I think you're right. And on top of his Berzerker ways, Hemingway probably new some Krazy King Henry Karate or some other close-combat techniques reserved for the upper echelon of English society. Emerson wouldn't stand a chance.
@bloykunker Ernest Hemingway was a World War 1 Veteran. He was wounded while operating an ambulance for life, hence the book 'A Farewell to Arms', his drinking, and eventual suicide may have gave him an edge to go berzerk.
To all the dumbfucks asking if anything this man does is "practical", you would do well to research just who the fuck this man is; this isn't some cheap schmuck hoping to look badass on youtube. This is Ernest R, Emerson, the man Chuck Norris checks his closet for before he goes to bed. A glorified bad ass warrior among the US Military. Just take his 9th warrior commandment: "Never do anything that is useless". He is no hypocrite. Maybe when you build up half the cred he has, you can talk shit.
@SROairsoft Or the guy with the knife knew how to use a knife. Go read Emerson's article on weapons dependency on humanevents. You think you know everything about CQC, but you don't. A knife guy could get way too close to you before you even draw your shit. You think you understand sociopaths? Think again.
@SROairsoft I might've failed to mention the last part of the quote, so my bad on that. It should have read. "If anybody pulls a knife on me, I'll just shoot him!" - Dead man stabbed 17 times... GUN STILL IN HOLSTER.
Oh yeah. I looked at your profile. I guess a 15 year old would know more about combat than a 22 year old Marine, huh? All because you're an Airsoft guru. Let me be perfectly clear. YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU'RE DOING and your lines of thought would get you are a loved one killed. You're not a freakin' Special Operator, so stop kidding yourself. You play with toy guns. In a debate on real fighting, your arguements have no sway because you have no experience, period.
@GuitarGuy057 Look i am not saying i have any fighting experience nor do i know more then you, and airsoft does not cloud my judgement. just because i play airsoft doesn't mean i know anything about combat it just means that i play airsoft and i know things about airsoft. if your within arms reach of a person a gun is in no way affective, but if a guy is running towards you and you have room to pull your gun and shoot, you would. Otherwise, Cops would be running around with knives, not guns.
@SROairsoft Cops CARRY KNIVES, asshat. People just don't pull knives and sprint at you. They wait until they're right next to you. Emerson knows this, he trains CLOSE QUARTERS COMBAT. Not your little fairy-tale world where all criminals have the IQ of a fruit pie.
@GuitarGuy057 have you heard of people doing drugs and going batshit crazy and running after you with knives? It does happen, usually criminals aren't that fuckin smart all the time, all im saying is that a knife is better for closer combat while guns are better for longer distances.
@15yearoldairsoftschmuck Nooooo... guns, which projectile things are good for long range, while knives, which are handheld, are good for close quarters? That must've taken a while to figure out.
Again, you know so much in your vast millenia of experience. Yep, most criminals are mentally inept, which is why most of them get away with it.
Right, sardonic misanthropia aside; everybody who follows Emerson are usually seasoned combat vet's or their ilk, warriors regardless.
@SROairsoft As warriors, we all fucking know which weapon is which, which you so brilliantly pointed out. Imagine, guns being more effective for far away targets, vice knives being effective for close quarters; that in mind, why do you think Mr. Emerson teaches knife fighting? I'll give you a clue, NOT FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE FAR AWAY! He teaches Emerson Combat Systems, a CQC (close quarters combat, if you haven't guessed) course for people who wanna learn how to fight in close quarters environments.
@GuitarGuy057 Fine your right, my opinion is wrong and yours is right because you said it was, I'd rather use a gun or be strait forward with a knife and not use fancy technique but i guess that makes me wrong
@SROairsoft There is no opinion in my arguement, just fact. YOU are the kid basing things on an inexperienced opinion. So instead of taking truth and knowledge out of this like a smart person, just crawl into your hole and pretend to be a spook. Often times you don't have a chance to draw a gun before a knife is pulled on you and your best bet is pulling your own knife and ending his world. Instead, rely on the gun you couldn't draw while he stabs you repeatedly and takes everything you have.
@GuitarGuy057 That in mind, your comment is gay and unfounded as, in this environment, the dude is in what we'll call "knife range", vice "gun range".
I have to agree with lockgeek 2011. I'm no martial arts master or authority on edged weapons, but there is no practical combative use for the flipping; its cool, intimidating and a good way to show off skill and control, but its also a golden opportunity for an opponent to knock the knife out of the hand, or worse, try and pry it out of your grip and breaking the finger in the ring. This "double cut" you claim is only a martial arts fantasy meant to display an impressive form.
@lockgeek2011 uh dude read your history lessons on the damn karambit instead of making foolish comments, IT'S DESIGNED TO BE FLIPPED ! the flipping motion is critical in fighting with a karambit and ables you to do 2 cutting strokes in 1 movement while a regular blade would only be able to do 1 slice in 1 movement ...
it also ables you to reach out when doing a half-flip and hit ( or when double edged ) cut the person you reach out to ... really look it up , and maybe you'll learn !!
@TheVollertron Its kind of hard to explain without showing you but there are situations where you flip out the karambit. One example could be if your behind your enemy,(Like your going for a choke), and your index finger is in the hole, you can flip out the karambit so it extends all the way across the neck and slice from one jugular all the way across to the other. Then you flip it back into your palm. The flipping helps practice having control to bring it back to the original postion.
@TheVollertron (part 2) its just good for practicing maintaining control over the weapon. But yea, for people who dont like practicing those techniques for whatever reason, its just for cool factor :-)
@thischarliedontbite old man ? i don't think his age is irrelevant in this case .. do u see how fit he is and how he moves ? he's twice my age and he would without a doubt kick my ass or kill me in a second ... hopefully i'll train enough to be as fit as him at that age !!!
Why is it so difficult to purchase one of Emerson's karambits in Europe? They dont seem to stock them at many dealers, and are usually sold out. Also how come we cant get his DVD's anywhere? He needs a better business manager!
Watching this video the feeling i get ,is that he could eviscerate a torso in very little time if the blade is sharp enough. An ugly weapon for ugly violent times.
ok ok.... i understand all the bobbing and weaving right. but what's with the spinning of the karambit? is that supposed to "scare" them? i'm not making fun, it's an honest question. thank you.
@edwood777 it's a part of karambit use and it increases the reach a bit, although in my personal opinion it's not an effective technique and mainly serves to be visually impressive/intimidating like manipulating a butterfly knife. generally any contact with the opponent will stop the blade because the spinning knife won't have enough momentum and will likely get caught on flesh, bone, or clothing.
I find the easiest and most effective way to use a karambit is simply applying boxing techniques.
@0321231321321 Some scratches on your arm, not more... I tried it :P Only if you lose hold of it while swinging towards your face, that could leave you with more than some scratches haha
he's also showing his coordination with the blade by switching quickly from icepick grip to a more conventional grip,or what prisoners call the "hit" grip.
he's using figure 8's patterns forward and reverse, changing his level and using horizontal and diagonal slashing. It aint no mystery what he's doing. Knife fighting aint that complicated the blade is cutting aftr all. The real test is do you have the emotional and psychological control to deploy the weapon in a real time situation. You MUST get close with the knife and once you display it, its to the DEATH either YOURS or the opponents. Few are ready for this.
