@choopdewoot The craftsmanship is equal to any other modern bike now. A lot of the parts are from other sources. Front brake from Brembo, carbs from Kiehin, alternator from Denso, ignition from Ducati, etc. I have an '05 Gear Up, and I can say, the engine is excellent, it's the gearbox that could use some updating. It's a 4 speed, with straight cut gears.
@ExUSSailor do you still have to tinker with it alot? i heard that the older 650 models you needed to work on alot. i would like to know if the newer 750s are reliable to make a cross country trip without much work.
@choopdewoot Absolutely not. In the 5 years that I've had mine, it's proven very reliable. And that is despite being stored outdoors a lot, and used very roughly off road several times a year.
@choopdewoot I'd take mine on one. I would just steer clear of interstates and major highways, as the tall gearing limits top speed. However, going by my experience, I'd have no problem taking one cross country.
Get one, I've had a Gear-up since 05' and I've loved every minute of it. Its quirky, strange, and sometimes annoying to ride because its so unstable, but I still love it. They are built like tanks!
This seemes to be a modern replica. Legendary "Ural" didn't have a front disc brake. However the construction of "Ural" originally belongs to BMW but after II WW Rusians copied it. The same thing with Moskvich 401 that was entirely copied from german Opel Kadett K38.
Here is the deal... you can ride these on the street. It is basically a ww2 copy of a german bmw, with some refinements. 1. very cool 2. any modern 4 wheel atv will kick the shit out of it off road hands down for half the price and be more reliable and affordable to maintain. Of course cool has a price and Urals have that in spades.
A 4 wheeler will not have people surrounding you in a supermarket parking lot wanting to talk or go for a ride .BTW , the new ones are very dependable mechanically , at least mine is.You can't compare 92 year old technology with today .What I like is that it makes me feel like I'm part of living history.
guess you did not understand what I was saying, which was just what you are saying. A very cool ride for a lot of money. take away the cool historical factor and a ural is old school cool but cant compete with todays machines off road that cost half.
I know Lakota I was actually backing you up too, but sometimes something that is written sounds nothing like what was intended to the person on the other side who is reading it .;)Urals F*ing rule ! I think that should be clear to everyone !
It is not half the price actually. One of those cost 15000 euros in TR,while a aeon predator 700 costs 10000.Predator is slower and too clumsy in onroad use,and since its higt center of balance is higher,it is more dangerous than the URAL.Of course,it will kick the shit out of URAL on OFFROAD,but it wont be an odd idea to have both. One is an ATV,other is a motorcycle.
You really can't compare a Ural and an ATV. The closest comparison would be between a Ural and an Enduro Sport bike. After all, an ATV can't go on the road-a Ural can, anywhere. Yeah, the ATV might be better off-road, but that's all it does.
Actually, another good comparison would be between a Ural and a Jeep Wrangler-coincidentally, I own both, and love them to pieces.
If I ever somehow end up getting a good deal of money (I am bogged down with payments on my 2008 Toyota Corolla.), one of the first things I will do is get a motorcycle license and one of these motorcycles. I REALLY WANT ONE!
if you're in California you dont need an MC license - it's a 3 wheeled vehicle - so it's considered a car. check with your local department of motor vehicles.
Yes, they really do this! I'm not an expert rider, but I do ride in snow and ice routinely and occasionally offroad. The bikes have been updated since the 30's--bigger engine, electirc starter, heavier charging system, etc.
Yes, I am impress. I know this guy from Cuba, who use to take them apart and put them back together when he was bored. He told me that they are very simple machines. Kind of small on the cc. They should do some modernation, given that they are a BMW desing from the 1930

ural needs to build some better engines. other than that they good to go. they look great. very basic so they are easy to work on.
i honestly dont know anything about the craftsmanship. but they look great.

Just looked at a Ural Ranger this morning. Unfortunately, the drive wheel side car is banned here in Australia.
dojomastertex 2 years ago
Do you really think a cop is going to check this? Or going to give you a fine for this?
cadavernl 2 years ago
Unlikely... but you will wreck anything with two drive wheels and no differential trying to ride/drive on the tarmac.

hdw11111 4 years ago
Since it's very simplistic, Ural bikes are very durable and will not break-down easily.
ILOVESPEED25 3 years ago
Russians never knew how to make small agile stuff... but when it came to big and powerful... they made those very well.
KeyManDan 2 years ago
I've been looking around at these a lot lately. They seem agile enough if you take the sidecare off. It's also a powerful as hell cruiser.
Definitely putting serious thought into getting one.
