Personally living in SW Christchurch I haven't found any trace of those problems. In my experience the NZ education system has been excellent through primary, intermediate and high school. We'll see how University goes but all good so far :o).

not sure it's the greatest place to raise kids either. the overwhelming majority of people prefer to be average, i.e. they tear down anyone who excels or wants to excel. Most people who excel (including nz born kiwis) immigrate elsewhere because they cannot stand being put down so much. There is enormous pressure to conform and be average. I'm not sure if you want this value system ingrained in any child. it should be the opposite, we should encourage excellence.

if you want to build a career and are not white then you probably want to immigrate elsewhere. kiwis are too polite to say anything to your face but you will feel it.

was looking up the least corrupt countries and NZ topped the list. Since doing some research and looking up as much as we can, we may be ready to make the final leap. We are considering leaving the US due to gov. corruption, poor economy, corporate greed, poor education, and unsafe cities. Can anyone tell me how the job market is in NZ? Are foreigners welcome? Are jobs in the IT field plentiful?

I love the UK although I would like to live somewhere similiar to my native South Africa and am considering NZ. Thinking of doing my parents did and coming over on a working Visa and hopefully never leaving. Don't think this is how it can be done these days but hopefully it will turn out for the best.
