There is no 'Squad Drill Sergeant'. There is a Platoon Sergeant, that handles the day-to-day affairs of the Platoon, but there is no Squad Drill Sergeant.

And the Staff Sergeant doesn't do desk work, unless he is in a position that does desk work. Infact, in the Infantry, the lowest rank at a desk is usually a Brigadier General.
