Also, every body part you add to your creature takes up DNA points. You receive DNA points by basically surviving, such as eating, mating, and winning fights between different species. The more DNA points you procure, the more stronger, swifter, and robust body parts and manipulations you can apply to your creature.
you start as a single celled organism. You eat smaller organisms and avoid larger ones. Each you reproduce as a single celled organism, you get to change your creature a little bit each generation, and eventually, you somehow become a multi celled organism, and walk on land and evolve on land from generation to generation. You then somehow become intelligent as you start to build civilizations with primitive weapons and huts, and you upgrade to modern urbanized areas
Nine years ago Discovery Channel made a game based on evolution where the player must made it's creature survive in a world that is constantly changing. That is evolution; you start in the begining with a idea how you're world will look in a few million years, but you and up with something completely differend.
Anyway, Spore and the whole idea of making it looks great. ;)
It's a good game, but Spore is in my opinion a god-game, not evolution. Because i thought evolution is accommodating during circumstances made by the enveronment to be able for the creature to survive.
And in Spore you playing like a god making a world in 7 day's. I am wondering if there are any doomsenario's in the game, that will inflict you're way of playing and will force you to evolve so you're creature can continue surviving.
It's not a god-game. The reason it seems like creation in 7 days is because if you were playing a completely life-like simulation of evolution, it would take you millions of years to actually evolve your character. That's not fun.
Yes, i know what you mean, but it could be fun if you have an option to after the creating of a animal you could see in the future what will happen with it. If it survived, good job. But if it extinct you could get a message why they didn't survive and you can go back in time to make some changes.
Beside that, most of the time on Earh there was only microscopic life. You could wonder why that must take such a long time. Probably because tho's little creatures didn't have a reason to evolve in the world they lived in. Until the time they created atmosphere and 90%of them extinct so the rest of them must evolve to survive.
It could be interesting if you after you create you're creature you could scip a few million to see what happend. Than it's still realistic but not boring.
Yeah but that's boring. Instead, each time you change your creature, you're basically skipping a few million years. Instead of getting a message on why you wouldn't survive, you change whatever didn't work for you after you die.
And so you become smarter and more advance in the game. And so did you're creature. Actually i expact this. :)
But when you die, don't you have to start all over again? Or did i have to see it like that lonely creature you playing with stand in fact for a whole pack? and if he die's the other members of his pack can pick-up the scepter and start where he ends.
In that case this is a good option to ignore the true dificulty's of what's a evolution-game is.
And Crxss, you're absolutely right man. If they make a game based on true evolution rules, and specially with the time it takes (even when you can scip milleons of years), the whole thing would be absolutely boring for the most of us. But in my opinion, they make this game as good as it can be without making it boring but interesting for a a lot of different people (for as long as i can say such a thing without even playing it. :P) Haha!
also, to add on to what he said, Will Wright said if you can combine the right parts you can make it glide long distances, like flying, but you cant roost in trees and such...you still are technically a ground creature...=/

This game works as follows:
you start as a single celled organism. You eat smaller organisms and avoid larger ones. Each you reproduce as a single celled organism, you get to change your creature a little bit each generation, and eventually, you somehow become a multi celled organism, and walk on land and evolve on land from generation to generation. When you die I think you go back to the last time you hatched from an egg, not sure. And I don't know what happens in civ/space modes.

Well, i think we have to wait the last 135 day's before Spore comes out.
Or wait, i live in Europe... that would be 133 day's. :P Lol
