Rarely, do we ask if an asian person is south-east asian, cambodian, vietnemese, etc. But in defense of white Americans, our racial heritage is completely blurred and melded together, if someone has red hair, you can assume they have some Irish ancestry, but that is about it. Asians clearly have a different ancestry that has not been absorbed into the American "race" of crazy mixtures.
