Now, they've added new roads, widened the old ones, and limited the number of outdoor marketplaces.

No surprise there, for most part I found the food in china... less than adequate.. Still, I ate one of my best meals ever in China to, in a dumpling restaurant in Beijing.
I've only been to Shanghai once, I came straight from an incredibly smoggy Beijing, and there had just been a storm passing Shanghai I think (this was in the summer 2006). Clear skies, bright sun and rather clean air compared to Beijing. But I suppose that was because of that storm that had cleared the air.

Most immigrants move to western nations seeking a better lifestyle and greater wealth. It's a basic human right both in international law and morally speaking for people to be entitled to go out into the world and make their life better, not always just for themselves, often for their children too (eg. me)
Who are you to deny someone the right to improve their social circumstances? Cut the racism and open your eyes.

There are times when it can be a royal pain in the arse to be around people who tell us to "go back to where we came from". Here's news for you ... most of the time, living in a developed country is pretty sweet (be it America for the majority commenting or Australia, in my case).. it just people like you who make us hate it at times.
