  • can you please show us how u make it

  • Hi! I have a video tutorial in which I show you step by step how to make the tiara. Please head on over to my channel so you can see the vid! :)

  • the name of the your little things is drops, beautiful cake!!!!

  • Glad you liked it! :)

Muchas gracias a ti!! :)

  • Did u place the top layer on a cake round before stacking it? Or is it directly placed on the bottom layer?

  • It's on a cakeboard.

  • Wow, I'm going to make this for my niece's quince as a cake topper instead of the traditional doll. Love it!

  • That's awesome! Glad you liked it! :0)

  • how did you get the jewels to stick?

  • Royal Icing. Please visit my FB page called Krazy Kool Cake Designs by Laura E. Varela-Wong so you can see my other creations! :) Or you can find the link on my channel info page here on YouTube! :0) Thanks! :)

  • The cake was beautiful! Do you use box cake mix or homemade cakes?

  • Thank you! I now use recipes from scratch. When I first started I used to use cake box mixes. :0)

  • i know them jewls could be called "JewlDrops"

  • I like that! Jewel Drops! :0)

  • what website did u get the mold?

  • CK

  • Yay! :0)

  • I like that cake because is very simple and purple is my favorite color too. I also like the tiara and when I was young I wanna be a dead princess Stephanie

  • Which is the BEST for TASTE...BUTTERCREAM or FONDANT?

Alot of people at my friend's wedding "peeled" the FONDANT from the cake and tossed it in the waste basket.

Her cake was soooo expensive and to see all that FONDANT going to waste made me so sad.

A lot of people say if you care about the "taste" of the cake...you would wisely chose BUTTERCREAM...but, if you don't care about TASTE...you can go more for the DECORATIVE THEME OF THE CAKE.

Please someone tell me is the FONDANT that SUGARY?

  • Unfortunately, it sounds to me, like the fondant the cake decorator used on your friends' wedding cake tasted awful... Your friend should have had a cake tasting before hiring the cake decorator. A wedding cake is a big deal! LOL! Fondant shouldn't be TOO sugary. It SHOULD be delicious. :0)

  • Are the jewels edible? I have seen the edible diamonds & jewels at some of my girlfriend's weddings. I was told that they were sugar (Isomalt)????

Help? Where can I purchase the edible gems?

  • The jewels on the cake are edible. The jewels on the tiara are not. They are there solely for decorative purposes.

  • the stuff that you have added on the cake are called DROP DOTS

    best regards

    mark

  • Thanks Mark! Drop dots! I love that! :0)

  • you are very welcome

    keep up the good work

best of luck i enjoyed your work its exceptional

    hugs]

  • looooove it... if you have some time... I wonder how i can make sugarpaste who hardens.. Greetings from Norway

  • Greetings all the way to Norway! Making gumpaste is fairly simple. If you search for Aine2 here on youtube you will see a video on her channel on how to make gumpaste. Let me know if you have trouble finding it. :0)

  • AWESOME TIARA!!! what did you use to keep the jewels in place?...edible glue or water?...great job!...i'm using your tutorial to do this tiara..thank you for your expertise!

  • Thank you so much! If I remember correctly, I used edible glue to hold these gems in place but lately I've been using royal icing because I have found that it works much much better. Glad you liked the tutorial! :0)

  • You did a fantastic job! What brand of air brush do you use and why? I'm about to purchase one and want to make a wise choice.

  • Thanks! I use an IWATA Eclipse. I chose this one because it seemed to fulfill all my needs as far as airbrushing. I recommend you check out their demonstrative video here on YouTube. I think it may be on my favorites list.... I love my airbrush. Someone would have to do a VERY GOOD JOB of convincing me to buy another brand... :)

  • you should have done a border but still great work. Ribbon would have also been a nice border.

  • I agree with you 100%! :0)

  • @jesterscourt21 So glad you said that because I HATE to write things that people might call negative. I would have put silver and purple pearls around the border of each tier. But the cake is WONDERFUL! I am one of those bakers who perfected the art of smoothing out buttercream 100% so it can look like fondant because I just have not learned to use fondant yet. To tell you the truth I am intimidated by fondant. I literally have boxes of new fondant that I purchased months ago scared to us. LOL

  • I think she really really likes it....lol

  • Thank you! :0)

  • @laurapoopie hi dear you call them drop dots

the stuff that you have put on the cake

  • I love it!!! I am making a princess/polkadot cake for my little sister and I love this tiara, Did you cover the can with plastic and did you spray some kinda oil or crisco on it?

  • Thanks! I covered the can with either wax paper or parchment paper. Can't remember which but either will work fine. Please checkout my Tiara Tutorial. I made it a few months ago and it shows you step by step how to make it. :)

  • Hi Laura, Your cake looks amazing and your tutorials are really helpful Thanks for sharing them, can you please tell me how much tylose powder you need to add to the fondant ?...Many Thanks

  • Thank you so much! How much tylose you add depends on the amount of fondant you use. It's normally 4 tsp of tylose to every 2.5 lbs. of fondant. Aine2 here on youtube has a great tutorial. :0)

  • thank you so much laura!!most appreciated!!

  • You're welcome! :0)

  • hi Laura tks for your reply.fyi it is difficult to get tylose powder here in Singapore.there are alot of gum tragacanth tho'.I search the youtube of how fondant is made using that powder but it was a dissappointment.cld u do a tutorial or at least give me the recipe?

  • I'm gonna send you Aine2's tutorial on how to make it and you can go ahead and use the gum tracaganth. It'll work just as well! :0)

  • @laurapoopie Can you send it to me as well? I'd like to try it out someday and hopefully I can make one for my own birthday :D

  • @anieyusrainiyusoff wow :D I live in Singapore too (:

  • Dear Laura,

I went to bakery store and was confused that there are more than one type of gum powder for example gum tragacanth, wilton gum tex n tylose.what are their difference?

  • Hi! Yes, there are a lot of different kinds but they all do the same job. Some might differ just a tiny little bit in their ingredients but all work just as well. So really, just take your pick! Hahaha! I personally always purchase the Tylose. The brand I use is "Confectionary ARTS International. CAI Tylose Powder". It comes in a 2 oz. plastic jar and has a black and pink label. If you look at my Boston Red Sox cake I posted a few days ago, you'll see them in there holding up the bat to dry. :)

  • This turned out really pretty! congratulations!

  • Thank you! :0)

  • wow, it is so wonderful! U are so talented :)

its a great cake, its perfect!!

if u dont mind.. can i make one?

  • Thank you so much! Of course you can! :0)

  • hai I too love ur design.the gem is it edible?can u demo how u use the airbrush on the tiara?

  • Thank you! No, the gems are made out of plastic. Airbrushing the tiara is super simple because it's all one color. Pretty much like spray painting. ;0)

  • Gracias a ti! :)

  • i love it!!! i do it all by my self for my daughter sweet 16, and this one is something i have to do!!! she is in sept. so i keep doing and hiding from her,so i will surprise jejeje, i hope my look that beautifull like yours!!! thank again!!!

  • Thank you so much! I am positive that your will be FABULOUS! :)

  • i have a cake that i am making and a crown was requested for it and i love yours and was hoping you dont mind if i try this one i bought one from a store and was going to try and do that design but i really like this one did you put it together on the coffee can? how long does it take to dry completely? - i love this cake by the way!

  • Hi Tessy! Of course I don't mind! GO FOR IT!!!! Yes, i actually did put it together ON the coffee can. It took about 3 days to safely take it off the can without it moving AT ALL. I'd say that in about 3-4 days, if you make each strand about 2 cm's thick the way I did, it should be completely dry and ready to paint. :) I'm so glad you liked this cake! :)

  • thank you so much for advice i wil let you know how it comes out....i have an airbrush gun coming so i am so excited to use that !

  • i love the simplicity x

  • Thank you so much! :)

  • I LOVE IT!!!

  • Thanks hun! :)

  • Can you do this with foundant rather than gum paste. It looks fab.

  • Thank you! :) Yes, I suppose you could. It will not harden or solidify as well as gumpaste and there will probably be more chance for breakage, but you definitely could. :)

  • are you in the illinois area?

  • I'm in the ol' western town of El Paso... Texas that is... :)

  • Do you make your own gumpaste or buy it?

  • I buy the cheap Wilton fondant and then mix it with tylose to turn it into gumpaste. I've bought gumpaste before and I never liked it. It was too hard to work with. :)

  • thanks :)

  • I love the cake i know she would be very happy

  • Thank you! She did like it! :)

  • i wish i had this cake.i would love it.

  • Thanks sweetie! :)

  • I WOULD LOVE TO WEAR IT

  • I would have loved to see you add a border but the cake looks pretty.

  • I agree with you! :) Thanks! :)

  • I love how elegant this cake looks. Very pretty! I'm sure everyone loved it!

  • Thank you! :) Glad you liked it!

  • In spanish please!!!!

  • Haha! Haber! Preguntame lo que quieras! :)

  • its cute! i wish i had your talent

  • Thank you becandtrey! :) You CAN do this! It's not difficult! You should give it a try! :)

  • Thanks slayerxman! Yeah, I changed it to my icon a few weeks ago. I had the Karate cake as my icon for a really LONG time and finally decided to change it! Glad you liked it! :)

  • Fantastic cake!! How did you do the tiara??

  • Hi Lola! Thank you! Glad you liked it! The tiara was made using gumpaste, edible glue, and it was airbrushed silver. :)

  • Are the Gems edible? Did you mention that??

  • I believe I did mention in the video that the gems aren't edible. Since this tiara will be saved as a keepsake, I decided to use non-edible gems. Particularly because edible gems tend to fade and get cloudy with time, heat, and humidity. :)

  • Hi Laura, I have been following your videos on Youtube for some time and I think you are very talented. Yours cakes always look wonderful. I have decided to invest in an airbrush so I can make your tiara cake. Airbrushing does seem like a messy process, does the spray go everywhere? Do you have any tips? Thank you so much x

  • Thank you for the wonderful compliment! I'm sure you'll enjoy using your new airbrush! It's tons of fun... It's really not that messy. You'll want to have good ventilation and maybe some carboard (I use project boards) to block off the area. You can control where the paint goes so it shouldn't be very messy. I like to have my air conditioner on full blast and the nearest door or window cracked open so the air is always circulating. Another tip is to wait a few minutes between coats. Have fun! :)

  • Hi Laura, thanks for the tips. As I have never used an airbrush before I will surely need some practice but it does sound like fun so I'm looking forward to trying it out. I don't have air-con in my house as I live in England and it's never really that hot here!! I will make sure there's plenty of ventilation though. Anyway thanks again and I look forward to seeing more of your beautiful cakes. Take care. Dee x

  • Very BEAUTIFUL cake. My granddaughters would just LOVE it. I want to learn how to make the tiara. Do you have a tutorial? Did you do the roping with a clay gun? Also, how did you get the loops to stay open while drying. Thanks so much for all your assistance. I'm sure enjoying your awesome cakes . . . Rita

  • Thank you! :) Sorry, no I don't have a tutorial. You might want to look at the pictures again at the end of the video cuz I show how the tiara was done over an old coffee can. Ropes were done by hand. Gumpaste is so solid yet flexible that it pretty much stays the way you want it to. I just looped the ropes and glued them where I wanted them to stay stuck together. It stayed ON the can for about a day and then another day standing up on its own to completely dry. Let me know if this helps! ;)

  • Hi Laura.. I absolutly adored your cake..!! actualy i'm trying to learn how to decorate cakes with fondant but i don't know what material do you use to paint. Could you tell me how did you paint it purpple..? thaks

  • Thanks Sabrina! There are lots of ways you can paint a cake. The ways that I use a lot are by either airbrushing the cake or by painting it with a paintbrush. You simply mix your gel colors with a little bit of alcohol and voila! If you have any other questions let me know! :) Hope this helps! :)

  • i love this cake!!!!!!!!!!!!! love the tall tiers and thise teardrops are my absolute faves!!! this is def my style cake! congratutalions Laura! MY U & MAYEN are so so good!

  • So that's what they're called! Teardrops! LOL! That tells you how much I know! Hee hee! I'm SO HAPPY you liked it! You are so kind with your wonderful compliments! :)

  • The tiara is made out of gumpaste which is a combination of fondant and tylose powder. Adding the tylose powder (a.k.a gumtex) makes the fondant nice and claylike and once it dries it gets super hard! :) If you check out Aine2's tutorial, you can see how simple it is to make gumpaste. If you have trouble finding the video, let me know, and I can forward it to you! :)

  • what brand/make/model airbrush sets do you have and would you recommend and why? I'm in the market for my first one ever, and I have NO clue where to start. Thanks!

  • wow! you've been busy. been off utube for a bit and i come back and you've done so many great cakes. i think i'm going to look into air brush now but would mostly do it for big areas since the tough part is kneading the fondant. where did u learn most about the airbrush? thanks.

  • Thank you! Yup, I've been busy but I'm taking a long break right now! I might do one just for fun with my little nephew in the next few days! :) My Dad has taught me a lot about airbrushing and techniques and such. He's an artist so it sure has come in handy! ;)

  • Golly, I can't keep up with all your videos!! Very elegant and I love the tiara and the silver decorations! Well done (esp with the tall tiers), great job!!

  • Thanks Sarah! :)

  • Purple is my favorite color!! This is gorgeous..i love that the tiers are so tall!

  • Thank you so much! I'm so happy you liked it! :)

  • Pretty purple! Love the silver with it:)

Do you have a double action airbrush? Does it have a tiny cup on top or a bottle underneath? How many coats do you usually spray on?

    Thanks:)

    BOP

  • HI BOP! I have both airbrushes! A double action and the kind with the bottle underneath. I've been using the one with the bottle underneath for airbrushing the entire cake a solid color. I have yet to use my double action for details and stuff but you CAN use it to completely cover a cake. I've just been a little nervous to use it since I'm afraid of spilling out of the tiny cup on top. :) Happy you liked the cake! :)

  • I was so silly, I looked for one with a lid for the tiny cup, settled for one without! I guess they don't make one:) I'll figure someithing out to cover it with!

I have one of each also, mine are Paache.

I've just been trying to decide if I want to use these for painting or cake decorating because I want to do both! I don't make many cakes. I am going to order the kake colors so I guess I'll use these for cakes and order two more:) I just have to do BOTH! lol

  • Im gonna get an airbrush soon. I've been doing research on them. I wanna make sure I invest in something that im gonna be happy with and worth it. What kind of airbrush do you have? Im sooo looking forward to getting one. Yay!

  • Oh my Laura, I have no idea why my comment was gone. I dont remember deleting it. But anyway, I have to admit that this is my FAVORITE CAKE of yours! really simply yet it looks like its going to cost thousands.

  • Hi Rylan! I don't know what happened to your comment either! I actually found it again just a little while ago... It actually got marked as "spam" and I have NO IDEA how that happened???? Go figure huh? Any hoo, Thanks again for the wonderful comment! I'm so glad you liked it! :)

  • Im jealous now I want an airbrush too. This cake is sooo pretty. I love it. I don't know how you find the time with your job. Don't over work yourself. I love the designs you put on the side. I bet she loved the cake. Good job!

  • LOL! Your comment made me crack up! You're too funny! Ok, so now you GOTTA buy yourself an airbrush! I keep going on and on about it because for me it's now a MUST! So much fun! So freakin' awesome to use! And SO EASY!!! I really don't know how I find the time either. It's ALL God! He give me the strength and the time! :)

  • Hi Rylan! I tried to comment back on your comment but for some reason when I got here, it was gone!? Don't know what happened? Any way, thanks for the encouragement and the compliement! I appreciate it! Glad you liked the cake! :)

  • Very nice Laura! Thanks for the photos at the end!

  • Thank you! You're welcome for the photos! I always love seeing the work in progress so I've been adding pics! Glad you enjoyed them! :)

  • Laura this cake is simply stunning. You've done such a great job. I love those little bead decoration thingies (yeah I dont know what to call them either). can you tell me - are they flat to the surface of the cake or did you put both sides together to make it round and 3D (if that makes sense?). The tiara is sooo pretty. Seeing as you said 'feel free to copy', I may just try it. My birthday is coming up, I'm still tossing up ideas. Can't wait to see more from you!

    Danielle x

  • Hi Danielle! Thank you so much! The little decoration thingies are flat in the back so they stick perfectly level to the cake. The mold is so awesome that it makes the thingy look AS IF it's 3D! Happy you liked the tiara! If you make the tiara I would LOVE to see it! :)

  • I LOVE this cake....your tiara is awesome! And I think you were right in not adding the pearl borders. I love how it is simple yet elegant..Great job! I aspire to be as good as you!

  • You are so sweet! Thank you so very much! I'm happy you agree with me about the pearl borders. It makes me feel better about my decision not to add them. I've been doubting myself all day! :) You'll be BETTER than me! You'll see! :)

  • Wow the Tiara looks great..I guess everyone was very busy this weekend...that is great!!

  • Thank you Mari! Glad you liked it! :)

  • That cake is soooo beautiful!!!

  • Ooooooh! Thank you! :)

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE it. the crown is superb!!!! airbrushing is really addicting now isn't it? :) and like Rylan said, the sides are perfect!!!! can't wait to see what you will come up with next !

  • Yes it is addicting girl! I don't have a cake to make in the next week or so, so now I'm probably gonna make one just for fun just so I can use my airbrush! :) I'm glad you liked it amiga! :)

  • WOW! I really feel like I totally need an airbrush machine now! This cake is OMGOSHINGLY BEAUTIFUL! I give you all thumbs up on laying the fondant for such a tall cake. Thats really really tall for two tiers. I can't image how perfect you got it. The bottom tier is really really sharp! I still need to practive on that. Oh and the bead looking things are dazzling! Love it! Great job on this cake!

  • You have to get one Rylan! I'm telling you dude! Once you use an airbrush, you be able to figure out how you ever did without it! It's so awesome! Thank you for the kind words and the encouragement! I'm so happy your liked the cake! ;)

  • Laura, earlier I couldn't find my first comment. Now its back. Youtube is acting a little weird lately. But yea.
