@TheSonic497 Nah, I think you're confused. Turok and Kurok look completely different so I doubt they have anything in common other than an oddly similar name...
Those who actually played this game and level KNOW...the Catacombs were certainly a test of suvival.
It was one of the longest levels in the game it seemed, with some of the most powerful enemies to boot. Those blow-dart Shaman guys took maad energy with one shot.
HATED them!!!!
By the time you finally completed this level...beleive me..you felt like, if YOU were to actually travel to the Catacombs you would know your way around.
Finding all the keys and finishing this level was, and because of the mod-cons of most games in terms of saving/lack of game over, will probably always be, the most harrowing game experience of my life! Turok had such huge levels but just imagine losing all your lives and having to fumble your way through the darkness for another few hours by failing a bastard leap of faith you need to make to reach those bits of the catacombs only accessible from the outside entry by all those pools and raptors
Wow, the Catacombs! This brings back so many memories... Jumping over the stairs, the minigun, the music... And this level wasn't easy to navigate through.
I wish there is a remake, not the one that is out now, but derectly from this one. Or at least on Xbox live arcade. (Sinister creepy saying: It'll make us happy.) ^_^
This game was absolute genius. Crippled by huge amount of fog (draw distance), but the music and atmosphere put it light years above anything at the time in an fps. Watch the video or just listen to it you will see why. N64 only the pc version was pathetic...
I agree, it was a shame that it couldn't have had better draw distance, but the fog kind of added to the creepiness of the game in such a way that I think a lot of people didn't mind it so much. You never knew what was going to come out of that fog.
Haha, the stairs, I had forgotten about that. Maybe I should replay this game.
