  • Oh wow, a literal interpretation of a song. This is awful.

  • THE INTERROBANG!?

  • cool music and video...

  • 16 people must go to the music academy.

  • great song.....lame video

  • i'm definitely a fan of mission of burma, and i enjoyed this video very much. not the most spectacular 'fan' video, but i thought it was good. thanks for this.

  • I'm sure the creators of this travesty probably got a B+ in their Community College Film class but it's such an awful P.O.S. What the lame people who made this video did to this seminal punk song filled with poetry and angst is the equivalent of adding a laugh track to "No Country For Old Men," "The Road," or "Platoon."

If life continues on earth for another couple billion years, this will still be the worst video every made.

  • awful song.

  • @blindmansarrow you're nuts.

  • get off youtube you old farts who give a shit whats on the screen. if you came here for the song, listen to the song

  • One final note. Good job to the makers of this video. I don't like it, but at least someone got off their ass and did something. So there it is.

  • I'm not gonna make a video, either. Not soon, anyway. (I do like Mission of Burma, of course.) Another thing, why can't someone not like something, or hate it, even? What's the big deal? The fact that I don't like this video doesn't mean I don't like the person who made it. It shouldn't be such a big deal. I'm sure some people will read this and not like it. I may even get angry replies. Call me a name, whatever, I can live with that. I mean, come on.

  • I don't like this video. And I don't care that it's punk.

  • the video is NOTHING like I've envisioned for the past (almost) 30 years. hahaha

  • was this video made yesterday? no. oh that's right rock music hasn't evolved any past this point in 29 years. fuck you hipsters

  • This is one of my all-time favorite songs and I saw them at 930 Club in DC around 20 years ago. However, this is probably the worst video I've seen posted on YOUTUBE. The video is so lame and doesn't evoke the spirit of the song in any way.

Of course, if you participated in the video, or you're family or friends, you'll say it's great but I can't imagine ever seeing a worse video on YOUTUBE.

  • @hitachicm721f "worst video" you've seen posted on youtube? get off youtube, old woman/man.

  • ......I LIKED the video. Fucking pessimists.

  • One of those goofy, non sequitur-filled, producer-driven 80s videos, but it's a great song.

  • awesome song, shitty video.

  • Got to agree. These were some clever and inventive people. You'd think they could have given a little of that to this project. Great tune, though.

  • What a nice white bread yuppie couple...piss off!

  • @beautydaddy How cute, a pigeon hole. Excuse me while I call a cement truck.

  • Amazing job on the video guys, goes along perfectly with the song.

Fuck I love this song. This is what emotional music truly is.

  • whatever man, you guys looked like you had fun making this video. fuck whatever anyone else thinks.

  • they do sound kinda like the wipers. never noticed before. i'm seeing them in 2 days :D

  • The score is probably for the song.

  • LOL!!!!!

  • @hitachicm721f

    Truth

  • they kinda sound like the wipers sweet

  • nice job!

  • dude u did a pretty good job on the video

  • yeah.....my favorite song.

  • this video blows. great song.

  • Yay! Another poorly made fan video, most likely for an HS/College film course, that i'm sure the director will claim has something to do with their "interpreation" of the lyrics.

  • this sounds like the wipers

  • Damn, post your house. Everything is white.

  • I'M NOT JUDGING YOU, I'M JUDGING ME

  • im loving the mental breakdown

  • Ahahaha these comments

  • This is one of my all-time favorite songs and what these no-talent morons do is sacrilege. I'm sure they're doing great things in cable public access.

I remember the first time I heard this song when I was about 19 and I remember the feeling it gave me - it still gives me chills.

  • Wow, way to visualise the lyrics literally.

  • whats wrong about lovesongs

  • Nothing, but this isn't one.

  • this is awful. they've obviously never seen the band - or listened to the song.

  • cant wait 2 see MoB and the neighborhoods on the 24th

  • No doubt, Michael Azzerad's Our Band Could Be Your Life is required reading to learn about some of the most essential bands from the 80's alternative scene. the title comes from a Minutemen song and the book chronicles other monumental groups like Husker Du, Sonic Youth, Minor Threat, Fugazi and MOB. God, what incredible music they made back then! they remain some of my favorites today. particularly affecting, the DIY attitude of Black Flag, who paved the way for so many others to follow...

  • amen

thank god mob have reformed better than ever :o).

fugazi have an insanely good excellant back catalog

and sonic youth are still in rude health (their new 2009 album sounds ace so far

saying that i never really liked minor threat :P

lets not forget j robbins (Jawbox, Burning airlines, channels).

  • @manwithnoname123

    great book

  • @manwithnoname123 I love that book, I got it for 30p.It's unbelievable how many of the bands in that book are overlooked these days. They made incredibly profound music.

  • @manwithnoname123 Reading that book now. I check out each band as I read about them. Just done with the chapter on Mission of Burma, so here I am! Glad someone else recommends this great book too (:

  • just to second that comment about "our band could be your life", I'm only 20 and discovered this "genre" if you can call it that, so I bought that book and I now own every album by every band in the book, and Sonic Youth are my fave band ever!!!

  • too true too true! I was SO glad that they have been able to come back, release cds, play gigs again,etc-a career cut short, then reborn 19 years later-MOB RULES!!

  • okay, yeah, the video is really annoying.. but at least they had the good taste to play Mission of Burma, right? God, talk about criminally overlooked - this band rules! Vs. was certainly one of my fave recordings from the '80's...

  • The people in this vid should be fed face first into a wood chipper-to associate your lame ass bullshit with genious not of your making is just so wrong it infuriates!

  • this video sucks ass, i think you missed the point there guy this is not a love song

  • @hderms who gives a flying fuck? thx for posting the song

  • I always loved this song. It reminds me of slam dancing at The Chanel in Boston many, many years ago.

  • I lost a few teeth slamming at the Channel -- you don't happen to have one, do you?

  • I still have all of my teeth because i watched out for 'em. you rock dude !!!!

  • you guys should check out the book called "This band change your life"( don't quite remember the title" it's by Michael Azzerad, worth the reading, it also got Sonic Youth and Dinasour Jr in it

  • It is called "our band could be your life", and it is required reading for any one who cares anything about independent music. It has chapters on Fugazi, Dead Kennedy's, Big Black, Mission of Burma, Minutemen, Minor Threat, and others.

  • this song is great but the video.... meh.

  • Yeah... this is not a love song. Way to make classic punk all Wes Anderson-like.

  • yeah agreed, this song always made me think of fascism

  • stupid video but i remember this song during my indie rock phase i would always listen to this song before going out and being a punk to the world haha.

  • Okay, show of hands. Who's read Our Band Could Be Your Life? I just stated the Mission of Burma chapter, and all I had was a copy of Signals, Calls... (don't remember the rest of the title) Good music, but a GREAT book for people like me that were a baby or nonexistant when these bands were out.

  • Great book, very interesting bios of some great bands. That book was part of the reason I got into Mission of Burma. (Btw the Dinosaur Jr and Sonic Youth chapters are great too)

  • amazing book

  • THat book is awesome. I gotta go find my copy and read this chapter. ANd the minutemen chapter is pretty awesome.

  • Yeah I was one the Year Punk Broke, so the book was real helpful. The Dino Jr. and Butthole Surfers chapters are hysterical...from a purely 3rd person perspective of course.

  • there's an old video, too. called "1991 - the year punk broke" has some real cool stuff in it. dino jr, sonic, babes in toyland, nirvana, etc. but...you prob already knew that.

  • That's what I was referencing. ;)

  • I am reading that right now. Actually, I'm looking up Mission of Burma right now so I know what they sound like before I read the chapter.

  • A homemade video for Academy Fight Song. CORNBALL!!

How can anyone, let alone some film school reject, try to make a "video" for this song. That's just dumb.

Not to mention that it sucks!! To associate this cheesy thing with a great song like Academy Fight Song is just wrong.

  • What is MoB doing to FREE BURMA from dictatorship? Anybody know?

  • Hair brain.

The name Mission Of Burma, has nothing to do with the actual nation of Burma. It was randomly chosen, with absolutely no intention what so ever.

With people like you involved, I'm sure "Advance Burma" will have zero impact on anything.

  • although they have done Burma benefit concerts in the past

  • Love this fing song.

  • Bought a MoB compilation album on see-through vinyl. Best money I've ever spent!!!

  • Who is the girl in the video? She has to have the greatest smile in the history of smiles.

  • I hate it when they ask me jerky questions and don't mean what they say..

  • Cojonudos!

  • Catch Mission of Burma in Brooklyn tonght, January 19th in Brooklyn. They're playing the Music Hall in Williamsburg. I know I'll be there!

  • I first heard this song in 1980 as a 19-year-old and it was like walking on the moon and inspired me to listen to lots of great indie music - video is rather lame but who cares.

  • I typed in Burma and found your channel. I'm a female Burmese-American singer/songwriter. Great video. Thanks for sharing the nice tunes!

  • just perfect, good work.

  • Too frickn damn cute. Very clever, I love it!

  • Very nice interpretation. I love that the guy in the video is such a technical perfectionist and gets annoyed when the girl doesn't play the guitar etc. correctly. This is one of my favorite songs of all time. Thanks for taking the time to make such a nice video!

  • Great film man, I really like what you did there. You put the perfect images to the perfect song, bravo. Of course it helps when the song is one like this. This song just sends me to some far off place in my head and I get lost in it like waves. Ask me Jerky Questions! love that line.

  • cool video to a great song! Nice work.

  • aye the gurl here is very pretty

  • That was pretty cool. I love that song.

I'd like to see your take on Max Ernst! :D

  • Quirky video, dude.

  • They had nothing to do with it, but they are aware of it & like it. Check them out on MySpace.

Interesting that someone interpreted this as a Love Song....

  • Classic song, and a nice video. I assume that the band had nothing to do with it....

  • What a great clip! Who is that hot couple?

  • the chick in this clip is sooooooooooo hot
