.
@n4ems O i agree wholeheartedly...but you and i both know that as soon as the gov't came out with a standard all the political groups would be in an uproar cause "It's a state thing" and god forbid that somebody try to make it a little easier.
Nice setup, in California, we arent aloud to use blues, that is for emergency vehicles only, such as police. nice setup though.. what made u go with blue and not red?
@obxemt I don't give any volunteer too much shit, because if all this man wants in return for his many hours of unpaid professional service to his community is to put some lights on his truck, that's fine by me, as it should be with everyone.
Because NJ law specifies that volunteer firefighters use blue. They are not classified as emergency vehicles. Chiefs are considered emergency vehicles and can have both red lights and sirens.
@obxemt : This would actually be illegal in PA. He can't have flashing headlights, clears, or such a great amount of lights. I'm pretty sure a non-officer FF is allowed 2 blue lights assemblies.... Technically ;)
When I posted before I can't remember if I stated that the setup is really good! Just like someone states, the front is just overkill. But very nice from what we can see.
Well he/she could be rolling to scenes in this truck as well. My question is are the blue lights know as courtesy lights in this state or emergency lights?
depends on which state your in...... Here in Indiana they are courtesy lights, you "should" yield the right of way but legally you don't have to, but a fireman going to pick up a rig yes i would get out of the way. Also in indiana this truck would be illegal, according to the elected officials (who are retarded) volunteer fireman can only put up 4 lights in their pov's. 4 lightbars, 4 hide-a-ways etc. etc.
The Vehicle Code is so messed up here in IL that I'm not sure what the case is here anymore. I know one village allows blues w/ 1 red light for their ESDA. I dunno what's what anymore. lol
did you do the installation yourself? and could you show the interior control setup? very good on the truck. i like the side running-bar/ side window lights. i work for a police dept in nm and i cant tell you how many times i wish i had lights like those on my vehicle's sides. people just cant see a vehicle that well (and their too stupid/ oblivious) and those would help with traffic control. stay safe out there.
