however i still enjoy syu and his music (like it better than sonata arctica's). i just didn't think his rock pentatonic lines and innovative-to-a-degree tapping saved him this time lol

Normally people would say "Well, Japan is a big fan of Sonata Arctica", yea I don't care, this isn't SA it's Young Guitar so they're in control. Either way, the main audience here is North America.

Actually, Jani WAS in Sonata Arctica. Now he plays in Altaria I think...

Actually that's old stuff also. I hadn't looked better, he played in Altaria till until 2005 I think.

For NOW however, he is in the 2009 formed Cain's Offering (first album out this summer if I recall right) along with a few other well known artists. Go check out their website, just google the name and you'll find it.

In terms of sound i'm leaning to jani jani ftw =) but for you guys talking about finger technique i see plenty sweeping from jani in the fast parts but syu is doing string skipping at that speed omg... i guess syu ftw too =) rock on
