The characters that the black folks portray aren't stereotypes;

they do have appear to have a common experience of having "seen-it-all, been 'round the block" mentality that AT FIRST gives them a dim perspective on what's happening between the husband and wife.

But, the black ladies who are the wife's friends show dynamics in the story as they encounter the changes in the husband [in one scene midway through the movie] and they work discretely to help the wife steer clear of a disaster.
