  • I was over there at that time ,then back to Beale to clean up after another.

  • I have pics of the cleanup crew from 1984,that was quite an experience!

  • This makes my heart sink :( I love that plane!!!

  • Thats a Beale U2

  • @fnlrun Well 5RS is a tenant unit... Part of Beale... That would make sense, wouldn't it?

  • @Atlink yes sir it would!

  • I had only heard it was a main turbine seperation but never heard anything more about it. Your right, the tail section just fell off the plane as it was climbing out. I could not believe what I was watching. But when it came apart, it did so in a hurry.

I was relieved to see the pilot get out. The U-2 / TR-1 is a beautiful aircraft, but not when it crashing. Osan was a nice tour of duty of me. Was with the 51st CRS.

  • Watched a simular like plane go down in 1984. Think it had a turbine failure resulting in a seperation of the tail cone from the fuselage. A bunch of debris was falling everywhere..... Pilot did eject safely.

  • @hathganus If you are refering to the U-2 mishap, that was not an engine problem, but a tail pipe issue and it blew the tail section off. Two happened in 1984 roughly 6 weeks apart from each other with the same exact problem.

  • ahh man i cant watch this.... :'S
