People laugh at Ringo’s drumming – but he actually toned it down on purpose.
Early on in the Beatle’s, George Martin realised that the main strength of the group was Lennon/McCartney’s vocals and the lyrics.
They generally kept everything else simple, to highlight this. Ringo said in an interview he purposefully stopped doing fills, so you could hear the lyrics better.
I dunno.. I think George wasn't into it here but he didn't dread it and not cuz of the other 2. Ringo seemed to be just goin along with Paul and he flowed very well. Just plain easily. Paul always was known as the peacemaker of the band. The one who tried his hardest to keep the band together. I guess he was just hyped/excited to have the remaining Beatles together again. I can't blame him. I'd be exactly like paul too in his shoes. I live for music and harmony and good vibes, that's all.
@MrCeej9999 Are you serious? LOL!!! All of the Beatles played guitar except Ringo. When they needed a bass Paul volunteered. He didn't know half the cords George did. It was obvious Harrison should play the most difficult arrangements, which he did. Paul stated George was the better guitar player.. He called George cocky because he knew George was much better than he, or Lennon. Harrison ranks with the alltime greats of guitar. Paul doesn't begin to come close...
oh man it really sucks that they they ill all never be able to reunite...true icons!!!!! i saw both paul and ringo in concert...of course they they were awesome...!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What the hell is with Ringo? I swear every video I see him in, whether it's from the 80s or the late ots, he looks exactly the same!!! That man just refuses to age.
@swlnyc1 That's the same impression I got when I first watched this back in '95. In fact, from what I read, this project was originally going to be entitled "Get Back" but George refused to participate unless it was given another name (though I don't remember the source and never read it anywhere else).
Wow, after all those years amazing how Paul & George could harmonize & play together so effortlessly! There really was a special musical connection between all of the Fab 4!
No idea how or where you found this but thanks for sharing! As a former musician it always felt great when were productive & worked our way through & finished a song. But then nothing in the world's as fun as just jamming & not caring where you go but enjoying the melodic journey. WAY too cool to see them just jamming together! I heard George say something about listening to Bing Crosby, looking at what they're playing here explains why the Beatles could produce such an eclectic catalog! Peace!
Wow, where in the world did this come from? Not so great, but interesting that the three remaining Beatles actually are here jamming together. Sort of reinforces the early British press reports when they were called a Country and Western band. Ringo even gets into a country style "train beat" at the end on Shine on, Blue Moon. I'm stunned to see this, ha. But, never can get enough of these cool cats, no doubt.
@MyOwnEnjoyment I eventually figured it out, watching other related videos, but sincere thanks for the confirmation. Too sad to realize George was in his last years, so I am glad they did the Anthology series and got the three of them back together a bit.
'I Me Mine ' was without John. It could have worked and been good even without John. One cant ignore the huge talent that was left with Paul and George and even Ringo as songwriters and singers. But it would have still been a shadow of the Lennon Beatles.
When Paul and Geioge sing together in harmony on blue moon, that's the unique thing the Beatles had - the blend of the 3 voices in different combinations, that was the flukey thing that gave them that unbelievable sound!
I think George was out of it he didn't seem to be interested anymore, but Paul said he was like a little brother to him back then. They would always share a room together when they were touring. Maybe that big brotherly fight between the four of them didn't resolve fully.... Without John the glue nothing was the same.
for the first couple minutes, seemed apparent that this band needed JL, but then Blue Moon of KY showed a lil' of the magic between these 3 left on the planet, at the time. Nice.

paul ,george, and ringo unplugged! I love it. elvis had a hit with blue moon of kentuckey in great britian back in the day. that was part of the beatles influences growing up.
Wow. This is just... amazing. But it seems to me that Paul seems to be having the most fun, as Ringo just looks bored and George isn't exactly animated either. Ah well. I love the way that one of them only has to mention a song and then they just out of the blue start playing it, like when thay were talking about that advert. It just goes to show how connected they were. Long live the Beatles!

Even thought there is someone missing here , I'm so glad they reuinited for a short while. It shows that they put past grudges behind them, and still remained friends. Kind of makes you think that a full reunion could have been likely.
@ffairlane57 I agree wholeheartedly. At some point they would've had one more go-round together had John not been killed. However...to recapture their previous magic would have been a VERY tall order. Impossible, in fact. Part of the Beatles legend, though, is that they never got back together (all four). But, hell, can you imagine the pandemonium if they were all still here and decided to reunite to do a Super Bowl halftime show? Hmmm...I wonder if anybody would watch?
@Wildave007 , Ringho is so underrated and under appreciated. I have the Beatles box set (2009 remastered) , his drumming, though not Gene Krupa or Stewart Copeland, was pretty amazing.

All of you who say john is the ace or Paul is the ace. Your all wrong. ALL FOUR IF THEM WERE ACES. They weren't just a regular band. They all had extraordinary talent.
@JoRdAnCaStRo7 I Completely agree. Though being a guitar player I lean more towards George, but I think each one suites different people for different reasons.
@JoRdAnCaStRo7 : I quite agree. All four were good to very good musicians, but what made them "The Beatles" was their GROUP-NESS, if I may coin the word.
@JoRdAnCaStRo7 Amen You got it Right brother. The ALL had soo much talent, have i mean Paul and Ringo are still with us Thank God , with their tremendous wit I loved them all.....still do. wht Music they gave us.
It's from the Beatles Anthology film time period- they were working on the anthology film so they were together anyway and had a couple of jam sessions for fun. This is the song Harrison played to get into the Beatles-at the time it showed his guitar skill since they needed a lead guitarist as nether Lennon or McCartney was quite that good at guitar at the time.
Macca is very talented man, much underated by most english people as they dont appreciate success. When he is dead they will apprecaite him more than they know, and they will all say how wonderful he was, as they did with Lennon when he got murdered, prior to his death the average person in England thought Lennon had gone mad, left the Beatles and run off with some mad asian women. Lennon himself wrote "everybody loves you when your six foot underground" how right he was!!!
@ChiroQuacker It's not the worst drumming I've heard, but it is the worst drumming I've heard from Ringo. I guess all three of them were stoned. In my opinion they are still the best band ever. Happy new year :-)
@paxfromindy So are you saying it wouldn't matter if the Beatles never had happened? Ok, to you they aren't as good as Queen, Floyd or Zep. But isn't it great that all four bands co-existed and we can enjoy all their great music. What are you so cross about?...you have your fav bands...nobody's got rid of their recordings. Have a good New Year
Without George, John and Paul would have sounded... well, like they did with Stu Sutcliffe. Look it up. Without Ringo, they might have sounded... what do you know, the way they did with Pete Best. Look that up, too. Tell us if you still think Ringo or George somehow, being 50% of the equation by default, were replaceable. Sorry for long post - that was my first time posting on this web site and I hate character counters. Shit.
Ringo's style of drumming brought out the detail and expressionism in the other three's music. You, perhaps, would have liked Tommy Lee or some other very busy, loud drummer, but any real fan or critic of the Beatles would tell you that Ringo's drums are possibly some of the most important pieces of audio anywhere in their bibliography. The other three? Forget it - it's a waste of time and energy to have to try and explain after forty years just how good they were together.
They depended on each other like brothers. John brought in Paul, who brought in George. They were all schoolmates. When it came time to find a permanent drummer, they shed every opportunity available to them as the already-locally popular Beatles to pursue who they considered to be the best drummer in the city, possibly in Britain; Ringo Starr. They asked him to leave his band to be with them... They sought him out as the missing piece to their puzzle, to put it in terms you can appreciate.
@ArgentineExpel4Fraud - Your views on what roles each musician played during their formation and tenure as recording artists are grossly inaccurate. To call either George or Ringo replaceable in any context is not only a direct contradiction to what you later claim, that "only the right pieces make up the right puzzle," but a direct contradiction to what most listeners, fans, or otherwise are able to deduce from listening or watching the band; that this band was close.
I am so bummed we lost John and George ... And as bad as I miss George , Joihn's death was even worse because we lost him to one of the worst low lives in History.. At least George died of natural causes .
@ArgentineExpel4Fraud I have to disagree with you regarding George and Ringo. George was exceptionally talented at guitar, and his song-writing skills were also top-notch, as evidenced in All Things Must Pass and other solo releases, as well as songs like Something, Don't Bother Me, Here Comes The Sun, Taxman, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Savoy Truffle, The Inner Light, Piggies, If I Needed Someone, It's All Too Much, etc. Starr is also a highly regarded drummer, and OG.
Paul is a great musician and can play anything ON anything. Enough said.

im sorry but you all got it wrong. the ACE CARD is john Lennon. he's not there. and being dead ( at that time ) makes him the ACE CARD.
7theflyingdutchman 1 month ago

@ChiroQuacker It's Ringo.... can't give him talent. He stands on his own. Got to be the president of the lucky drummer club.

Forget it - it's a waste of time and energy to have to try and explain after forty years just how good they were together.
davemccombs 1 month ago

This is just depressing. This IS the Beatle reunion!
The elephant in the room is the dreadful absence
of John Lennon. What more do you need to show
that John WAS the Beatles! Of the 3 Beatles
remaining only Paul holds the mantle of what was
the heart and soul of this great band. Ringo was
wise and humble enough to realize he was lucky
to come for the ride. George was not so humble in
spite of his "spiritual" posturing. Except for 2 or 3
songs George was, like Ringo, always replaceable!
