  • I love music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This may sound creepy but I'm a horn player so....yeah. The muscle tone around his mouth is freaking amazing. It looks like he could lift weights with his lips! O.O I'm doing this solo for a contest and man, do I wish my corners were that strong.

  • VERY GOOD STEVE M. DONATO INGLESE :)

  • I think this is one of my favorite pieces for Fhorn. I'm playing this song for solo/ensemble, and this video helped me get a better feel for this piece. I just got the low a flat solid :D just in time for solo/ ensemble!

  • I must compliment you on your didactic project of performing a wide range of horn literature. In another video, you mentioned moving from an 8d to a much more expensive custom horn, and how much better you thought it was.Candidly, you sound completely competent on both horns, with no apparent deficiencies manifested in your use of the Conn.In LISTENING,I hear no advantage gained by your greater investment.Your playing has many admirable qualities, irrespective of the instrument; I prefer the Conn.

  • @SiegfriedHorner The Conn 8D is great for close up recording. But it doesn't carry very well in a large hall. The Holton Merker on which I now play has a nice close up sound, but it also projects very well in a large concert hall. I have been really happy with it's sound in recording sessions and concerts.

  • @ohsteacher Of course, that's the usual, not always invalid, rationale. But past sections in great American orchestras (e.g.) have employed 8ds (or their equivalent) with notable success. That still obtains in Cleveland and other high quality American orchestras.Similarly, several UK "bands" of great distinction have also used large-bore horns to great success. But one can't dispute personal experience and tone-concept.I will also agree that "smaller" horns are friendlier to the player's efforts.

  • Wow that is fantastic!

  • Second Counter Strike.

  • Where can we get the piano accompaniment for this solo? I'd really like to play it...but I don't have the piano part.

  • @1994WOW you can get it at free - scores. com

  • this is one of the reasons I wanted to learn this instrument.

  • This is a beautiful piece. My granddaughter is playing it but doesn't have a recorded piano accompaniment. You say you will send an MP3 recording upon request, but you don't give your email address. Could you please send the recording to me at: sheri012@umn.edu. I'll forward it to her. Many thanks.

  • WOW YOU'RE SO GOOD

  • I don't understand why everyone has been saying that the Horn is a difficult instrument. I played it in elementary school, and ..... being the tiniest girl in class made traveling with it difficult, but i found that actually playing it and finding the notes was rather easy. You have pretty much total control over the sound with this instrument- it's nearly direct body-to-sound creation and elegant in its simplicity! You just have to remember what each note feels like.

  • this was absolutley beautiful.*

  • I'm a classical guitar player and I know how hard is to play the horn. Your performance is amazing ang people like MrKmpm obviously dosn't know what is talking about..

  • Hahaha at the end, you can tell he wanted to say "there you have it, suckas"

  • Wow this is amazing, im using this piece as an audition piece for my school's pit orchestra.

  • Wow, gorgeous.

  • WOW! i love this! im a horn player nd i was wondering whats the best horn mouthpiece u would recommend?

  • @mrsexybadass69 You should get yourself to a music shop, most of them will let you sample a few mouthpieces. Everyones embouchure is different so it's best to try some until you find one you like. And the best advice i was given was not to be tempted to buy an expensive mouthpiece! It's really not necessary. GEWA are a great resonably priced german brand. but Denis wick & Paxman are also good choices. I play a GEWA 12.

  • what a beautiful sound.. i's such a hard thing to try and pick an instrument or two out of all them but I guess you just need to go with your gut instinct. I fell in love with the saxophone and the piano :)

  • Nicely done. I thought you played it very well.

  • ok ill try to understand

  • ok thank you

  • what do you suggest i do if i play the french horn and i'm in beginning band in school?

  • @wweguy678 I was a French Horn player for a good number of years. work on your partials and make sure you know where each of them are and can play them comfortably. Slur exercises help a lot in developing muscle memory around partials. master partials within a small range of notes first before attempting to go for higher notes.

as you practice your partials, your ability to play the higher range of notes should come naturally anyways.

  • @wweguy678 Practice everyday and you're on your own on the path of gods

  • @wweguy678 best instrument ever

  • @wweguy678 To really master the french horn, play at least 3 hours of Counter Strike every day. That's how I did it.

  • @sovietspyguy Remember that i am in beginning band so i do not know what Counter Strike is.

  • @wweguy678 Practice

  • @wweguy678 i would play "The Hunt" it was one i did when i was begining theres only one on youtube of person playing it look up the hunt solo it has like 20 some veiws well anyways check it out was a awsome solo when i did a few years back

  • i love the french horn's clear crisp sound something about it just........

  • Beautiful sound. Could you post some videos on horn resources like cuivré, stopped sounds, and so on? Thanks.

  • Beautiful! i wish i had the sheet music so i could play that!

  • So last year I played rondo and romanza for my horn solo as a freshman. I made it to state. I was thinking about playin this one as a sophomore this year. Any tips?

  • hi there! I would like to request a record of the schindler's list by John Williams and cinema paradiso by Ennio Morricone in french horn. I also want it to learn. I can't find music sheet of those songs. I am a beginner of playing single french horn in f. please make a video for me :) and the others :) thank you very much!

  • Any advice slurring from the low Eb to the high Eb?

  • @demenka think of a diving board - play the first note with a lot of air and use it to get up to the high one. it works well with any octave slur like that.

  • This is the song that convined me to play French horn in Highschool band.

    Never regretted it.

  • this sounds so beautiful :)

  • Damn I suck at French Horn

  • Thank you, you have reignited my will to practice. I started about a year ago and was contemplating that I had chosen the wrong instrument, but I am sure I chose the right one now. That was breathtaking. I will practice every day without fail from now on so someday I can play this well. A simple sentiment, but a sincere one.

  • I'm going to try learning the french horn. i'm in high school and this looks like an amazing instrument for the band (:

  • Hey i just started playing the horn. I was wondering if you could give me advice on what to do when it starts making weird gurgling sounds. if you could get back to me that would be great.

  • @erinturnbull13 -----empty the spit out of your horn. That should be done regularly. Have your band director show you how it's done, then do it frequently. Good luck. The world needs more great horn players.

  • @tswinburn1 ok thanks for the advice i'll do that. and thanks again.

  • @erinturnbull13 empty your spit valve?

  • Beautiful!! Thank you! :)

  • i joined the band in junior high and was introduced to the french horn. my teacher seemed almost as unfamiliar with the instrument as i was, and because of that i got little guided practice or assistance. when i moved up to high school i quit band because i would be the only french horn player in band, and would gain no more knowledge than before. but seeing this video makes me realize that my instrument had potential to sound amazing and i regret walking away and leaving it behind.

  • Wow! Yu are amazing! I wish I could sound as clear and crisp as you do...but practice makes perfect! :)

  • Superb :) I never hit that extremely low note at the end :(

  • That was stunning. I'm a beginner in 8th grade band. I'm doing trombone but I'm thinking of switching to French horn

  • I just started horn about a year ago, I'm in my second year of high school. I'm in our highest band on it & the only girl but I want to sound like that, that was so beautiful.

  • I've been a musician all my life, but I've never played a brass instrument. I'm going into 11th grade now and am taking up the French Horn in our School's Concert Band, so thanks for showing me how it's done!

  • im going into 6th grade im gunna play the french horn that was beutiful im never gonna get that good but thnx for showing me what it sounds like

  • wow man im in 9th grade and i play horn.... how do yall adults make it sound so majestical when playing... I just sound like.. the french horn

  • Thank you for posting this beautiful performance. I am in high school and am trying o practice an hour each day, but sometimes need a little motivaion-so i go on youtube- and sure enough I am inspired. Now off to practice!!!!

  • This is so beautiful I am so glad that u are playing this I have had this tune stuck in m head for the past year and I could not find the name of the piece I was so happy when I stumbled upon it. I was trying to master this piece at the end of my senior year. WOW

  • wow 12 people you need to get a life. this is amazing music.

  • sounds like ave maria

  • My name is Caitie Shaffer and I'm doing the French horn bc I'm going in to 4th grade and my music teacher is mrs. Vanarsdale at Seneca valley CVE

  • He was my junior high band director! He was freakin' sweet! Mr. Park is a very talented musician. I was lucky to have him for a director.

  • @Belatius5 ----You were unbelievably lucky. I had a high school band director for a year who left us for Julliard School of Music. We missed him like sin & weren't near as good without him. However, none of us begrudged him his move.

  • Can I have the sheet music for my brother. He is playing the french horn.

  • @Fooballfreak12 It is available for purchase from a wide variety of music publishing web sites. However, since it is public domain, it can be found on imslp.org, at the petrucci music library. just search for Nocturno Op. 7.

  • Your recording is PERFECT.

  • @heino320 Yeah man I know, it seems like every other brass player has it out for us.

  • This is an excellent performance. I'm Drum Major of my HS Band so I'm not gonna be playing as much as I have in the past so I've been looking for a new solo to learn. I would play this for Mississippi Lion's Band tryouts if they hadn't gone to specific required pieces for all applicants.

  • @MrKmpm Do you realize that I am playing with a midi accompaniment? If I was using a live accompanists, I could do anything I wanted. But then I wouldn't have mp3 accompaniments to send to horn players who request them.

  • @ohsteacher of course i realized it... but i didn t mean the tempi... more the cresc. dand decresc. (dont know how you call that in english maybe dynamics)

  • @ohsteacher that was awesome xD keep up the gd work

  • @ohsteacher

I really like how you have the mp3 accompaniment to send to players who need it. It really helps me prepare for competitions. Thanks again.

  • @ohsteacher speaking of mp3 accompaniments, do you have just the piano part recorded so I could play along to it. I am planing on playing this as a solo but I do not know a piano player who can play this well enough.

  • This is beautiful!

  • Beautiful piece. And a very nice job on your part. Excellent dynamics. Perfect timing with cut-offs and pickups with accomp. Keep up the fine work.

  • Meus Parabéns professor assisto seus videos e aprendo muito com sua musica e performace até mais...

  • this is really amazing. i play the french horn now to and im learning. your great

  • so beautiful

  • Awesome, loved it!!!

  • Can you send me the sheet music for this?

  • I'm playing French horn in my band not. It's my third year. And you have to be one of the best French Hornist I've ever heard. Simply AMAZING.

  • This is very nice. However I'mm not sure why you were worried about camera angles. I'm not sure how many people actually watched it, but its great to listen to.

  • Nice job! Listening to this helped me learn it in the tough spots. Where can I find just the piano accompaniment?

  • I'm playing this for my 8th grade solo and ensemble. Your vibrato is very beautiful and it goes well with this piece :) This is very well done too!

  • @IDigMuzik same here.

  • Beautifully played :] I just performed this piece not too long ago. Its a beautiful piece to play.

  • -_- a romantic slow song that DOESN'T change tempos? really? you think that is a good idea?

  • you should record gliere's horn concerto

  • I played this for my 8th grade solo and ensemble. SO HARD!!! i got a one not a one plus :( but its a really hard piece and i couldve gotten a one plus for sure on an easier piece.

  • Why do you keep changing tempos?

  • @iSNEEZES - It's really boring and unmusical to play a romantic piece like this all at the same tempo. Also, some tempo changes are indicated in the music.

  • @ohsteacher Oh okay, thanks for replying back. Do you have any general advice for this piece? I'm in high school and am playing it for a solo/ensemble festival.

  • @ohsteacher man you rock. that instrument is not easy to play

  • @iSNEEZES that just deserves a facepalm.

  • @invaderpopz what does?

  • @iSNEEZES That is how romantic pieces are played; lots of rubato.

  • @justa16thnote There's no rubato written anywhere in the music, though. :/ There's some indicated time changes, but he changes speed almost from measure to measure.

  • @iSNEEZES It's more of an implied rubato. One doesn't need to be bound to the sheet music, especially when performing a solo.

Much like a fermata. Why hold it for exactly the given beat + half, when one can hold it for as long as they want? It's for the effect.

  • @iSNEEZES its called rubato, it makes the music piece more expressive and in the romantic era, performers have more freedom and they make it their own music by interpreting the music to their own liking and it becomes a very beautiful piece

  • is there any way i can get a mp3 copy that i can put on a cd of you playing the solo to help me practice this piece? I'm using it for contest. thank you so much!!(:

    meoberrylicious@yahoo.com

  • I'm playing this piece for a solo festival and i sometimes have trouble reaching the higher notes... any tips?

  • do you have sheet music?

  • Omg this is so much better than I could ever play! And you play a double horn..... I only play Bb horn

  • Does anyone have any advice on improving an airy tone?

  • @Phanatic24601 How long have you been playing?

Because it's most likely just going to go away with practice.

  • @Phanatic24601 there are several ways to fix this. the main cause is a lack of a solid air collum. this is when your airways are constricted or you don't use enough abdominal pressure. try dropping your jaw and blowing through the horn instead of to the mouthpiece. sit up straight or even better stand .

  • Im hoping i can get the music for this to do this piece for contest... i really hope i do.. i love this.. and great job by the way. you are my inspiration on this:D

  • Hi, i'm preparing this solo for a festival

and i wanted to ask you what fingering you use for the last concert Db. do you use T23, or 23? i can never get that note to get in tune.....

  • I have got a big big thing I need to ask I was playing the trombone but I didn't like it so I get it switch and I get to pick so which one : A flute Clarinet or the French Horn but on more thing It's half way through the year now which one?

  • One of your greatest videos, I can't believe I haven't played this piece before. >buys music<

  • You achieve such a beautiful tone.

  • The ending was especially nice. So sweet.

  • i love this solo! i will be playing it in a couple of months!!!!

  • any tips for that last note? I'm gonna be playing this in a few months and I can play it well all except for that I can't seem to hit that final low note

  • What is the very last note you play and what fingering are you using for it???!

  • i got a question....where can i find an original copy of this music?

  • Ahhh... this is great... FORGET HOR... oh wait, i am already playing the horn... haha...

  • @rapidturret xD I actually thought about commenting that same thought... until I scrolled down... how many years have you been playing?

  • A friend of mine learned this solo, and it was just so awesome ! I'm not really in classical music, but I've to admit that this is simply beautiful !

  • I loved the sound of the French horn. So I tried to play it. I was thinking if I were to teach kids I would show this maAster of the horn. Cheeks in. Light resting on the lips. Being told does not do it. A beginner needs A good demonstrator. The music was excellent

  • Ive been plating the French Horn for 7 years now and so far this is one of the best solo music for the FH

  • Are there any tips you can give to help me improve my low range.

  • @idkmyname13 All I can say is, relax but still keep the embouchure there and just push in all the air with all your might! And, lower your jaw by a little to let the hole of your embouchure become bigger.

  • im planning to play this for a solo for a festival!!

  • What kind of horn is that?? I swear im the only one in my school brave enough to tackle a instrument like that. You are the best ive heard.

  • lol im glad i picked horn when school began the music program in 5th grade. even though i was the only horn in 3 years D:

  • i love this piece of music..i want to play it so bad but i cant find sheet music for it..anyone know where i can buy it at??

  • I am playing this peice now, can you send me the MP3 of the accompaniment? Thank you. E-mail address: victor972004@yahoo.com.hk

  • @niogjoy The 2nd movement of the Gliere horn concerto is one of my favorites. Romance by Camille Saint-Saen is another

nice one. And Reveries by Glazunov is also good.

  • Wonderful playing - do you know a harpist because it is stunning played with harp. You would be doing us a huge favour if you demonstrated this. My daughter is hoping to find a good horn horn player to team up with and play this but there is nothing worse than romantic music badly played on the horn (apart from a dodgy violin I guess). Clearly this needs great control and you have it.

  • im going to start learning how to play the french horn next week and you are really inspiring. my mom said that this piece was so beautiful it made her want to cry.

  • Ahhh!!! I played this my 9th grade year solo. I was so nervous. You play real well, your air support is MUCH better than mine. Sometime I miss playing.

  • makes proud to be a horn player :]

    i adore french horn.

  • This was gorgeous. I am a junior in high school and I am planning on playing this for my Governor School audition. Thanks so much for posting; it has really helped with practice and style decisions.

  • WOW to those 9 ppl who didnt like this you are dumbassses and do not fully comprehend the beautiful sounds and art of french horn so get up off his nuts RT!

  • Lovely playing. My main criticism is that I believe the piece is Opus No. 7 and not No. 17. I apologise if my memory fails me. Sorry to be a pedant.

  • I can't tell you how inspiring this is to me. I'm going to play this solo at solo and ensemble contest; this makes me wanna play it even more!

  • It was very helpful recording for me, when I worked on it for school year exams... Thank you! :)

  • it somewhat sounds like ava maria at points such at :11 to 18 and 1:18 to 1:25

  • i play french horn and this is truly inspiring i hope that one day i can play this

  • Do you play on a Reynolds?

  • Thank you for making these videos!

  • absolutely stunning.

  • This is my absolute favorite solo, and you played it wonderfully.

  • Such a beautiful sound i love it

  • this is the first time i ever heard the french horn, and its beautiful... is it hard?

  • Beautiful performance! Thumbs up!

  • @alex40218 I will be making some videos of practice tips and suggestions sometime this summer.

  • FANTASTIC, but maybe not the vib.....

I thought most horn pros still use 2+3, for pitchings sake?

  • my sincerest BRAVO

  • do you ever play e Flat horns for fun? also known as the Alto horn if im not mistaken.

  • The sound of this piece is really beautiful and you play it so nicely.

  • been playing horn for 4 years now... i really hope to get here someday. absolutely beautiful.

  • This makes me extremely sad to quit playing french horn =[

  • I love this piece. he plays so wonderfully. I also joined the facebook page "I LOVE MY FRENCH HORN" because I was looking for some information about mouthpieces.

  • Bravo Mr. Parks. Where can I get this? I can't seem to find it anywhere :(

  • I think your an amazing player and very inspiring :)

I would so love to play this piece in my next concert but i have problems with confidence and people say i am an exceptionally good player put i just cant make myself perform. Could you help me with this?? Thanks.

  • Would there be any way I could get you to e-mail me an mp3 of you playing this song? I would really appreciate it!

  • This is Amazing. I'm also a Horn player and i'm trying out for the top band. I think im going to use this music.

  • GREAT JOB!

  • Iv'e been playing horn for four years (after a three decade hiatus). Every time I watch one of your amazing videos, I'm reminded of how much time I'm wasting! Instead of spending soooo many hours learning band & orchestra "parts," I should be learning to play some of this lovely solo literature. It's absolutely gorgeous and very inspiring. I'll never know if I'm a decent horn player if I don't study & perform the solo literature.

  • this makes me wanna learn horn soooooo bad toooo

  • I love this song!

  • I'm playing this for my French Horn Final for my sophmore semester. Thank you for making it easier to find a piece. You are really helping horn players around the world a lot by doing this. I appreciate it.
