I don't think there's really a company that's "THE" best, because Sharp, Fujitsu, Panasonic & NEC are all the most popular phone manufacturers in Japan, they have all made many high-quality & popular phones.
But Sharp has made the most phones in terms of quantity & the number of different models they have. Of course that doesn't necessarily mean they are "THE" best, but I don't think there really is "THE" best.

but in the Global market, then Sony Ericsson is of course much more prominent than the other 4...because Sony Ericsson is the only company among the 5 that still markets their phones globally. But the other 4 companies only makes phones for the Asian market.
