  • 4:31. What a bawssss.

  • @Symphorch ask him what he thought about playing with Metallica back in 1999. in the documentary they didn't show the Orchestra Musicians opinions bout the show with Metallica

  • What an awesome roll at 1:31! I'm friends with David, and he's such a cool guy!

  • @Symphorch Really? That's awesome! He's an AMAZING timpanist :)

  • @tenniscrazy2 You bet! I just met him two days ago! I even played on those very drums for a minute! They are the greatest drums evar!!! He's super funny, too!

  • Nice hole in the crash cymbals. Can't say I've seen that before in orchestral cymbals.

  • I WANT TO PLAY THE TIMPANI!!!!!!!!

  • 1:42 Raep Vision....

  • The timpani is what you bring out when diplomacy has failed.

  • @ActaNonVerba71 LMAO! Win.

  • Oh... I can't hear the low sounds of the percussion with these speakers... :(

  • The percussion player's heads are bobbing up and down all the way through.. It looks a bit ridiculous, as if they're struggling..

  • Im going to a San Fransisco Symphony concert tomorrow.

  • How do the non-principal timpanists decide parts? Im in a youth orchestra and the conductors pick usually, most people are either timpani and some other stuff or mallets and some other stuff. How do they choose?

  • the assistant principal timpanist is usually principal percussion, the principal players assigns parts usually in professional situations

  • @fcmilsweeper9 for youth orchestras, they aren't based on performance. Youth orchestra percussion sections want to give you a good basis on every instrument. Usually in professional situations, percussionists usually have an instrument they are better at or prefer. They decide according to their strengths.

  • @youngergermanpope

It depends on the orchestra, in some cases like in New York at the Philharmonic, the principal (Chris Lamb) plays all the parts that you would play on auditions aka "the good parts", for instance if they are playing Scherrezzade he's playing snare drum, if they're playing Tchiak 4, he's playing cymbals, whereas elsewhere players specialize on certain things like my teacher (Principal of the Syracuse Symphony) specializes in cymbals

  • aspiring orchestra percussionist, i really liked this. i think it's really cool that even though he's a grown man he doesn't mind using a kiddie pool at work. that's a real artist.

  • How's called mvmt. at 1:10? Its' very highered and powerful, and i like it xD

    Dave is a beast x2

Sorry if my english is very complicated, i speak spanish jojo.

  • It is Tchaïkovsky's 4th symphony in F minor, and it is the ending of the 1st movement.

To my opinion? Loudest F minor chord ever ;-)

  • @Josep489 It's the first movement

  • Dave's a beast.

  • This is great. Thanks so much.

  • where could I find this DVD?

  • On the SFS website under the "store" secion. You can get individual parts or the whole set.

  • My favorite piece ever, and a group of percussionists that I (sorta) know personally.

    Awesome.

  • How come they haven't released this episode on DVD?

  • They have! Search Amazon or BN for "Keeping Score MTT"

  • Funny ... on the official website, they don't have it available for purchase. =/

  • Could you possibly post the 3 other movements?
