@tropicalpimp With that logic, why bother trying to better ourselves then right? Why not just go back to walking about nude and raping when it seems fit?
Part of being human is denying the animal side. It's when you return to your primitive roots and cease your attempts at joining higher culture and civilization are you then deemed a savage by me.
@trueVincent555 It could be worse. I was just viewing a video of an Edvard Grieg piece and the first comment mentioned something about "killing niggers with guns". It's bizarre where some of these conversations end up going. . .
I agree with you all that bullfighting is savage, but as a vegan, I hope that all of you omnivores consider that basic meat eating is completely -unnecessary- and far more savage.
The danger is when we have deeply rooted prejudices, which we often continue without question, without ever taking the time to examine. -Einstein
@calico992 Funny you quoted that, as you don't to question your prejudices of animal lives having some kind of intrinsic value. Being a vegan doesn't make you a better person, on the contrary, sometimes you feel so proud of it that you disregard humans.
@calico992 I agree with your point, and you are an intelligent person. Bull-fighting is a sad and rigged game of slaughtering an animal slowly for mass entertainment, it has no redeeming value. However eating meat has been a very extensive tradition of humans, since the dawn of man. I agree, nowadays, we have more sensible ways of getting our protein, but it's either that we love the taste of meat, it's built in our genes, or people are so out of touch with where there meat comes from.
Humans also had an extensive, tradition of slavery and injustice towards women. Should we base our values on old systems based on tradition, or should we not try to improve them, and advance as culture? Your a fan of Glenn Gould, so I know your intelligent. You tell me?
@calico992 This is true, I don't really have an answer. Great debate topic though. I appreciate you not just yelling at me because I have a differing view, as so many on YouTube would.
Savage is to be uncivilized. There is nothing less civilized than bullfights. I will write this so you northamericans who think that you can judge the rite without living it understand more. It is okay if you don´t like it. The bulls is a profoundly simbolic hispanic act, closely related to the need of sacrifice, which you get from silly action movies, far less profound. Nothing in a culture is flawed, for it acts within its boundaires; and it is only flawed when you look at it from outside.
-Every- culture has categorical flaws, whether relative to other cultures, or fatally flawed within. Many cultures don't like specific races. Other cultures are still so ignorant as to see females as inferior. Just goes on and on...
I am disappointed. I thought this video was going to be a funny joke in which Gould would be expressing his dislike of audiences, walk out on stage and, through some trick of computer animation, perhaps kick the mic stand, or throw something across the stage. That would have been funny.
@whatshendrix Ok. I eat meat, but i know the fact that it makes me a savage. Why? Because we eat animals that have been stuffed into a slaughterhouse. Do you know slaughterhouses? should learn bout them cause they're one of the most pretty abusive thangs i ever seen, that's pure abuse to nature. I do eat meat but i know that this way of consuming meat is so abusive it'll lead to veeeery bad things happening to us humans.
The essential survival would be a totally different thing
Essential survival without killing? What are you smoking? You've got problems if you can't tell the difference between killing animals for food and killing them for fun. Spare me your emotional reactions to something completely normal and provide reasonable argumentation, will ya?!
To be a savage is essentially to be UNCIVILIZED. There's nothing uncivilized in providing food.
@TheCrippledSilence Estoy de acuerdo. Pero el tipo este que "habla" expresa muy bien el punto de vista de cierto tipo de trogloditas flemáticos, que no tienen otro adjetivo que salvajes.
@TheCrippledSilence Naw, you're just some PETA prude. It's part of their culture. In any event, killing a few bulls in a ring, is certainly no worse than slaughtering for food, countless millions of steers, chicken, fish, etc, each year.
Savages like Latin Americans.... yeah sure! Let's take the "highly refined" examples from "civilizations" from Europe who had nothing less than killed millions of people "in the name of progress and order" didn't they? So who in the end were "the savages"????
@OscarEli76 im 100% sure that what he meant was that the ACT of the bullfight and going to watch it is savage and anyone who like to go and see it was savage because of that, not that all latin-americans are savages, (remember he loved animals and he gave all his money to the protection of animals when he died), the point he was trying to get to is that a musical concert or event is about hearing and feeling it, not watching it. P.S. i'm mexican.
no it is fake. i have just watched the documentary about it. it exist in youtbe. in fact there is no audiences when he comes and sits like that. it is an empty concert hall i know.
Gould is speaking of audiences, so the film shows generic 1960s black and white footage. I don't see how anyone would see the juxtaposed COLOUR footage of Gould from a much later date and think this is from the same event. I don't think this is supposed to be fake; it's just illustrative. I guess . .
I love Glenn Gould. He was one of the greatest pianist of XX Century. He was a great artist!!! ....but absolutely not a great antropologist o sociologist!!! ... so, my suggestion is; forget about those comments and concentrate on his beautiful music!!
@vicenteaboites This (for the first sentence only). Glenn Gould is hilarious; everyone should listen to as many of his comments as possible, reflect on them, and have a good laugh where possible.

As far as the narrator is concerned people who view the death of an animal for entertainment regardless of the history or ceremony are savages. I am sure there are plenty of people in latin america that cant stand the idea of watching an animal die for fun. There is nothing wrong with the commentary it is the hate in people who wish to turn everything into a fight.... Please if you cant say something nice dont say anything at all.
