  • Fantastic job on this video. Thanks for your time and tips.

  • wat paints r those

  • Fantastic video, I'm thinking of starting a traitor guard army so I'll need rust galore.

  • could i use ready-to-use airbrush paint to hand paint with?

  • This is going straight to my favorites.

I LOVE seeing these techniques on 40K models.

I ordered my first Iwata airbrush a couple of days ago and I can't wait to get started.

Please do more clips like this.

  • Not sure how I missed these, great stuff.

  • @ScaleModelMedic How long would you leave the gloss and matt varnish for to dry?

  • I'd love to see part3 and you finishing the model! Great vids tho...

  • very good video , i always wanted to know how to paint that camo on tanks

    thanks :D

  • Great techniques

  • i love your chipping technique you've done well

  • hello, awesome video I am happy to subscribe, your vids will help me take my painting to the next level... awesome demonstration of chipping effects, now maybe I can start adding that to my tanks

  • brillant good paint job love the rust effects

  • Hi

    I'm running at about 15psi.

  • @jigabachi73 man... that is low, I usually fire out just over 20, but I'm surprised that you're getting drying on the needle at that pressure - however, I've just started testing out some badger brushes and they've got exposed needles - I can actually see the paint building up on them really fast. I will have to try and figure something out, in the meantime - try the retarder and see if it helps.

  • @jigabachi73 That could very well be part of your problem. I too found I was getting a fair amount of tip dry with the Vallejo varnishes, and indeed the conventional wisdom is to lower pressure (and possibly thin) when this is the problem but I found the the lower I went, the wore it got. At some point I tired a higher pressure, as much as 25psi, and no more top dry! I can do an entire coat without getting any top dry. The formula must be such that if it moves too slow it will "set".

  • @TheSunsAnvil good to see people sharing their experience !

  • Hey

do you airbrush the vallejo varnish because i'm having problems doing the same. When i try the varnish seems to dry very quickly and starts to build up on the exposed tip of the needle. I use Vallejo thinner and experimented with different ratios but i seem to get the same problem, do you think the addition of a drying retarder would help.

  • @jigabachi73

I don't thin or add a retarder so I'm not sure what's causing your problems. What air pressure are you using?

  • Hey bud did you use the airbrush for the treads n mask it up or did you do it by hand?

  • @TheNocturnalStudios

Yeah I just masked it off and sprayed it with a quick coat - it'll get covered with mud anyway

  • great vid, very helpful

  • Hey, what sort of pressure do you use when you're airbrushing?

  • For some washes, I use thinned Acrylic and add a drop of micro sol decal fluid to really kill the surface tension.

  • Your chipping looks great mate. Im gonna have to try that.

  • Excellent tutorial mate.

  • Great vid. Very nice looking tank! I build mainly cars, but did get a tank just to try my hand at it. Thanks for your videos, I enjoyed all i have seen.

  • good video.. I learned something as always ^^ though I think the rusty tracklinks "pops out" too much.. but I guess it will be better when you weather the rest of the tank ( :

  • That was a fantastic tutorial...thanks for sharing your experience and that great model...I really appreciate your effort in posting them up...Are the varnishes pre-mixed for the air brush? I have no experience with the air bursh, but have a very basic one to try and see how much trouble I can get into :)...these kind of vids inspire folks to try something differnet and unfamiliar...please keep posting...thanks...Jim.

  • What airbrush do you use?

  • @clarkey1991bba IWATA HP-C+

  • @ScaleModelMedic Thanks man, im looking to invest in one :)

  • great weathering job! i my opinion it is perfect :)

  • Yet another exquisite, inspiring video! Profound thanks for sharing your talent in this way.

For the Vallejo varnishes, do you thin at all? What PSI do you for them?

  • @TheSunsAnvil

they are from the Model AIR range - they don't need thinning at all, they go straight into the airbrush

  • Superb done!!

Its really nice done and I'm looking forward to see the next one! :D

Thanks for making it and giving the tips! :)

    Greetings,

    Antal

  • ive found a wonderful one for rust is a chip of GW dark flesh, the a bolgun metal inlay. looks supper of yellows, greens and reds.

  • do you thin the paint when you make paint-chips? i tried it out on some containers but it didn't turn out so good. but i used tamiya paint, which i really think sucks for brushing...

  • @svinehunden I use Vallejo Air for brushing. It's like pre-thinned versions of the other paints. I even use it for figures.

I try and stay away from Tamiyas now, they are temperemental !! Some times they work well, others they don't.

  • just awesome jon... really looking forward to see the finished result (: gotta try that

    running effect

what is that word at 1:23?

  • @svinehunden hey K man, it's CAPILLARY ACTION. Basically it is that effect when you put a wash on and it kind of creeps along. It's also the same effect that pulls glue along part joins.

  • @ScaleModelMedic i like that word

    i'm a encyclopedia kinda guy ;)

  • Great stuff - please do more! :)

  • Worth the wait.

  • high mate awesome vid i've just started adding chips to my models i think gives the models a more realistic look.! could you put a link to the other people who u mentioned about the chip work thanks very much.

  • @utrinque3NDparatus Mig Jimenez and Mike Rinaldi aren't youtubers mate, they are regulars in the model magazines.

Mig Jimenez is the guy who started MIG productions !

which part of the country are you from?

  • @tordenskrald

hahaha, I am from the Black Country, near Dudley. My accent is much stronger than in the voice-overs, I put on my "phone voice" as best I can to try and keep it understandable for all the guys overseas.
