Not sure that the tremolo in Sills's voice suits the seductiveness that the song should convey, but her rhythmic precision, tonal accuracy, and clarity kinda make up for it.
I believe that this was from an album in which Beverly also recorded "Ah, Sweet Mystery of Love" - my favourite version of that song ever... even better that Jeanette McDonald/ Nelson Eddy. Would you by any chance be able to post that one as well?
Have you heard the Jeanette Scovotti rendition of Kiss Me Again? Linernotes say, as I recall, that Victor Herbert meant it to be sung in a lower register. Beverly Sills also sings it beautifully.
I believe that the reason Beverly, with her beautiful voice, could sing this with so much deep feeling which touches us so, is because she was in love with, and married to the love of her life for eventually, 50 years!
The members of the orchestra stood up after Bev had finished recording this fabulous song and made kissing gestures....the highest tribute any singer could wish for! I am willing to bet that Victor Herbert was on bended knees with admiration!!!!!!!!
Ridiculously beautiful.

The story goes that when she finished this recording, the orchestra rose to their feet and applauded in the studio!

Her tremolo almost completely gets in the way, but it is a special performance.

I will check it out, Palmerito, but I am not sure this is from the same album. If it is, I will post and let you know. Thanks, I love it too. C.

@ceb2633 It is from the same album - Songs of Victor Herbert. One of my all time favorites.

@Palmerito yes, this is from the recording done in the late 70's. all of the victor
herbert songs, including ah sweet mystery of life are there as well. when she had
finished recording this song the orchestra blew her a kiss! she was past her prime
at this time, but still truly wonderful!

Beverly Sills nickname was "Bubbles." She had such a charming personality on television. I'm sorry I never got to meet her.

You would love her biography, zeekwolfe. She was truly "Bubbles". C.

I don't think you can listen to Sills sing anything without it putting a smile on your face. She sings with such joy.
I've been listening to this everyday before I go to sleep. You know what? I sleep like a baby!!!!!

I also had the idea that I could sing Brunnhilda...........The "Ride of the Valkyries" was some Ride!!! I'm quite good at singing "Ho Jo To Ho" LOL
Also sang "my own version" of "I Could Have Danced All Night." I sang "I Should Have Danced All Night." I'd better stop or I'll be banned LOL

I think the original version is in the key of G and was originally written for a mezzo.
Being gay, I had the crazy idea that I had to sing it. Talk about making a mess of a beautiful song........LOL

Anna Moffo also sings this and it's a wonderful recording with Skitch Henderson.
